My mum has been a resident of St Peter's for nearly 2 years after her previous care home closed suddenly. It was a tricky move as Mum didn't want to leave her old home but all the staff at St Peter's went above and beyond to help my mum settle in under difficult circumstances. My mum is a Buddhist and
they personalised the garden outside of her room so she could practice her beliefs, which was/is so important to her and us. As Mum's dementia has advanced, her behaviour has been very challenging at times, but the staff have always treated her with kindness and respect. As a family, it is always so difficult handing over the care of your loved one to someone else, but we have always known that mum is safe, well cared for and listened to at St Peter's. The peace of mind knowing this is priceless and we cannot thank the staff enough for all they do.

We celebrated my mother-in-law's 90th birthday today at the care home.
I would like to thank each and every one of the amazing staff for always showing how much they care for all the residents.
They went above and beyond to make her birthday celebration special under the circumstances of my mother-in-law's
poor health.
The entertainer was amazing as always.
Happy New Year to you all and thank you.

Very friendly, caring staff who do a wonderful job in sometimes really difficult circumstances - I know my dad has been well cared for. Nothing has ever been a bother for the staff for my dad's care - they are amazing. Thank you to the staff.

Poor communication. No music on ever which is so important to residents. Times when I walked the whole ground floor to find staff and struggled. No conversations of advice regarding her care going forward. Felt invisible when visiting. Just sorry couldn’t get mum moved before she passed.
Still not
answering simple questions after mum passed.

Reply from Lynn Jewell, Operations Manager at St Peter's

St Peter’s Care Home has looked after the people of Ruddington for over 20 years, giving the best care that we can and it is what we strived to do in respect of the reviewer’s Mum. We disagree strongly with the inferences contained in this review, and it runs counter to our experience of our contact with her family whilst she was with us. We are sorry if this family member now feels that her Mum was not given the very best care, or that they were ignored, but we always felt we had an excellent relationship with them, in fact, they praised our care on many occasions.

We always maintain strong links with resident’s families as we feel it is so important that everyone is involved in the care of a loved one. We will continue this practice going forward and if anyone has any concerns or issues regarding the care of a loved one, they are more than welcome to raise them at any time with us. This is, we feel the best way to give support to both residents and families at all times.

My father has been a resident at St Peter's for several years now. His care while here has been flawless and he has always been treated as a person. I can't rate the staff of the home highly enough, the rooms, food and communal areas are all welcoming.

My Mum arrived at St Peter’s during the lockdown and has been made very welcome by all the staff. She tells me that everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, and she is clearly happy there. I am encouraged by the staff to ring to speak to my Mum, and visiting is now possible, in a Covid safe way.
I know I can call the staff if I have any concerns.

My mum has been a resident at St Peter's for two years this June. She has always had excellent care. The staff and management are very kind, caring, knowledgeable and hardworking. They are always very friendly and professional. There is always good communication, and nothing is too much trouble for
them.
The staff quickly got to know my mum and her needs well. Before Covid, I use to visit regularly and at different times, and always felt very welcome by all staff and there was always a lovely, warm, homely atmosphere and everywhere was spotless. I still speak daily with mum.
Mum has always felt very safe and has enjoyed the varied and interesting activities and the very tasty food.
St Peter's is like a home from home. A very welcoming place, with dedicated staff providing excellent care.

Mum started to need 24-hour care recently. Because of the Government guidelines on care home visits, I had to do all of my research via Zoom tours and phone calls. It was really difficult to imagine choosing the right home for Mum in these circumstances, but of the 8 CQC “good” plus, rated local care
homes I researched, St Peter’s was by far the nicest, most homely and approachable, with a management team that had been there for many years. (I would urge anyone looking for a care home to check how long the various staff members have worked there, (the longer the better), and if, as some of the larger care homes do, whether they employ their staff on depressing contracts).
Despite the current Covid rules, St Peter’s have made Mum’s transition as comfortable as possible. They have been flexible and accommodating, and communication has been good. I can’t wait till the rules are lifted, and I can take Mum around the lovely busy village with its cafes and shops.

When lockdown started in March 2020, Dads dementia became much worse, all the activities myself and my brothers were able to take him to had shut down. Despite six care calls a day, it became apparent Dad needed 24-hour care. When we spoke to St Peter's, Dads behaviours/habits seemed completely manageable,
and they genuinely seemed to care for all the residents, as if they were part of a large family.
Dad went into St Peter's in September 2020 and has thrived. We have not been able to see him due to Covid, but, as a family, regularly speak to the staff and Dad. He has become the sociable gentleman again that we know he is. The staff have involved Dad in activities that relate to his previous job, and he has a renewed sense of purpose.
Dads sister is arranging to be his regular visitor as we all work full time, and we hope to be able to spend time with him in the summer as restrictions allow.
Thanks to St Peters staff for making a difficult transition for us as a family, easy for Dad.

I was in respite care for two weeks and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was kind and caring. Special mention for excellence was the cook for wonderful food. Washing ladies named my clothes for me and ensured I came home with all my clothes and the handyman sorted my electrics and getting online.

My father came to the home on Monday 27/1/20 and has settled in pretty well. He has been made so welcome by all the staff and on shift change the staff coming on introduced themselves to him. Only 2 days but very impressed with the level of care shown and the dignity towards my dad. Food, he has eaten
all his meals something he hasn't done for 3 months. Staff that care, management has been great. Thank you.

I really can't praise St Peter's highly enough. It's set in a nice location in a quiet lane in Ruddington, and is cosy inside. The most amazing thing about it by far, though, is the staff. They are always smiling and friendly, clearly care for the welfare of their charges and are extremely professional.
They really are lovely people, and made me feel very welcome when I visited my mother for a week of afternoons.
I live 3,000 miles away from my mother, and being so far away from her when she was declining was a real worry. I know that she is in the best possible hands at St Peter's, and can now rest easy.
Choosing a care home for one's elderly loved ones is a serious decision, and I'm aware that not all care homes are equal. St Peter's is one that I recommend very highly.

From the moment I stepped into St Peter's, I knew it was right for my mother in law. I couldn’t wait to go back and get her to show her the place. It was her face when she looked around, she left my side and went for a look round. The staff spoke to her and answered her many questions.
We agreed to
respite and it was tough at first but with the help of the amazing staff, we are seeing major breakthroughs. She is happy now and is settled, she is relaxing into the routines helped by everyone there. I’m so glad we found St. Peter’s.

I have been very impressed with the care given to my mother. In my opinion, St Peter's has a homely feel and caters very well for the needs of its residents. The manager and staff are professional and dedicated; there seems a genuine concern for all the people in their care. They are supportive to family
members too. This has all helped my mother to settle in and gain familiarity with her new surroundings. I am very appreciative to all the staff.

Dad came to St Peter's for his first experience of respite care. Staff have been incredibly flexible in allowing him to stay for a long or as little as he wants within the week allocated.
Staff have been excellent, a very high standard of care at all time, very friendly, patient and welcoming. Prompt

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.094)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.094) out of 10 for St Peter's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.193 for St Peter's is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.193

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.901 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Peter's is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.526

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
