EachStep Blackley offers specialist residential and nursing care that is focused on enabling people living with dementia to live happier, more independent lives. The EachStep model is designed to support people living with dementia throughout the journey, from early diagnosis until the end of life. In July 2020 it featured on BBC Panorama 'The Forgotten Frontline', which has been described as powerful, insightful and heartbreaking as it explores the impact of Coronavirus in the care homes during the pandemic.

The home is purpose-built and features five residential and nursing households, each supporting 12 people: Thornlea, Charlestown, The Howells, The Clough and Woodlands. These households have been purpose-designed to promote the independence, safety and wellbeing of people living with dementia, applying the latest innovation and research in dementia care, yet still, feel homely and welcoming.

The home is equipped with specialist lighting and assistive technologies that promote safety and independence, as well as furnishings that are comforting and comfortable for people living with dementia.

To promote full, stimulated lives, EachStep includes facilities such as a library, hair and beauty salon and cinema room.

Within the home, there are two hugely popular free services, 'dementia café' and Eachstep club.

The home has a 'dementia cafe' meets on the 2nd Wednesday every month, 11 am - 1 pm.

Home cooked and nutritious meals are cooked in house by the kitchen team who cater for residents preferences and any dietary requirements.

Staff are highly trained to ensure they provide the best possible quality of care while promoting independence, dignity and fulfilment.

We moved my grandmother from another care home that was unable to meet her needs, since moving into Eachstep my nana is happy healthy and well cared for.


All the staff are welcoming and friendly and we couldn't ask for a better place for my nana to be.

We have been so lucky that we were able to secure a place in this amazing care home. The quality of care that my father in law receives is excellent and the dedication of all the staff is extraordinary.
Dementia is a terrible illness not just for the patient but also for the rest of their loved ones,
family and friends. Everyone at Eachstep has done so much to make it better for all of us.

I have read the recent review and felt I needed to add my experience.


My mum has lived at Eachstep for nearly three years and my overall view is that it is a lovely home, carers who have a genuine empathy and care for the people who live at Eachstep.


I do not agree with the description of the

food. My experience is that the food is of a good standard and for those people with a soft diet, it is excellent.


An activities coordinator has recently been appointed and more focused activities have been delivered to the households with a brilliant Halloween party being held on the 31/10.


The bottom line is nobody chooses to put a loved one into residential or nursing care but there comes a point where there is no choice. I am assured as much as I can be, outside of me looking after her, that my mum is safe and that she is looked after with care and compassion at Eachstep and that is what is important.

Sadly over the last 18 months, I have noticed a rapid decline in the services and care at this care home – salient points below:-


•   Little or no interaction with the residents.
•   The meals being served are in my opinion not age appropriate and are akin to aeroplane type fodder; tasteless slop!
•   The

TV on in the main room, however, every time I visit my relative it’s playing Smooth radio which is clearly for the carers benefit.
•   More worryingly long periods of time can elapse without seeing a visible member of care staff managing the main room leaving the residents to roam around without any supervision whatsoever.


The above has not always been the case and hopefully, the place will resume to the higher standard previously experienced. I am hoping sooner rather than later I will post a more positive review.

Da has now been in care coming up to two years. Being in care is the only option for him. It's not what we would have wanted, but life makes it that way. As carers, we as a family have found Each Step to be an honest, open and transparent group, who do the best that can be done with a difficult to manage
