Every single carer at Norley Hall Care Home are absolutely amazing. They all do an incredible job looking after our loved ones.
Communication from management (including the deputy), however has been appalling.
At a time when your loved one needs to belong, with care and support of those they trust,
for them to be rejected without even a moments consultation with family is unforgivable.

Reply from Kathryn Rimmer, Registered Manager at Norley Hall Care Home

Thank you for your review, I will pass your kind comments on to our dedicated care team. I am sorry that your experience has not been a positive one and decisions regarding safe transfers back to the home are always done in the best interest of the residents and staff team.I apologise you do feel that the communication with management was not adequate, whilst you were on holiday, I can assure you that information and outcomes regarding your loved one was discussed with the relevant professionals, the hospital team, social worker and with granddaughter in your absence. We do hope that you are successful in securing a future placement and everything works out well for your mother and you. Thank you for taking the time to complete the review, we take all comments both positive and negative as a learning opportunity and appreciate your opinions. Kindest regards

My brother has been a resident for the last 6 months and in this time he has been very well cared for. From management to staff I couldn't ask for anything more. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff whilst looking after him. Norley Hall has given me the chance to be a sister to my brother and not
his carer. Thank you to you all from the bottom of my heart for caring for my brother. I can't thank you enough.

Reply from Kathryn Rimmer, Registered Manager at Norley Hall Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind review, we strive to support families as well as the residents who live with us at Norley Hall, I am so pleased that you feel you have the freedom to experience quality visits with your brother now and are happy with the care that he receives. We really appreciated the welcoming environment, in particular, the professional staff were supportive, capable, confident and worked with both residents and relatives. They gave stimulating, reassuring and respect which was patient-centred. They have helped with dressing, washing and hygiene issues/personal
needs. Tremendous responses to the needs of all around. Food is scrumptious and ample. The activities are age-appropriate, daily, positive social interactions. I fully endorse the care home!

The best care home that I visited in Wigan. It is absolutely spotless. The staff are very caring, and there is lots of interaction and encouragement given to my mother-in-law. She had settled in well in the last 5-months. It’s a home-from-home.

Mum has been in Norley Hall since December 2022. She has settled in really well. The staff are lovely and helpful and make me feel really welcome when I visit which is most days. The new activity lady is lovely and keeps the residents active. She's not too keen on the food, it's hit and miss. I am really
happy with the care she's receiving and changing doctors has been really good as well. Overall I am really happy with Norley Hall.

We called to ask if our Mum could be ready to be picked up to be taken to a family party, when we picked her up the staff had given mum a shower, put her in some nice clothes and even did her hair, we always feel that our mum is in a kind and caring environment that really puts our mind at rest. Thank
you Norley Hall staff you're all very appreciated.

Since they had to stay in their rooms for a few days owing to an outbreak of respiratory infections this has really upset my mum. She has found it difficult to settle in an evening and has at times been very confused. The carers have been excellent in dealing with her and calming her down. The manager
has also spoken to me and put my mind at ease.
Mum has enjoyed all the activities they have had and enjoys taking part.

I would like to thank all staff that helped to make a great day for my mother on Saturday 21st January on her 95th Birthday, also the ukulele band for a fantastic session playing songs to all residents. All staff helped us arranging chairs for the band members, that's why we always feel at home here
nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they always go that extra mile to help. Thank you from my family.

After having an operation myself I was unable to visit mum. The carers knew this and took even greater care to make sure she was OK. They helped her to contact me on her mobile phone which she often struggles with. Mum often gets a little confused in the early evenings but they are very good at calming
her down.
When my husband and daughter took her back to Norley Hall on Christmas day mum said it is home from home.

My grandma is so settled in her hotel she calls it, food is brilliant and the staff lovely. Each time I visit her the friendly faces greet me, and the happiness of the residents shines through. We as a family wanted grandma to feel loved, welcomed and safe in her surroundings and Norley has all of this.
The decoration throughout the care home is beautiful making residents feel comfortable . Great place to allow the family to feel at peace that grandma's needs are being met. Thankyou all.

My mum has been a resident here for over six years. During this time she has had excellent care. The staff and management are caring, attentive and genuinely supportive with all our family. Unfortunately, mum has been bed bound for the last couple of years, but is looked after with the utmost care and
affection. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Norley Hall Care Home to anyone.

My mum has been in Norley Hall Care Home for five years. What a lovely place, spotlessly clean, with none of the usual smells when you walk in. The staff are brilliant, I've come to know every one of them and they treat my mum and every other person like their own family. They are properly trained carers
and you can tell. The management are first class and very hands-on and approachable. 10 out of 10 without a doubt.

Been really happy with Norley but recently not so much. They seem to be short-staffed quite often. There no longer seems to be many activities going on and a lack of stimulation is causing my parent to go downhill. Just free or cheap things like bingo, beetle drive, dominoes, cards, etc would be good.
Sing-alongs, armchair exercises, stretches, balloon passing, all kinds of possibilities to keep them occupied.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.852)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.852) out of 10 for Norley Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.675 for Norley Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.675

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norley Hall Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Kathryn Rimmer

Job Title: Manager

I have been in the health and social care sector for over 30 years now, starting out as a young care assistant at just the age of 19.

It was while working with dementia residents, especially that I found my calling and knew that this was what I wanted to do.

From assistant cook to carer to senior, I worked as a theatre assistant in the hospital environment also, working my way up to home manager almost 8 years ago.

I have achieved all NVQs in health and social care from 2 to 4 and up to a Diploma level 5 in Leadership and Management.

I am a very interactive manager and love nothing better than to sit and chat with each of the residents that we care for at Norley Hall. My aim is that each and every one of them feels like part of our family.

I am cheerful and positive and lead by example, to deliver the highest standard of care possible.

I believe that quality activities and interactions are as important as eating, drinking and sleeping. If we get this right then we can be sure that our residents will have the quality of life that they expect.

Kindness is contagious……. let’s share the kindness bug.
