Always found staff to be helpful and friendly. Mum is quite happy at the home. During the pandemic, we have been well informed of how Mum is and also what is going on in the home. Also, we have had some lovely photos and notes from her which is a great comfort to see that she is quite happy.

Acacia Lodge is a very friendly and welcoming care home. I am really pleased my mum is so well cared for and cannot recommend it enough. The staff are always cheerful and very attentive to Mum's needs.

Due to the nature of my husband's illness he and his family had experienced a very turbulent and stressful time prior to his arrival at Acacia Lodge so we will always be grateful fo the high standard of care and attention he received. This quickly led to a much calmer and contented outlook from him.
Everyone made us feel welcome and kept us well informed. Sadly, he was not with you for very long but on our final visit my daughter remarked how comforting it had neem that we knew he was happy, content and well cared for especially during lockdown due to COVID.

Staff at Acacia Lodge are extremely polite, caring and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Leading up to my sister's death on 23rd May 2020, she was given the highest care and attention available and she loved all the staff who cared with her until the end.
Staff, even after her passing away,
were very supportive to the family.

My father was bedbound and didn't communicate. He never seemed sad when I visited him. Staff were good if I saw a problem and ask them to do anything they would do it as soon as they could. Sadly he passed away at the end of May and I thank all the staff for what they did for him.

Acacia Lodge is well run, organised and calm. The staff are caring and respectful of Dad's views and needs.
He is well cared for. The room is large and bright although is a little dated. I have seen some staff changes and agency workers, although they seem well supported.
Above all else, Dad's decisions
are followed with the utmost respect.

It's early days but so far, the transition appears to be a smooth one. The team has a good feeling about them. Very relaxed and Acacia Lodge is a more comfortable home. We, the family are very happy and relieved that we've found Acacia Lodge.

My mum had to move to Acacia Lodge from another care home and it's the best thing we could have done. We were concerned about how she would react but the staff have made her feel welcome and cared for and she has settled really well. She has a lovely room and it's always clean and the whole home is
well organised.

My Mum lived at Acacia Lodge for just under two years, until her death in May 2018. Throughout her time there, she was treated with kindness, dignity and respect, often referring to members of staff as her friends, because they always went the extra mile. The room she had was lovely - spacious and
welcoming - as well as clean and well cared for. Knowing that her final moments were spent with people who really cared about her, and who have been supportive to us following her death, means so much.

An improvement overall since the takeover with the new owners. A big bonus was the sight of my brother-in-law sitting in a wheelchair in the community room with other residents (a year+ at Acacia Lodge) for the first time, with promises of lifts out of bed and into the wheelchair and promises of being
taken downstairs to see his uncle. I feel confident the scores will improve higher.

Overall we have found the home a very comfortable place and cannot fault the carers. If I was to say anything negative, it's that the management could make themselves a bit more available and that when things like thickener amount and feeding problems are changed, it is made clear to all carers, old
and new. As a family, we have had to explain on a few occasions that we truly wish there were more carers so that the residents could be checked on a more regular basis.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our home and for the kind comments regarding our staff. We value all feedback as this helps us improve all our services. As the new Manager for Acacia Lodge, I pride myself on being available to Relatives, Residents and staff alike and have an open door policy where anyone can come and talk to me. Our Deputy Manager, who is a very experienced Nurse, is also available to discuss any relatives concerns. To ensure that all staff are aware of our Resident’s individual needs, I have introduced a more consistent communication process that includes a concise structured clinical handover (twice daily) that all staff participate in, daily meetings with all heads of department, daily clinical reviews and weekly clinical meetings. A schedule of monthly relatives meetings is being put in place, where the Deputy Manager and myself will be available to discuss queries or concerns either in a group setting or privately if required. We constantly strive to deliver the kindest of care and will continue to do this in every way we can.

My experience of Acacia Lodge is extremely wonderful. They can't do enough for my dad and also my mum when she visits. The nurses and carers are wonderful. Please don't change anything, except make sure the staff are kept as happy as the residents.

Carers take excellent care of my nan. She absolutely loves them all and has been so happy since she settled in. Carers are always respecting her dignity and promoting individuality. Also they build appropriate relationships with her.

They are sometimes understaffed which affects some quality.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Acacia Lodge Care Home

Thank you for the very thoughtful comments about the excellent care your Nan is receiving and we are pleased to note she has settled in. Respecting her dignity and individuality is an important part of the kind care we strive to achieve all times. However we are sorry to note you feel the Home is understaffed at times – we do very occasionally experience a disruption of staffing levels due to sickness but these are not common – if anyone ever feels concerned about staffing levels we encourage them to raise this with the Manager immediately and their concern will be listened to.

My mother has been a resident at Acacia Lodge for 3 years. My father-in-law was also a resident for last 6 months until his recent death. In both cases, I have found the care very good, although more staff on duty would provide greater care for all residents.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Acacia Lodge Care Home

Thank you for the kind comment relating to both your mother and more recently your father-in-law. We strive to offer the kindest possible care to all our Residents and keep staffing levels under constant review to ensure sufficient numbers are available for the needs of our clients. We actively encourage feedback with any particular concerns to us either directly to the management or through our regular relative meetings. We are grateful that you find the care at Acacia Lodge very good, our commitment is that you will always find this to be the case.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.025)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.025) out of 10 for Acacia Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.900 for Acacia Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 10 Ratings = 4.9

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia Lodge Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.125

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
