Ashbourne House is an outstanding residential care home. Our Uncle spent 7 happy months here. He was extremely worried about moving into a home but we couldn't have asked for more. He settled in easily and after a couple of weeks, he thought he had been there for years! The manager and all the staff
are very friendly, kind, caring and helpful and made him feel so welcome and safe, he was well looked after and cared for. The food was marvellous, freshly cooked every day and he had a good varied diet, he was extremely happy. The rooms are all very welcoming, clean, and comfortable and it has a lovely homely atmosphere. It was a great comfort to know he was safe, happy, and being well looked after.
We highly recommend Ashbourne House.
Thank you, to you all.

Ashbourne House is an amazing home. The house itself is a double Victorian residence, I won’t say home I feel for my gran and other residents that’s how it feels. It’s very comfortable and welcoming the staff are amazing they are there for all the residents' needs no matter what level of care they need.
The owners and manager are also very hands-on with the care and well-being of the residents. They have very comfortable lounges to sit in a nice dining room where the food is cooked fresh every day with a varied menu on offer from the wonderful in-house chef. The home is well maintained as well as a lovely garden for the residents and visitors to sit out in. Refreshments and biscuits are always available for residents and visitors. The rooms are very comfortable with all amenities available to them. They also have regular programs of entertainment for the residents. The staff and managers are a credit to this wonderful care home. My gran is very happy here.

Thank you for your lovely review.
It is always encouraging to myself and our staff when the loved ones of the people we care for take the time to feedback on their thoughts on our home.
I am very proud of our home and as a family, we have strived over the last 35 years to make Ashbourne House a home for the elderly, when our residents and friends and relatives truly feel that this is home well then we feel as if we are achieving our goal, thank you.

Outstanding care home! A really kind, caring and helpful manager and staff. Residents are cared for in a very comfortable homely environment. Very happy atmosphere! Recently our friend had a 90th birthday celebration and the management and staff could not have done more to enable us to share her special
day with her. They put up decorations and provided a delicious buffet for her guests and made it a day to remember. Thank you to the manager and his excellent team.

During the pandemic one of my clients suffered a fall and was admitted to hospital, after which she was unable to return home. Ashbourne House was located near where she lived and seemed an ideal match. From my first conversations with the owner, it was apparent that they went 'above and beyond' to
meet her needs.
They facilitated my client's admission during challenging times and set up Covid safe visiting arrangements ensuring that safety was coupled with people's needs for human contact. Throughout my experience with the home, the manager and all the team were caring, compassionate and understanding. They were always cheerful and provided excellent person-centred care.
Sadly my client died recently and I can say unreservedly that her years at Ashbourne House enhanced her later life.

Mum moved into Ashbourne House in 2019, when she was unable to live independently. I had previously visited the home which offers a warm, caring, homely, professional environment so the decision was not difficult. The manager and the team now look after her every needs. To Mum, it’s known as ‘the Hotel’
offering delicious food, cosy rooms, with a variety of activities. Pampering, concerts, keep fit, birthdays, and quizzes - always something for the body and mind. The enclosed sunny rear garden and terrace are ideal for socialising and now complemented by the Summerhouse. The Jubilee Party provided by the staff was a great success enjoyed by residents and visitors, with music, decorations and lovely food and drinks. Visitors are always welcome to the Ashbourne family. The manager keeps us all updated with a regular Newsletter. During covid, this was particularly appreciated and with sound judgement and hard work, kept our loved ones safe. Thank you to the manager and every one of the staff team.

Superb care all round. From the moment mum and I met the manager and the team we knew this was the right place for mum. Throughout her 2-year stay, mum was well cared for, and all the staff were very kind and helpful. The pandemic was a difficult time for us all and the manager and the team made incredible
personal and professional efforts to keep up the highest standards of care and safe visiting methods throughout this time. The staff have a great blend of professionalism and understanding and a healthy sense of humour. On a practical note, the rooms are pleasant, the garden is superb and enjoyed by all, and the food was always tasty and tailored to the residents as their needs changed. The pandemic had ruled out the usual entertainers, and recreational visitors, but the team made sure every effort was made to have activities and celebrate events. Personally, there were difficult times and I spoke often to the staff and they were always deeply helpful. Recommended 100%.

