My dad is a transgender woman and has been at Acacia Lodge for a week now. I couldn't be happier with the level of care. Dad is there for end-of-life care and was moved from a hospital to Acacia Lodge to be closer to us. All staff are respectful of my dad and are using the correct pronouns. This shows
the level of care and understanding of my dad's wishes at this stage of her life.
I viewed Acacia Lodge last Monday. A warm, passionate and extremely caring man greeted me. His wealth of knowledge is quite incredible. What really impressed me at our first meeting, was how much detail he knew about Dad without any reference to the case file.
All staff have been very polite, caring and attentive and, have responded promptly to my requests to assist Dad.
Whilst the building is slightly dated and needs some renovating, for me, it is more important that Dad is well cared for and I am satisfied that that is the case here. I'd highly recommend a viewing.

All the staff were very helpful and caring during my cousin's 3 years at Acacia Lodge. As my cousin's health deteriorated he was looked after better than if he had been at home. When he needed one-to-one care and his memory started to fail the care he received was exemplary and always very cheerful.
I was always kept informed of any changes in his health. The home never, ever had that feeling or aroma of old people!

Mum was only in the care home for a short while after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She deteriorated very quickly. The staff at Acacia Lodge showed great compassion towards both Mum and our family. They kept Mum comfortable and allowed us extra visits as she neared the end of her life. We cannot
thank everyone enough for making this difficult time so much easier for Mum and ourselves. As mentioned above, all staff including in the office and catering were excellent. And a special mention to 2 members of staff in particular who were amazing.

Always been welcome. Nan has never had any problems there. With covid, it has been difficult as times but they did their best in the circumstances, either via a window or indoor visit when this became possible. However, always kept informed of Nan's wellbeing.

My husband has been a resident at Acacia Lodge Care Home for nearly 6 years and until last year from the start of a new manager, I had no worries about his care. Unfortunately from July 2020 to June 2021 my concerns were causing me and my family a great deal of distress. Thankfully a new manager, who
was a previous manager is back. Plus several of the staff, who have previously left are now back. So I can feel happy and stress free again that his care, welfare and dignity are again in good hands.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Acacia Lodge Care Home

Thank you for your kind words about the new management and the staff and also for raising your issue with us regarding previous management. It is our utmost importance to have the right management in our homes and we are pleased to hear that you have found the new manager is already making a positive impact and has started to improve the standard of care in the home.

On visiting my sister I found her to be clean and comfortable. The whole home is always spotless and the staff are very obliging at all times. I cannot comment on the food as I have never been there at mealtimes.

This is my first visit to the home. The staff were very helpful and took time to explain the current situation during Covid-19. The home has a certain calm atmosphere. My father seems to be happy here.

The two male members of staff went above and beyond in the care and compassion given to my mum and myself and daughter in her last hours of life. When I thanked them they said they were only doing their job, they would accept no praise. Their work is of such dedication.

My father was a resident at Acacia Lodge for four years, during which time, I was extremely happy with the care he received. The facilities available were perfectly acceptable for the residents needs. Social interaction was encouraged, and many activities provided. All the staff I had the pleasure of
getting to know, treated my father with respect and dignity at all times.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.025)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.025) out of 10 for Acacia Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.900 for Acacia Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 10 Ratings = 4.9

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia Lodge Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.125

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
