Newgate Lodge Care Home is situated in the market town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The Home is ideally located close to the town centre with good bus, rail and road links and only a short journey to the picturesque settings of Newstead Abbey and Sherwood Forest.

Newgate Lodge is a residential care home registered to provide Residential and Dementia care for 60 older persons. They have been awarded the Dementia Quality Mark by Nottinghamshire Social Services and their CQC rating is “GOOD” with good achieved in all 5 inspection areas (March 2019).

All care plans are designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, recognising their abilities and always encouraging and assisting independence, empowering people to remain in control of their daily lives. The team also invites loved ones and representatives to be actively involved in the care planning process with regular reviews.

Mother in Law has been a resident here for just over two years and she has never looked so well. She is really happy here as family visit nearly every day and the staff are brilliant, just like family members. When we were looking for a care home we looked at loads and some you would not put a dog in.
This place is brilliant in every way. We are kept informed with everything, so myself and family cannot fault. Keep up the good work!

My Dad has lived at Newgate Lodge for 7 months. For the previous 8 months he had live-in care at home. His care at Newgate Lodge is in every way far better than it was at home. Dad's physical and mental health is greatly improved and he is safe, secure and very well looked after.

My husband and I have visited a resident since she arrived and have been very impressed by the care and support, she and other residents' receive. Although she is deaf and cannot speak she is never ignored and is included in things that can be difficult in her case. Residents seem relaxed and well cared
for. It's like a big happy caring family. We have visited other care homes and this is certainly the best.

A clean and up to date environment, always very welcoming, someone always available if we need to talk. Both my mother-in-law and father-in-law live in Newgate Lodge. My mother-in-law is upstairs and my father-in-law is downstairs. Both have their needs met really well and the staff have genuine care
and respect for them both.

The care home is always clean, especially the rooms. The staff are friendly and very caring towards the people in their care. They are alert and watchful and ensure safety for their residents. They engage with them talking and joking and trying to encourage a smile or laugh. From what I have seen my
only concern is the food, I think choice, variety of food could be improved. Although the standard and quality may be ok nutrition seems to be of a low standard.

We visited many homes and it was clear from our first impression on walking through the door this had a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was bright and spotlessly clean. The carers work so hard and know they really care about Mum. The office is very organised and efficient. The management team are approachable,
caring and communicate with family. Mum is very prone to falls - action has been taken. Prevention strategies put in place. Her room was decorated to her choice and is lovely. Also, clear respect is shown for her culture and communication issues.

We required urgent care for my father in law. I went to look around. The home was clean and beautifully presented. The member of staff who took all the details was kind, professional and understanding. My father in law arrived the following day. A carer immediately advised that the dementia unit would
not be appropriate so he lives downstairs and only sleeps upstairs in the dementia unit. The home manager is excellent and supportive of the difficulties between my husband and his brother. We can visit when we wish. There has been a marked improvement in improvement in both my father in law's physical and mental health.

I came to visit my friend and firstly I noticed how clean and welcoming it felt here. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for me. I visit my brother nearly every other day, I am so pleased after him being in 2 other homes I found Newgate Lodge. I cannot say one bad word about the home, from management to the dedicated carers, they spend time talking to the residents always giving them plenty to drink and biscuits if they want
one going round asking and taking them to the toilet. If any residents need attention they are there straight away. Been at meal time the food is excellent and plenty of fresh fruit. They pamper the ladies doing their nails and painting them, combing their hair and curling it. The home smells lovely and I am always made very welcome with a cup of tea if I want one. Their bedrooms are nicely decorated, furniture nice.

My father has been in Newgate Lodge for almost five and a half years now. Throughout that time he has always been so well looked after and cared for by the wonderful, caring staff. They have a hairdresser on site every week and staff make sure that he has opportunity to be taken to have his hair trimmed
when needed in the room where she works from. My father needs a lot of support in looking after himself and Newgate Lodge are able to meet all his needs and more. There are plenty of activities going on and usually music or TV to listen to. He is safe and happy here and loved by the staff; and we know, as a family, that we did the best thing at the right time for him as he needed 24 hour care.

