Both my parents were in the home until their deaths 4 days apart in November, it’s been a very hard few weeks but I’m very grateful for the care they received. The staff were very good and so was the medical care when needed.

The overall experience has been wonderful. It's clean, tidy, members of staff have the residents' best interests at heart. I do not need to worry about my mum.
Thank you to the manager for everything you do for my mum and our close surrounding family. It's been a pleasure.

My mum has been a resident for approximately 3 months and she has settled in well due to the staff who have all her interests at heart.
They have taken time to get to know her individual needs and whilst they are so very busy they will spend as much time with her as they can.
Mum loves to be as involved
as possible with activities and she has really enjoyed the Valentines, St David’s Day and other themed events. She would love to have more to do particularly at weekends and in the afternoon as these are quieter with less going on.
The staff work so hard and are so friendly and welcoming.
If I had any criticism it would be the facilities - the room Mum has needs some TLC - a lick of paint and a freshen up plus her bathroom lacks a working tap so if these things were given attention then it would be so much better for her.

Thank you so much Helen, Mum has settled in well and become a big part of the Margaret's family, as for the facilities I can assure you we have a 2-year maintenance plan which has already started, and the plumber has been in over the past two days sorting the issues with the taps. Thank you for your feedback and support we really appreciate it.

A few hiccups when Mum first went to the home but more due to her stubbornness not letting the staff help her, but since we sorted that issue the staff have been great with communication with me and making Mum feel at home as a resident.

This is a hell hole avoid it at all costs. My dad has been left to lie flat in bed with the sides up so he can see nothing. No tv or radio. We purchased a TV for him and an aerial lead, to come to visit him and find out they have taken his aerial lead and again left him to deteriorate with no tv or
radio. He has no stimulation. His feet are left cramped up at end of his bed. No one has tried to get him out of bed, He has been in bed now a year and has seized up. Every time we visit him drink bottle is always empty. Disgrace.

Hello Richard,
I’m sorry you think this, here at Margaret’s we do things to ensure residents get the best quality care and you had never brought complaints to me, as I said before, Dad's ariel was taken by myself due to it breaking. I also replaced this free of charge and now in his TV and has his TV on every day, also his TV has a timer so may turn off from time to time but care staff ensure it goes back on. Please, I would offer you to come in and have a meeting with us to talk about any other grumbles/concerns you may have. Dad's legs are retracting due to his bed-bound status.
Warmest regards

Where do I start? Firstly, I cannot recommend Margarets Rest Home highly enough. My Mum was one of the longest-serving residents there. Unfortunately, she has recently passed away. The care and kindness that the manager and her amazing team have shown my Mum, me and my sister over the years has been
outstanding. It's always a difficult decision to make when choosing a care home for a relative. Margarets really understand the needs of a dementia patient. Mum was extremely difficult to look after when she first went to the care home, but the staff never gave up on her. Their expert care and understanding was phenomenal and Mum soon settled in. As a family, we felt that Mum was loved and looked after. She certainly felt like part of the Margarets family and you cannot get better than that for your loved one. The manager and the staff attended the funeral. They have shown my sister and I kindness and respect throughout. We will never forget this and thank everyone who loved and cared for Mum.

The care home is very family orientated and knows how to meet the needs of our family member who has very advanced dementia. Would definitely recommend to future service users and their family members. The staff are fab and the new manager is very welcoming.

My aunt was staying here for short term respite and I visited weekly. Whilst the home seemed reasonable, and we were grateful for the care provided, my aunt sadly passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning. I understand that these things happen but what has shocked me is that at no point has one member
of staff offered their condolences. I called them about collecting her belongings and my Dad collected them on Friday and never was my aunts passing mentioned. I understand that carers are paid very little. I’ve worked in healthcare for 16 years myself and know it can be a thankless task at times, however, the main reason we do it is because we care about people. I think some basic training is needed here so that staff at least have the grace to say “sorry for your loss”.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family. We have contacted the next of kin to this effect. We are happy to speak to the author but are waiting for a callback.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.564)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.564) out of 10 for Margaret's Rest Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.138 for Margaret's Rest Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 65 Ratings = 4.138

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.426 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Margaret's Rest Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.4 = 0.926

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