My Mum has been in the care of the Team at Ashbourne House for over 3 years now and we have been delighted with the support and care that she has been afforded. This is a privately owned, relatively small home that gives personal attention and care to its residents including doing a brilliant job keeping
them safe through COVID. They are always looking for activities to keep the residents active and engaged with themed events and celebrations. My Mum is very happy at Ashbourne and at 96 still retains an appetite for company and enjoyment which is a testament to the environment that Ashbourne create.

Our Antie needed a helping hand, it was her turn to be looked after, as she had become frail, after being an independent social butterfly all her life. I cannot praise Ashbourne House enough for their kindness, patience, and being on the ball with Antie's health issues and care she has settled in wonderfully
and now sees Ashbourne House as her home, her words “the girls are so kind and patient, the manager does a wonderful job I can’t praise him enough I’m so grateful, the food is homemade and the chef can’t do enough for us all“. She has a lovely room at the front of the house, love to all the staff at Ashbourne House you have given us peace of mind and our Antie a forever home.

My family and I cannot recommend Ashbourne House highly enough to anyone who is involved in the difficult process of seeking residential care for a loved one. My mum has been at Ashbourne since 2019 and we are so happy with the care she has received. During lockdown, the staff went out of their way
to keep families in contact (Skype, window visits and eventually garden and summer house visits). The manager and staff keep us informed of any GP visits or changes and as a result we are regularly reassured about mum’s health and wellbeing. Mum herself tells us constantly how lovely all the staff are, how wonderful the food is and refers to Ashbourne now as “home”. The staff are kind, thoughtful and welcoming, as well as being compassionate and professional in their care of the people there.

Had a lovely day on Jubilee Saturday.
My Aunty looked so well and was really in the party spirit.
Lovely place with lovely, kind, and knowledgeable staff. It was nice to see all residents together outside in the fresh air having sun, fun, and delicious food (compliments to the chef).
Can’t comment
on facilities, cleanliness, and rooms as not seen inside.

I would highly recommend Ashbourne House to anyone who is in the process of looking for residential care for their loved one. My Mum lived at Ashbourne House for 2 yrs until her death (age 96) in March 2022. Lockdown arrived shortly after Mum settled in so no visiting but phone, Skype and any other
means of communication was put in place in order to keep in contact. Window & garden visits shortly followed. The Manager and Staff are caring in a professional manner but mixed with humour, compassion, patience, respect and dedication. The manager goes over and above the call of duty to support his residents and their well-being. “This is their home” he would say. All the staff I came into contact with were just so lovely. Our family always felt welcome and comfortable when discussing mums care. Mum loved food and Ashbourne catered superbly. Mum felt content and safe with the care and attention she received, which gave us peace of mind. Thank You Ashbourne House.

My Dad received excellent care from the team at Ashbourne House. The home has a homely feel to it and a friendliness which helped my Dad feel comfortable throughout his stay. He used to love sitting on the patio area and experience the beautiful well kept gardens. He enjoyed both the privacy
of his own room and the communal eating and activities, which were regularly organised. Thankfully the management were successful in keeping Covid out of the home throughout the Pandemic and they were able to coordinate an in-house vaccination rollout very early in, which no doubt saved many lives. My Dad also was supplied with his own vegetable area. I felt all residents were cared for and respected.

Ashbourne House and its staff have been a Godsend for my father-in-law, his daughter and myself. Clean, spacious, comfortable house and garden, great food, great care and kindness, compassion rarely found in this world. The last 8 months of my father-in-law's life were transformed by the staff of Ashbourne
and it has given him dignity. He died aged 98 peacefully after suffering inoperable bowel cancer. Thank you Ashbourne!

My Mum has recently had to move from Ashbourne House to a nursing home. During her time at Ashbourne House she was very happy. She always commented that the staff were lovely and that she was extremely happy there. I always felt that my Mum was in safe hands as the care and support the staff gave my
Mum was wonderful. The manager kept me well informed of any GP visits that Mum required and was always at the end of the phone to answer any queries I might have. The atmosphere at Ashbourne House is warm and welcoming and the staff always greet you with a smile. I am so pleased that my Mum was able to spend time here.