My Mother-in-Law has been living in here for just over a year now and the care she has received has been exceptional. She is alway's saying " how lucky I am that you found this place". The home is clean and well kept and decorated sympathetically to meet the needs of residents with dementia. The management
and staff always keep us informed about what's going on with Mum and the wide variety of events in the Home. The Owner of the Home holds group meeting's with the families of residents which inform us of his intentions for the future, he then asks about our needs and if we have any idea's we would like to see. He allows family members the opportunity to attend training with the staff, as it could help when the resident is out with their families. I attended the Moving and Handling, which made getting my Mother-in-Law up and down so much easier. Everyone from the Managers to the Nurse's, cooks, cleaners and the handyman care about the residents and that's what makes this place special.

My nan is currently a resident of Newgate Lodge and is so happy here. The staff are wonderful. It is such a blessing knowing that nan is happy and she always looks so well. I believe she is treated with dignity, she always comments on how happy she is there. They constantly update us on activities
they are doing and anything they feel I need to know. The standard of care she has received is exceptional, even down to the maintenance gentleman who works so hard to make sure that their rooms are so comfortable and like home from home. A very welcoming, clean outstanding home.

My mother has been in Newgate Lodge since January, I’ve never seen so much love from carers, this reflects in my mother as to how happy she is. Before she came here I feel everyone else wrote her off and said she wouldn’t walk again. On her first day, she walked the length of the hall and us, as family
visiting, could not be made more welcome. I have not met one carer who I doubt, everyone I feel are amazing.

My Mother lived in Newgate Lodge from December 2016 until her death in March 2018. She suffered from dementia and had very restricted communication skills and mobility. Throughout that time I always had peace of mind in knowing that she was receiving the best care possible from an amazing team of professional,
hardworking, caring and loving staff. She really did have a 'second family' there and every time we visited we also felt part of this family. The management and staff are all professional and dedicated people and the home is extremely clean, comfortable and well managed. Since my Mother's death is has been necessary for my Father to go into a care home and I had no hesitation in choosing Newgate Lodge for him even though I could have found somewhere close to where I live. I cannot recommend Newgate highly enough.

Laura joined Lidder Care in 2022, bringing over 20 years of experience in caring for older adults. Her impressive career in the care industry has seen her rise from a Care Assistant to Team Leader, then Head of Care and ultimately a Home Manager.


As the Registered Manager at Newgate Lodge Care Home, Laura is dedicated to fostering a happy and safe environment where residents and their families can spend quality time together. Laura’s favourite aspect of her role is engaging with residents and their families.


In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with friends and family, loves summer holidays and enjoys diving into a box set in the winter.

Lee Swinn

Lee has been Newgate Lodge’s Deputy Manager for the past 7 years. Lee has worked in care for 19 years and has extensive experience with a variety of conditions within elderly care and those with learning disabilities. Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead, Leanne became a part of Newgate Lodge in 2023, bringing her rich background in care, activities and childcare.


A qualified Nursery Teacher and teaching assistant, Leanne skilfully oversees residents’ lifestyles, planning events and daily activities that bring joy and engagement. Leanne finds immense satisfaction in witnessing the positive impact these activities have on the residents’ lives.

Sharon became a part of the Newgate Lodge team back in 2004 and during her time advanced from carer to senior carer to her current role as Head Chef. With over 35 years of culinary experience, she provides a variety of nutritious and delicious meals tailored to all residents’ individual preferences, taking pride in creating dishes that bring joy to everyone.


When she isn’t cooking up a storm in the kitchen, Sharon pursues her passion for motorbikes and enjoys riding her Harley Davidson!


Denise

Denise Shaw

Job Title: Head Housekeeper

Joined: 2003

Denise has been a part of the Newgate Lodge team since 2003. She has had various roles including Night Carer, Day Carer and Senior Carer. Currently, Denise serves as the Housekeeping Manager, where she ensures all areas of the home are impeccably clean and well maintained. Denise takes great pleasure in every aspect of her role!


In her spare time, Denise enjoys getting to immerse herself in a good book, travelling on holidays and spending time with her family.


Tony

Tony Nolan

Job Title: Maintenance

Joined: 2022

Following a successful 27-year career installing fire alarms and intruder alarms, Tony joined Lowmoor Nursing Home as part of the Maintenance team in December 2022.


What Tony enjoys most about his role is the satisfaction he receives when a task is completed! He also loves the aspect of problem-solving coming up with ideas and resolving issues. The maintenance team look after the upkeep of the home, perform repairs and maintain outdoor areas.


When Tony is away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family and scouting.
