My friend was very well cared for and treated with dignity at all times. We were always made welcome by staff, who remembered who we were (we visited every week). Staff were always friendly and caring. The home was very clean with lots going on for residents.

My Dad has loads of praise for the staff here. He tells me they do look after me here.
His room is always clean. The bed is always made.
Dad is always happy.
When he first came, there were a few things to sort out due to his personality, but the staff have nailed it! Thank you.

Ashfield House has always had a lovely welcoming atmosphere. It is a lovely building and kept clean and tidy. My Nan has lived here for a number of years now and at the age of almost 102 years is now receiving end-of-life care. Sadly I and other families have had cause to complain about the lack of
end-of-life care she is receiving now. There have been insufficient numbers of staff to attend to her meaning very long gaps in personal care. I have spoken to the current manager about these concerns over the phone and over the last couple of days things appear to have improved somewhat. I do plan to have further conversations with her regarding the end-of-life care provision. As an ex-nurse of over 30 years, this is an area in which I have a great deal of experience and it is why I have noticed and identified the shortfalls in care as I and other family members spend time sitting with Nan.
Would I recommend Ashfield House? Yes, I would.

What a wonderful home for my nan, I was apprehensive that she would be very anxious moving from home but she is in great spirits. The Christmas entertainment and atmosphere were lovely and she enjoyed singing along to all of the songs! The staff were very accommodating to the residents and us as guests.
I am very safe in the knowledge that Nan will be well looked after here.

The care from staff has been outstanding. They cater for everything my mother requires. I would recommend to anyone that the care is absolutely brilliant. My mother settled in very quickly and she was happy here. I find I don't worry about a thing with her care, she will miss this home.

Nan came in as an emergency following a fall at home and was unable to care for herself. The manager assessed her with the deputy the same day and facilitated the move into Ashfield House seamlessly. In the three weeks she has been here she has been able to recouperate and has been guided to rehabilitate
herself to be able to go home. She has been treated with dignity and respect throughout and has eaten fabulously! A big thank you to all the wonderful staff at Ashfield, you all do an amazing job.

I have visited my mum at Ashfield House c. monthly over the last couple of years. Even unannounced, my mum is well dressed, well groomed, comfortable, happy, relaxed and confident. Today, for her 104th birthday, the Ashfield team had decorated a room with customised posters, provided tea for her visitors
and worked with us family members to make her day special and perfect. I am so immensely grateful to one member of staff in particular and the Ashfield House team for the care, empathy, patience and support that they evidently give to our mum every day. I have experienced another care home in another area where my dad stayed in the early 2000s - I can safely say that Ashfield House is on another, higher plane, and I sleep soundly knowing that my mum is beautifully cared for every precious day of her life. Thank you to all the Ashfield team from the bottom of my heart.

From Mum’s initial assessment to moving into Ashfield House, the staff were supportive and empathetic to the enormous decision that we were making as a family. The staff have an excellent understanding of the complexities of living with dementia. We were able to arrange Mum’s room before her moving
in, which helped her transition. The staff are treating Mum with dignity and respect and they have been so welcoming to all of her visitors. Nothing is too much trouble. Ashfield House is a real home from home.

Since Mum moved into Ashfield House she has settled in really well. She has been made to feel welcome by all the staff. She is well looked after and cared for and she loves her en-suite room. Visiting is made really easy and we as a family are also made to feel welcome.

Overall this care home more than caters for the needs of residents. Always helping and on hand. The condition is always clean, tidy and to a good standard. Entertainment is provided for the residents on a good and regular standard also.

Fantastic Christmas party enjoyed by all the clients and their families. Great entertainment and food. The staff worked very hard with the organisation, decorations and help and service on the day. They take excellent care of my sister-in-law who has dementia and nothing is too much trouble. The team
also have an excellent manager.

Elizabeth Plummer

Job Title: Service Manager

Joined: 2010

I am the current manager for Ashfield House. I have been working for Shaw healthcare for almost ten years. Within those ten years I have spent the majority of my time at another of Shaw’s homes.


