EachStep Blackley offers specialist residential and nursing care that is focused on enabling people living with dementia to live happier, more independent lives. The EachStep model is designed to support people living with dementia throughout the journey, from early diagnosis until the end of life. In July 2020 it featured on BBC Panorama 'The Forgotten Frontline', which has been described as powerful, insightful and heartbreaking as it explores the impact of Coronavirus in the care homes during the pandemic.

The home is purpose-built and features five residential and nursing households, each supporting 12 people: Thornlea, Charlestown, The Howells, The Clough and Woodlands. These households have been purpose-designed to promote the independence, safety and wellbeing of people living with dementia, applying the latest innovation and research in dementia care, yet still, feel homely and welcoming.

The home is equipped with specialist lighting and assistive technologies that promote safety and independence, as well as furnishings that are comforting and comfortable for people living with dementia.

To promote full, stimulated lives, EachStep includes facilities such as a library, hair and beauty salon and cinema room.

Within the home, there are two hugely popular free services, 'dementia café' and Eachstep club.

The home has a 'dementia cafe' meets on the 2nd Wednesday every month, 11 am - 1 pm.

Home cooked and nutritious meals are cooked in house by the kitchen team who cater for residents preferences and any dietary requirements.

Staff are highly trained to ensure they provide the best possible quality of care while promoting independence, dignity and fulfilment.

The care my late husband received was so caring. He was a difficult person regarding personal care but the staff did a great job and were considerate of his "outbursts" towards them. I was with my husband when he passed and the Manager was supporting the family which we needed at that time which we
were grateful for, I would recommend Each Step Blackley for the caring staff.

My father has recently moved in to Eachstep and he has been made to feel very welcome, as have we. The staff are very nice and been helpful. They don't wear uniforms, so taking us a bit of time to know who's who but we are able to ask. We like the fact that when we visit we can just make ourselves drinks
in the small kitchen and don't have to wait to be asked. Sadly, my father doesn't like to join in activities. This may happen in time.

We cannot thank the staff in Howells enough for looking after mum. Nothing is too much trouble, she is the happiest we have seen her in ages. She has definitely improved since moving to Each Step last September and has been allowed to keep her independence. Leaving mum to go back home to Australia was
torture, but we felt confident in the care she was receiving and how settled she had become in a short time. The facilities are excellent and very homely, (no sitting around the edge of the room! ) Mum can visit different lounges, the conservatory, the garden and the cinema room when she wants. We receive photos and videos of her joining in the entertainment and even visiting Tesco!

What a lovely place! My mother-in-law moved in August and we couldn't have hoped to find a better place for her. She is happy, content and settled in straight away. The staff team are very welcoming and attentive.

My friend has been cared for at Eachstep Blackley for the last 12-months. Since moving in, she has really settled in and the staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much for them and she’s treated like one of their own and it very much feels like she is part of a family.

I am concerned about the arrangements for speaking to residents on the 'phone. Since Eachstep was taken over by Park Homes, the pre-existing in-house telephone system has been removed. There is now no facility to speak to residents directly. This is a significant loss for residents who are bedridden
and have no visitors and, therefore, no contact with the outside world. After a long dialogue with the Park Homes management, the only solution offered is for someone to purchase a mobile phone for the resident or arrange (at their own expense) for a landline to be installed in the resident's room. This is an unworkable solution both from a practical viewpoint and from a financial viewpoint. Park Homes Ltd is an extremely commercially successful company and, in my view, the problem caused by their decision should be rectified by them at their expense. My discussions with staff at the home confirm that they are unhappy with the current arrangement also.

Upon reviewing the situation at EachStep Blackley with the management team at the home, we are going to be buying a household mobile phone that can be used by the people we support to receive calls from their loved ones in private. This should alleviate the difficulty in supporting your loved one to speak with you on our new phone system while we look on a more permanent solution.
We will ensure the management team at the home contact you to inform you of the telephone number and how to arrange for colleagues to support your loved one with a call if necessary.

My mum has been in nursing since October 2020. All the staff are absolutely excellent. The home is a credit to the manager.
My mum is extremely well cared for; she is always spotlessly clean, just like the home.
I can sleep at night knowing my mum is in such an excellent place, and I would highly

I couldn’t wish for my mum to be anywhere better......watching Panorama, the forgotten frontline, on Thursday evening was very emotional, but it also gave me a great deal of comfort to know that my mum was in such a fantastic care home and being cared for by such wonderful dedicated staff. That includes
everyone, from the cleaners, kitchen staff, laundry staff, admin and all care staff. Mum has been a resident on Howells household since January 2018 and although it has been hard to accept that she had to go into care, Eachstep have always been very supportive to myself and my family. The last 5 months have been extremely difficult since the home went into lockdown and we were unable to visit our loved ones, but I knew that Mum was safe and happy and was receiving the best care possible. The staff on Howells did everything they could to keep us in contact with our family with regular communication via FaceTime, videos and photos. I can’t thank everyone enough...just amazing staff!

The home is welcoming, clean and has a homely feel to it. My friend tells me about the things that she has been doing and is kept busy. The staff are attentive and very caring. There is a very reasonably priced cafe at the home and we love to spend time there.

My Mum moved into Eachstep in September 2019, and I am extremely happy with the care provided and the notable difference in her since settling into Eachstep. The facilities are excellent, but the real stars are the staff. They are very caring, and I feel confident that they are meeting Mum's needs.
There is a wide range of regular activities, and most of the residents I have seen enjoy taking part; Mum certainly does. This is the third attempt to find a good dementia home for Mum, and I feel like we have hit the jackpot! Highly recommended.

Mum has been a full-time resident on Thornlea for 18 months now and though it has been a difficult and emotional change of lifestyle all round, she is settled and safe and is able to wander the unit and lovely secure garden as much as she feels the need to. Her care from all the staff in every area
is genuine and gives us full confidence that Mum has all her needs met. Mum's room is excellent and we couldn't be more pleased that she is with Eachstep.

Although everyone in my family has been through an emotional time we are relieved that at last, she is in a safe, secure place where we are confident the staff support her 100%. Her room is lovely. My husband died in February 2019 after 7 months of exceptional care in Eachstep care home Manchester. Such devoted care from every member of staff is beyond a mere thank you. My husband was cared for during his dementia state with efficiency, compassion and dignity. This care was extended to me, as
I was an almost daily visitor and the welcome started as I entered reception. The design of the place creates a home type environment, it is non-formal and friendly. I witnessed dedication from Management and Staff and I certainly commend this lovely care home.

The care in Eachstep is excellent. The staff are all very caring, compassionate and dedicated. The care home is very clean and the cafe is an added bonus as it is nice to take our mother for her to mee other residents and their families for a chat, and it is good for family get-togethers. The staff
