My aunt was encouraged to be in the sitting room each day, in a stimulating environment, her hair was always tidy, clothes matched and after years of fussy eating, she ate well.
The home and her room were always clean and tidy, there was never an unpleasant smell, dining tables had linen tablecloths
and napkins and there was an air of care about the spotless facilities.
All the staff demonstrated a high level of care and consideration for the residents, ensuring their dignity was never compromised. My aunt would say she couldn’t be in a better place and was eternally grateful for the care she received.
During the last few days of my aunt’s life, staff sat with her, also supporting me as I sat there. Although my aunt at the end could hardly communicate, whenever a member of staff came in the room, touched her on the hand and called her name, her face would light up in recognition.
There could be no higher commendation for the staff that were so caring for my aunt.

Due to my wife's medical condition; Alzheimer's, dementia and curvature of her spine, it was becoming increasingly difficult to care for her properly at home. After consulting with Spennymoor staff, it was decided that she would move into residential care at the home. This has proved to be an excellent
choice.

My Father recently moved to Spennymoor from a sub standard home elsewhere. The care and support he has received in Spennymoor have transformed him into a much healthier and positive man. He thinks the world of the staff and his quality of life has improved greatly. I am delighted with care and support
he gets. He his happy and enjoys his time in the home. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and ensure the safety and health of my father.

All the staff at Spennymoor are extremely friendly and look after the residents very well.
My dad has been there for the past 3 or so years and I couldn't be happier with the care he receives.
The general upkeep of the place is always clean and in good order.
I only get up to see my dad a few
times a year but I'm happy with the fact that he gets so well looked after.

Since our Aunt moved to Spennymoor in May 2017 she has been treated remarkably well. As soon as we walked in to view this care home, we realised this was the place for her. Every member of Management and Staff were welcoming, helpful and caring. We are kept up to date with her general health and
well being which has improved considerably. When a person has to give up their home it is a very big step but she put in her own words "Spennymoor is a home from home". The people at Spennymoor have given her family peace of mind knowing she is well cared for and happy. No praise is too high and the recent award given to Spennymoor is well justified. Thank you to everyone concerned.

We are absolutely delighted with the individual quality of care that my father receives at Spennymoor. He has been a resident for almost two years and we cannot fault the high standards of care and attention he receives. The dedicated team of staff do an amazing job and it really feels like home from
home. Dad is settled and likes his daily routines and activities, including sing-alongs, art classes and keep-fit! At 86 years old he's doing great! Whether it's a trip to the barbers or a hospital appointment (if we're not available) nothing is too much trouble.
We really can't praise Spennymoor enough. Well done to the manager and all the staff!

The care home have been very diligent in looking after my mother for the last 3.5 years. They have been quick to inform us of any health problems which have required input from the family and are always supportive and helpful.

I've visited this home many times over many years and have always found the staff very friendly and helpful. When my father needed to move to a home after a hospital admission, I was very pleased to find a bed available at Spennymoor. The number of residents are relatively small and the building is
an older one with character which makes it more like a familiar, family home. The staff numbers are hence smaller and my father knows all the staff. Before going to Spennymoor, my father would sleep all day and be awake all night. This has now been corrected and he is now eating and drinking properly and looks much healthier and his hygiene is better as they can hoist him into the bath. He does play dominoes with staff and residents. There is generally a different activity on every day including an exercise class on a Friday. He gets frequent teas and coffee with biscuits and the meals are varied. They always help him into and out of the chair or bed so he doesn't fall.

We have a cousin who has been a resident for the past ten months in Spennymoor. We are extremely happy with the care she is receiving. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who care for her and they always greet you with a warming smile and "Hello" when we visit. It is lovely, clean, warm and really
is "home from home."

Very friendly, warm and welcoming. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff. Lovely atmosphere, all residents seem to be happy and contented. Mum loves it there and although she's only been there almost four weeks, she's settled into the home and really does call it her home. Very satisfied with
her care at the present time.

My father was in Spennymoor for 2 years, received excellent care and our family had peace of mind. It was a hard decision as we loved him so much but he was very happy and we were right until the end. Thanks to all the carers and management.

My father was a resident at Spennymoor for 2 and 1/2 years and the care and surroundings were fantastic. Having worked as an on-call GP for many years in Bolton, it was always extremely rare to have an emergency call out to Spennymoor as the standard of care was so excellent - but when you did get a
call out, the meticulous cleanliness and exceptional care of the residents - who are all treated as individuals rather than as a homogeneous group - was noticeable.

My mother was critically ill last year and with the help given by the care, compassion and encouragement of the staff at Spennymoor, she is soon to return to her home. The food is outstanding - all home cooked and smells excellent. I could not recommend a care home more. The staff give such good care as second nature, it does not come across as a chore. They ensure that residents have activities to keep them active and occupied. A lovely lady comes in every week to do hair and someone else will do their nails. Brilliant.

The lovely staff at Spennymoor made my dad's last days as comfortable as possible. We were always greeted with a smile, an offer of a drink and a full update on his condition, nothing was too much trouble.
It has been a pleasure to meet such a kind and competent team.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.263)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.263) out of 10 for Spennymoor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Spennymoor is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.263 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Spennymoor is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.8 = 0.263

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
