Since being in the home from 14-12-2016, my father is now back to his happy friendly self again after living on his own with nothing to live for he said. But now he has people to talk to and gets on with all the friendly staff, he is enjoying everyday again and loves the food and his new bedroom.

I am used to the home and I like it here. I was offered a bigger room but I decided not to move into it. My room is comfortable. I don't want to move again. I have nothing I want to complain about. The staff are nice, kind people.

My mother-in-law has been in this care home for the past two years. She is well looked after and the home appears to be safe. The home is cheerful but the communal room does seem a little cramped when all are seated during the day. Staff do arrange a few activities but the residents generally are not
very interested in taking part on some occasions. Maybe more space in the day room would help.

I am happy with the home at present. There have been many staff changes which have been a little unsettling for residents. There is a lack of activities since the activity lady left earlier in the year. All the staff are always friendly but have been short staffed at times.

Reply from Daksha Desai, Service Provider at Oak Lodge Care Home

Activities have always been planned either to be carried out by staff or from outside source. However, due to personal choice, all residents are not always keen to participate. A replacement Activities Co-ordinator has now been recruited.

My Mother-in-Law has been residing at Oak Lodge since August 2014 (16 months). She is well cared for in terms of her personal hygiene, medical needs and social activities. The staff are caring and professional in their approach. We are kept informed of her health and well being. Regular reviews of her
care are carried out. The staff are approachable and follow up any questions with good feedback.

The staff are excellent - they respond to all my mother's needs. They respond quickly to all her health changes. The paperwork they have to complete takes time which could be spent talking to residents. Although Oak Lodge is not a purpose built care home, and space is a real premium, they make the very
best use of what they have. It is much more of a large family home than a "care home". Any issues I have had have been dealt with quickly and appropriately. I am very satisfied with my mum's care. I feel she is safe.

I Would highly recommend Oak Lodge care home, my farther was at Oak Lodge where he was cared for by all the staff, they treated my father like a family member, and ourselves were treated like friends, and when it came to the day my father had to leave us he was treated with dignity and love, the support
we had from all the staff went beyond their duties as careers, we will never be able to thank you all enough and we are so glad we found Oak Lodge.

I found all the staff very friendly with relatives and also the residents. Any worries or concerns we have regarding our father the staff are always about to reassure us. The staff are always talking to the residents. We could have not found a better care home to suit our fathers needs.

All the staff at Oak Lodge work very hard to ensure all residents are given the care, patience and support to enable all to have as comfortable and contented environment especially during the vulnerable years of our loved ones. Without the understanding and support of the care home manager and all the
team, our family would not have coped with the worry of our mother's needs, care and protection being met. We will always be indebted and hope all involved are given the recognition and support they richly deserve.

The staff at Oak Lodge Care Home are friendly and warm to the clients and my father is engaging well with them and seems happy. There is a choice of menu at meal times and plenty of fluids are offered throughout the day. If any concerns with regards to my father are felt I would feel able to approach
the staff and know they would deal with it to my satisfaction. I'm encouraged to visit as and when I like, which I do. My father has only been at Oak Lodge Care Home for a short while but we already feel part of a big family.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.344)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.344) out of 10 for Oak Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.444 for Oak Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (51 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.444

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oak Lodge Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
