Our family are so happy that my Aunt has found a new home at The Clough Care Home in Bolton. At 90+ years of age she had been having such a difficult time taking care of herself and suffered from terrible loneliness. Now she is so well cared for, she eats heartily every day, sleeps a peaceful sleep
every night and socializes all day with her new friends. The staff and management at The Clough are so kind and caring as well as experienced and very capable. I am very comfortable leaving my Aunt in their hands.

I was very reluctant to leave Mum in respite but I needn't have worried. The staff are very kind and caring and my mum is being very well looked after. I am very pleased with the way the staff and management run the Clough. It's very clean and tidy when we visit. My mum is well cared for and she is
very happy there. There is always someone available to speak to even though we know how busy it can be. I was initially very anxious and I must have called the manager 20 times in the first week. Thank you for understanding and always getting back to me asap.

Our relative is currently here having respite care. We can't thank this home enough for the sense of comfort which we have, knowing that our relative is being cared for and looked after. He was quite confused on admission and now he seems to be doing so much better. All thanks to the staff. The management
team have been really good and the lady in charge has helped us understand the processess. Communication is good also. He is a funny soul and we can see the true character shining through, which we have not seen for a while. Thank you for all your support during quite a stressful period of our lives.

Have reported this care home previously for infection control, commode left and not cleaned. As well as being served meals in her room where the filthy commode was. Lack of baths (personal hygiene) for months, also reported this. Management does not inform you of falls when holding LPA, failure to get
medical treatment when needed. Left to deteriorate, only seeking medical attention when prompted by myself. The home has a total lack of organisation. When mum came back from the hospital after being treated for urosepsis and severe dehydration the care staff didn't even know mum was back in the building. This care company messed up when they let the previous managers go. Since the last manager left this home has employed two incompetent managers.
Make sure you are kept up to date with your relative's records and their well-being.
If you think your relative can live on a slice of toast and a pudding every day then this is the place for them.

Thanks for taking time out to leave a review - It's always difficult to hear that a family member has had an unpleasant experience.
Unfortunately, as you know the above comment has never been mentioned in any of your previous complaints or conversations and therefore, I would once again welcome you to contact me where we can go over any issues which you may have had when your relative was a resident at The Clough for her stay.
I think a vast majority of our relatives have positive experiences and are happy with the care provided to their loved ones. This is evident from our genuine reviews and positive feedback which do reflect the high quality of care and commitment from our staff to all our residents at The Clough.

My Mum lived at the Clough, in Bolton, Lancashire, for the last two years of her life. She had dementia and needed to be looked after and feel at home. The Clough was a wonderful place for her. Aside from being warm, safe and well-fed, she was made to feel at home by lovely staff. They also managed
to entertain, in the very difficult covid period. I cannot speak highly enough of them and can recommend them to any family in a similar position.

Our mother has been a resident at The Clough for two years now and we are very satisfied with the care she has received. In my opinion, the best thing about The Clough is the excellent staff. They are so friendly and caring and are dealing with the current coronavirus fantastically.

The home is a very friendly place that seems to be a caring and relaxed environment. All residents are spoken to using their first name and carers are aware of the needs of the residents.

Dad is 98 and up til 3 months ago lived at home independently, this was getting harder and harder for our family to cope. We placed Dad in the Clough for respite and he has stayed there ever since, giving us the family peace of mind. We are extremely happy with the love and care Dad receives. He loves
his meals, he always looks smart and clean. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff they are all very attentive, friendly, patient, caring and kind. It's like being in one big happy family. We are so pleased we chose the Clough.

The Clough is the ideal solution for my mother who is going on 92. The home is clean - food is excellent and the staff are fabulous - very caring and sympathetic to the issues of the elderly and infirm. Myself/brother or sister who is a district nurse are all in agreement it's 10 out of 10. The manager
and all staff fab. In a lovely setting with good grounds and facility for sitting out in the gardens.

The staff are always helpful and caring. Residents are treated with dignity. Nothing is too much work for them.
Each resident is dealt with separately - concerns that they have are resolved. E.g. Mum lost her 'bag' and immediately the staff looked for it and replaced the battery in her hearing aid
immediately. Little things mean a lot!

We as a family, are delighted with the care our mother receives at The Clough. Whenever we visit, which is very frequently, the atmosphere is lovely, like one big family. The carers and management are excellent and always welcome any discussion we wish to have regarding Mum. Our Father, who is also
elderly is welcomed with open arms when he visits and he often stays to lunch. Any concerns we may have about Mums health or well being are always dealt with immediately with compassion and understanding. We would 'HIGHLY' recommend The Clough to anyone looking for a care home for their relative. The peace of mind we have is comforting.

I have always found the staff to be very caring and efficient in their duties; always friendly and approachable.
The home seems well-managed with very high standards of hygiene and cleanliness maintained. My mother has been a resident here for eight months now and has settled in nicely - she seems
totally at home!
She is happy here, is eating well and is always well dressed and healthy looking when ever I come to visit.
I would definitely recommend The Clough as a residential care home of choice.

My Mum was 105 in June 2017, she has been in the home since just before her 100th birthday. She entered at a very low point in her life and it is my belief that the care she has received by the staff over the last 5 years at the home is the reason she is still with us today.
I love visiting her at
The Clough because of its friendly atmosphere.

My mum has been a resident in The Clough for 10 months, she is 94 and dreaded going into care. However, she has loved the carers from her first day and now regards it as her home, where she is surrounded by an atmosphere of loving care and patience. All the staff adapt to her mood swings, by chatting
and sharing jokes most days, or simply talking quietly other days. It is very noticeable that she is treated with dignity and offered many choices which are extremely important to her.

This is a lovely, clean and spacious home with delicious home cooked food. We have always found the staff to be kind, caring and professional at all times both with their residents and visitors. As mums conditions deteriorated my sister and I could not fault their specialised care she has and the support
we received from Manager and staff.

During my visit of 3 months to Bolton I was visiting my sister on a daily basis. At all times I witnessed excellent staff care, meals served promptly and presented so invitingly. Cleanliness always a priority. Most days arriving early in the morning around 9am. Residents rooms are cleaned and residents
washed/dressed either finishing breakfast or gathered in lounge or library. Overall excellent residential care home.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.386)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.386) out of 10 for The Clough is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for The Clough is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.719 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Clough is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.4 = 0.469

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
