  • The Poplars, Market Rasen
The Poplars offers compassionate, individualised residential and dementia care. Located close to the centre of the small, vibrant market town of Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, the home’s new, specialist dementia 11 bedroom household, with additional living, dining and communal areas, opened in April 2017.

The residents' well-being and comfort is the prime focus. This means that responding to their individual needs is top priority, so the home is very proud to have received an 'outstanding' rating in this category in the recent CQC (Care Quality Commission) inspection (November 2016).

Care charity and provider The Orders of St John Care Trust are respected in the care sector for a flexible range of care provision, making the most of voluntary sector contributions in order to help vulnerable adults achieve a more dignified lifestyle.

Carers respect clients from all backgrounds, support an active and fulfilling lifestyle, and a nutritious diet, while maintaining strong local links.

I have been very impressed by this care home. There are so many bad reports about homes but I have nothing but praise for this establishment. Mum's room is small but sufficient to manoeuvre and clean and tidy. It is well furnished and modern. My main praise is for the staff team - from top to toe -
I hesitate to say 'bottom' because all team members work very well together to create a lovely caring, supportive and safe environment for residents. Mealtimes are sociable and staff take care to make sure everyone's needs are catered for. Overall a not unpleasant experience for Mum.

Staff- excellent (professional, always kind)
Food- excellent
Gardens- excellent
Room- sufficient. Not having dementia but having lung problems, 24hr heating and locked windows was a big problem. Shame no en-suite bathroom!
Bathroom facilities- very clean.

Mum has been at The Poplars since March and has benefited greatly with the attention and care she gets, and has gone up 2 sizes which isn't a bad thing! Just before Christmas she developed a chest infection and then pneumonia and had to stay in hospital for 4 days. The staff were all very supportive
during this time as were the rest of her new 'family' and it was lovely to see how pleased everyone was to see her when she came home on Christmas Eve. obviously she wasn't well enough to go to our usual family gathering but my brother and I went in the morning to the Christmas spirit well and truly flowing! There was a lovely family atmosphere and everyone was offered a tipple and hot mince-pie. Santa handed out presents and all the staff including some not on duty joined in the festivities. I was able to have lunch with Mum and friends before leaving in the afternoon.
I would also like to say how impressed I was with the time and effort that went into decorating the lounges and other areas, and all the social events that went on in the run up to both Christmas and New Year! It really did feel like home!

When I last saw my mother 6 months ago she was in a very confused and depressed mental state following a stroke. This visit, from where I live, I found her cheerful, alert and much more sociable than I have seen her in decades. I credit the amazingly kind, sensitive staff of Poplars for this turnaround
and particularly the Manager, who is clearly a superior leader and sets a tone of humor, compassion and encouragement for residents to be their best, within the confines of their physical and mental abilities. My mother feels safe, cared for as a person and able to contribute to the welfare of others not as capable as her. Thank you to the Manager and all the staff.

The staff at The Poplars have looked after my father for the past 1yr 10months, he has been taken care with 1st class service, caring and respect despite being in the later stages of Alzheimer's. During the last week of my father's life the family had to make a decision to move him or leave him where
he lived at The Poplars. We chose to keep him in The Poplars. All the staff kept us informed about his health, they also cared for the family and treated him with respect during his time. I am very grateful I was informed of his deterioration and this enabled our family to be with dad as he passed away. They also cared for our needs.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.619)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.619) out of 10 for The Poplars is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.837 for The Poplars is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.837

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.782 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Poplars is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.882

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