My mum has been here four months now, long enough for her to settle and to confirm our good first impressions. She tells me that all the staff are very kind and helpful and that she is impressed by how clean the home is. As another reviewer said, it only ever smells (appetisingly) when cooking's on
the go and mum likes the food; she is only surprised by how often and how much is offered.

I have found that liaison between the home and health professionals including opticians is excellent. I feel welcome when I visit and kept very well informed about any significant matters about mum's daily routine. Above all, mum is happy there and I'm happy that she is safe and well looked after.

We recently moved our beloved mum into this wonderful home. Obviously, we were all (especially Mum) nervous and extremely worried about such an enormous change of lifestyle, surroundings and routine.

Everything promised by the wonderful family who managed this wonderful, caring establishment

was delivered and more, much more.

Our lives have been enriched by this wonderful experience, instead of it being a depressing and soul destroying journey.......everyone at Ashbourne House has made this a truly joyous adventure that we as a family are embracing and hoping will not end for a long, long time.

So many many thanks to one and all Ashbourne House, which we now all call HOME.

Our beloved Mum is happy, motivated and content again after the exceptional Staff, outstanding Management and lovely residents worked their magic on her. Before entering this beautiful establishment, which we as a family now call home - she had been like a flower that no matter what plant food was
used or how often you tended to it, was withering away.

However, the lovely staff have got that special magic that can revive anyone who basically has started to fade no matter how much the family do. Our Mum in a short time is back to her old amusing ways. So, for now, there is no reason as we have got this wonderful support in place, that with all the love and care engulfing her on a daily basis for her not to be here on her 100th receiving the Queen's telegraph.

If only Jeremy Hunt and the NHS could copy the care, warmth and atmosphere created at Ashbourne House, our golden girls and boys would all have a beautiful journey during a time that is not always so pleasant.

I have found everybody from management to care staff brilliant, nothing is too much trouble. Even the other residents are lovely. They all look so comfortable, including my mum who has settled so well with all their care. My mum had a problem with going to bed but the carers found a way of dealing with
this and I am very pleased with how they handled this matter so happy with everything.

Mum recently moved into this establishment, and I can honestly say the staff, management and other residents settled her in brilliantly. Although there was a few "teething problems" to begin with, mum is now very happy with where she is living, she enjoys the food that is presented to her and enjoys
choosing from the menu. It gives me and the rest of my family peace of mind to know mum is well looked after and above all else she is very happy. I am so pleased with Ashbourne House, and so is mum.

We have sadly just lost our lovely 91 year old Mum who spent the last 2 plus years of her life at Ashbourne House. I cannot praise the Management and the staff enough for their dedication and care whilst mum was a resident. She was introduced and well assisted to settle in and adjust to residential
care having lived independently until she could no longer manage. The staff were patient and understanding of her frustrations and a warm respectful bond was formed. The care home and mums room were always immaculately clean and only ever smelled of delicious dinner! The food was fabulous, mums appetite improved and she always commented how lovely the meals were. Individual tastes and preferences were catered for. The dining room is a pleasant and welcoming room overlooking the beautiful garden.
Although mum generally didn't always want to join in the social activities, she was encouraged and the atmosphere was inclusive but not forced. The staff work very hard to keep the residents occupied in interesting and fulfilling activities. Sing songs, parties, canal trips, knitting, keep moving activities.
Staffing levels were always adequate and there are many long term staff, mum felt safe, the staff were kind and compassionate. The manager in particular would always go over and above the call of duty to support his residents, liaising closely with Gp's, hospital appointments and pharmacy as needed. The District nurses have a good relationship with the manager.
Families are welcome to visit as and when and always made to feel welcome and comfortable discussing relatives care. There is a lovely lounge for visitors and tea/coffee making facilities available. Our mum became very frail and required end of life care, we cannot thank everyone enough for the care she received.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.245)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.245) out of 10 for Ashbourne House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Ashbourne House is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.245 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbourne House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.6 = 0.87

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
