We found out that my mum, who has vascular dementia, had been wandering outside her home. We had to make an urgent decision to find respite care with a view to a permanent residential home to ensure her safety. After speaking to several homes in the area, I rang Sandpiper. From the very first phone
call, I felt reassured and supported at a truly dreadful time. The lady I spoke to arranged for me to visit that day and for respite for mum to commence the following day. The home is beautiful and immaculately clean with an extensive well-tended garden that wraps around the property. Mum is enjoying all the choices of food. All the staff I’ve spoken to have been friendly, helpful, caring and knowledgeable. I’ve been able to phone for updates at any time. Our visits have been protective of Covid, but they have succeeded in making them as ‘normal’ as possible for Mum under the current guidelines. After 10-days of respite, we are very happy to have arranged permanent residency.

I find the staff very helpful, always there to listen if I have anything/answers about mums care and how she is; I haven’t found it easy having Mum in a home.
I have peace of mind that Mum is safe; the home and Mum are always clean; the room is cosy and spotless.
The staff have been extremely caring
through the covid times, bless my mum, is not always an easy lady, but I would highly recommend the home.

I can't begin to express how much the manager and her team have gone above and beyond in the last couple of months.
My mum was put on end of life care at the beginning of December last year; the care my mum received was absolutely fantastic; the care and love shown to Mum were outstanding. Sadly
Mum passed away in early January, and the support that I and my family received was a great comfort. We still continue to receive support from the manager and the senior team at Sandpiper. Keep up the great work you do every day. I would highly recommend this home.

Sandpiper is the nearest thing to a second home. The staff are all carers no matter of their position. The banter was good, which creates much fun for those that take part. Even on cold days, there's a warmth that radiates through the building giving Sandpiper a homely comfort and friendly feeling.

Sandpiper is an amazing home. My mum has been here for 14 months and the care has been excellent. My mum is at the end of her life and the care the staff give is amazing. They are very caring and have an excellent manager and deputy. The senior team are fantastic as well, all carers across both shifts
have been excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, doesn't matter what time of day or night. Lovely gardens and rooms. They have great parties for them.

When you enter Sandpiper Care Home you immediately feel at home. The carers are always attentive and understanding. There is an abundance of empathy and compassion for both residents and their visitors. If you want to discuss anything there is always a listening ear and time made available to put your
mind at rest or find a solution to a problem. Mum has been living at Sandpiper for just over 18 months and although she is mostly bed-bound now, the staff have always tried to include her in their many events and activities. Mum has swallowing difficulties due to a major stroke, so her diet is rather restricted - as it has to be of a delicate structure, but the cooks always seem to present a good variety of food for her. A great advantage for Mum has been the large patio doors in her room opening on to the well-kept garden. If there is one criticism - it is that the rooms are quite small, but that is something the staff can do nothing about. I have no doubts about recommending Sandpiper.

My aunt was a resident in Sandpiper for over two years, during which time, her needs changed. The staff were caring and adapted at all times to her changing situation. They were professional and caring, efficient but always gentle with time to talk, laugh and help. I cannot speak highly enough of Sandpiper,
and the relief that my aunt was in such good hands. The home is clean and fresh and cared for. The food is excellent, especially in my aunt's case, the cooked breakfast every day. Relatives were made welcome and kept involved.

This was my fourth visit to Sandpiper and as usual, I was made very welcome on arrival. I found nothing was too much trouble either morning, noon or night. The food is superb with plenty of choices for everyone. The cleanliness is great and everybody does their best to make you feel at home and cared

The management and staff of this home are very conscientious and caring. My mother is very content at this home and they always ensure she takes part in the activities even though her speech is not good.
They are very encouraging at all times and take the time to discuss mothers needs on a regular
basis. I have no hesitation in recommending this residential home.

Steven

Steven Clements

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Steven's journey in care began in 2017, when he started as a Care Assistant, gradually advancing to Senior Care Assistant, Team Leader, Residential Care Manager, and now Home Manager. His extensive experience and dedication make him the perfect fit for our community.


Outside of work, Steven is an animal lover with two dogs, Gizzy and Bella, who are 13 and 14 years old and have been with him since they were pups. He also has a bearded dragon named Godzilla, who has a fun and quirky personality.


In his free time, Steven enjoys listening to music, watching Netflix, and spending time with family and friends on various outings. He has two brothers, and one sister, and often makes the effort to visit his mum, who lives quite a distance away.


Steven is highly qualified, holding NVQ levels 2, 3, and 4, and is currently pursuing his NVQ level 5 in Leadership and Management. His goal for Sandpiper is to make it the home of choice in the community, the top choice for employment, and a place where relatives feel peace of mind and comfort.

Job Title: Maintenance

Steve Leverington, our new handyman has spent 15 years as a maintenance engineer within a group of private hospitals, hospices and care homes based in the South of England. Steve has a further 15 years as their hands-on maintenance manager. His work has covered all aspects of maintenance tasks from a lowly toilet to maintaining hospital theatres.


He decided to take retirement and move with his partner to Lincolnshire. His partner, Fiona fired him as his ability to make coffee and lunch on time was severely lacking.


He went to work for Butlins as maintenance for two years but found he was missing the care industry and decided to join us here at Sandpiper in Alford.


Steve enjoys fishing and gardening as well as socialising with friends and a good BBQ.
