A warm and friendly atmosphere welcomes you to Whitefriars, where professionally trained staff are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week to offer you the support you need, when you need it.

Residents can relax and enjoy a cup of tea with friends and family in one of the sitting rooms or join in one of the regular social activities.

There is a varied programme of activities, entertainment and events, arranged by Activities coordinators around each person's requests, hobbies and interests.

The kitchen team, headed by a professional cook, is proud to offer a varied menu of home-cooked meals to suit individual dietary requirements and preferences.

With a focus on flavour, seasonal produce is used whenever possible and the tasty dishes are carefully balanced to get best nutritional value. And of course families and friends are welcome to join them at meal times.

    Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
    physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
    medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
    During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
    and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
    services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
    will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
    services at the time you request them.
    They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
    however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
    services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
    be paid for by yourself.

Received a good update from the senior staff on arrival and it is clear they know my dad well. He is well cared for and the staff all seem prepared to go the extra mile for him. Thank you to all the team.

So pleased to have Dad at Whitefriars. We know he is well cared for, and the staff have taken the time to get to know him. He enjoys the freedom of the garden in the dementia unit and has settled in well. He is accepted as he is - no one tried to fit him into a schedule he doesn't understand. All the
staff, from catering to management, are so kind and helpful.

My mum was a resident in Whitefriars up until July 2022. She was so happy and cared for in her time, like a family member. Very homely and warm feeling, always raised concerns if any. Mum was a resident for around 18 months, with a high level of anxiety. The staff were always very calm and reassuring with her, and found ways to help her. As her health declined, the staff really came into their own. Their knowledge and expertise in caring for her and looking after us, her family was
exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. I'm so grateful mum was looked after by so many kind, caring people and wouldn't hesitate in using their services again.

I visited several care homes looking for the best new home for my dad. After visiting Whitefriars I knew I had found the home that would be where my dad would be comfortable and well cared for. The manager spent a long time with me talking about the home and the philosophy of care. Dad was welcomed
in just a few days ago, and while his short term memory loss, along with several other limitations, impacts his independence he has not been left on the sidelines. From what I have seen the team there all work to ensure that the residents are noticed and responded to with warmth and care. For the first time in a long time, I feel okay when I leave my dad, knowing he will be safe, warm and comfortable.

All the staff are helpful, kind, friendly and professional. My husband is happy in his own world and safe and contented in this loving environment. On visiting my mother who has dementia, she looked absolutely amazing and totally cared for. The activities that she has been doing is amazing and all the staff were so incredible and couldn't tell me enough re what had been happening and how my mum had settled, I left feeling so happy that our decision

My mother has been ar Whitefriars since late March. She had dementia and macular degenerations. Staff have been very good with her, helping her to settle in well. This is a difficult time with Covid restrictions, but this is handled well. Mum always looks neat and tidy; enjoys having her hair done.
For us, as a family, we are very happy with all aspects of her care. The staff have been very supportive.

I found the lady that did my Covid test really friendly and helpful. It was very nice to see my friend, and the room we were put in was nice and private, plus comfortable. I was a bit anxious about going as this was my first time visiting my friend, but thanks to the staff, I soon felt at ease.

Shelly

Shelly Smith

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2018

Shelly joined The Orders of St John Care Trust as Care Services Manager for Apple Trees in 2016 before being appointed Home Manager at Whitefriars in 2018.


Shelly has had a long career in care and spent several years working in Spain before returning to the UK to continue her career. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.


She says that her door is always open and invites families to pop in, say hello and share celebrations or concerns.
