I have now lived in the care home Hawthorne Lodge in Nottingham for several months and I am happy here. The staff are very helpful and friendly and go out of their way to make the residents feel at ease and happy. There is a good atmosphere here, the residents seem happy. We were treated as individuals,
taken on outings, helped with shopping and visitors are made welcome. They have even accepted my pet dog and given me lots of help.

My sister was in care for several months before she died and was given kindness and attention which more than satisfied her needs.
The staff members were very friendly and always found time to listen.
The bedroom and living area were spacious and everything was spotlessly clean.
There is a lovely
garden area as well as a range of rooms inside for sitting and socialising, TV and dining.
The home also organised trips out, which gave everyone something to look forward to.
Thank you so much, Hawthorn Lodge.

As far as I am concerned the home is great and my mother in law is happy. The home has recently been decorated and looks very nice. All the staff are wonderful.

I can only describe what I have seen as a visitor to Hawthorne Lodge. My sister, a resident, has mentioned the quality of the food and drink, activities, facilities, which more than satisfy her requirements. From my observations, all the staff - carers and administrators are helpful and appear to do
their best for the residents, medical requirements seem to be well catered for. Night staff regularly check residents, extra facilities, eg. barbecue have been provided, redecoration has taken place, the garden area is a welcome amenity for smokers and non-smokers, as are the 'pets', viz. rabbits, fish, budgerigar and visiting dogs.

This home is a 'home from home'. It is friendly, the staff are kind. It is an inclusive home, without 'airs and graces' just good honest caring staff. They do daily activities, trips out and other themed events. They invite relatives into share activities, food and drinks. Residents can continue to
pursue their interests like 'going to the pub',(a bar non-alcoholic). They have pets, music, TV and radio. My father enjoys his time here and is well cared for. Only one thing I would change would be to have it redecorated as a little 'tired'.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.816)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.816) out of 10 for Hawthorn Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.716 for Hawthorn Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 67 Ratings = 4.716

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hawthorn Lodge is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