Ashfield House is a fantastic home. Since my time here, it is evident that all of the staff, no matter what their job role – have a positive and person-centred approach to all of our service users! All of the staff, including myself, thrive to keep that smile on our service users faces and for them to enjoy the time they spend here. Ashfield House has a warm and friendly vibe and I am proud to be their current manager. We like to encourage our service users (if they can), to remain as independent as possible and treat Ashfield as their home.


The staff take pride in getting to know our service users and their life histories, to enable them to build up that close, trustworthy relationship. Getting to know and supporting our service users is very important to us however, our aim is to support the relatives too! We are very keen to build up a positive repour with our relatives and friends! We are always here to answer any questions or queries you may have and offer reassurance where needed!

I am one of the Team Leaders here at Ashfield House.


I have been working at Ashfield House for a total of 13 years. My role as a Team Leader is to uphold the Shaw Healthcare’s values, which are wellness, happiness and kindness. I enjoy the responsibility of my role and take pride in ensuring the person-centred care needs are met for each resident.

Job Title: Domestic/Laundry Assistant

My name is Fiona and I have worked at Ashfield House for almost 7 years. I have 2 main roles and they are as a Laundry Assistant and as a Domestic Assistant. I am happy to help out anywhere in the home if needed. At present, I am helping the Support Workers prepare and serve breakfast to all of our residents, either in the dining room or the resident’s room. I enjoy working in the laundry and do my best to make sure all the resident’s clothes are washed and ironed to a high standard. I take pride in ensuring the clothes and linen are being folded correctly and that the linen cupboards are clean and tidy. My other role is as a domestic, again, it’s a job I get great satisfaction from. I enjoy being part of a team whose only wish is to have a spotlessly clean and tidy home for everyone who lives or works here to enjoy. It’s not all hard work though. It’s also my chance to get to know the residents and to have a chat and a laugh with them whilst cleaning their rooms. The residents are always appreciative of anything we do for them and they always thank us. I enjoy working here because of the good friends I have made and how we can all pull together when needed and work as a team.

I have worked at Victoria House for nearly 11 years, it was my first ever job all those years ago.
I enjoy getting to know the residents' life histories in depth, this also helps me adapt the care I give to be person centred.
Ashfield House is a positive friendly place to work and I’ve always felt supported by my colleagues and Management.
In my spare time, I am a Mum to 3 young children, my eldest children have visited Ashfield House since they were 2 weeks old up until Covid.

I love coming to work to see and care for the residents, I enjoy listening to them reminisce on their past and help them to remember things. Hearing their stories helps me get to know the residents better and be able to adapt my caring role to suit their needs. We have lots of activities for the residents and when we have entertainers on we all enjoy getting those that are able, up singing and dancing.


Ashfield is a very caring home, the team are very honest and trustworthy with the residents being our number one priority, just like one big happy family.

I have worked at Ashfield House for 18 months, this was my first caring role, at first it was a little daunting as you don’t really know what to expect but I have really enjoyed my learning process.

I began working for Ashfield House in 2013 as an Activity worker. We have entertainers come into the home on a weekly basis as well as chair keep fit sessions. The residents really enjoy listening to the singing and it is wonderful to see them singing along and those that are able get up dancing with other residents and staff.


We have a reading section and a place to do jigsaws which the residents all enjoy doing. I love my job and it is a pleasure to come to work, seeing the residents happy, it is their home and we try to maintain as much independence as is possible for each individual.


The staff are very caring and we all work very much as a Team to maintain the wellness and happiness of our residents.

I started work at Ashfield House in 2004, as a Support Worker and also cover Senior Support roles.


I really enjoy my job and have seen a lot of changes of how people deal with Dementia and the understanding of this condition. I help mentor other members of staff joining our team, sometimes this is an eye opener as they do not realise the amount of hard work that is involved within the Support role.
