Mum had been in Barley Brook now for coming on for 3 years! She has settled very well and has a few friends she spends most of the days with. The staff are all very welcoming, helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble! I have met the manager a few times who has always listened to my thoughts
and taken action straight away if there was any concern. As for the activities, well they are always doing day-to-day activities from bingo, knitting, singing and when there are special events coming up like Christmas, Easter, sporting events they are always getting everyone involved and decorating the rooms accordingly. I can honestly say this is such a welcoming and happy environment and I’m so happy my mum is happy. Well done Barley Brook.

If I could rate this '0' I would do. My aunty spent three months at this home. The decline in her health and wellbeing during this time has been dramatic.
The cleanliness of the property is lacking, from juice jugs left on a high shelf with no lids, to residents' incontinence issues being left to cause
issues for other residents, staff and visitors even after being notified. Residents' rooms being used as storage facilities for other residents' wheelchairs.
Residents are not stimulated.
This list is endless. I fear for the residents and future residents!
This has caused myself and other family members great distress.

My wife who has Alzheimer's went in for a week's respite having had an assessment by the management who assured me they could manage her condition. They contacted me on two evenings to go up as she was agitated and would not take her medication; a family member attended on both occasions.
I was telephoned
at 10pm on the fifth night to inform me an ambulance had been sent for as my wife had had an accident. On attending my wife had a large lump on her head and blood matted in her hair. I was informed by a carer that she had entered the laundry through an unlocked door and climbed out through an open low-level window and had fallen heavily.
The nurse in charge was in another room showing little or no concern and the manager could not be contacted. I haven't had any response from the care home.

Current Review Score: 5.8 (5.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 5.8 (5.797) out of 10 for Barley Brook Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 2.6 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 2.618 for Barley Brook Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 2.618

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.179 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barley Brook Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.179

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
