Avalon is well run with friendly staff who, along with management, give great support for all the family who, in turn, find themselves with extra members. Staff members convey the feeling that they feel like they are working in their residents' home and not in a work place. They show great care and
patience. As well as giving high standards and understanding of residents' frustrations and the conditions of the illnesses they have.

The care staff are exceptional and nothing is too much trouble. They always ensure that the dignity of the service user is of utmost importance. The care my dad received especially in the last few weeks of his life was second to none. My family will always be grateful to all the staff at Avalon.

A family member was staying here and I found the staff to very caring and compassionate.
The management team are very helpful and honest and kept me up to date regularly. Nothing is too much and I've always been made to feel welcome.

On every visit, there was a member of staff available who kept

me up to date on my family member.

My relative feels comfortable and at home. He also enjoys the regular activities and outings that the home has provided for him.

I believe this home is the best home I have come across and would recommend to anyone who is looking for care for their relative.

My mother has been in the home for 2 1/2 years. I find the staff friendly and caring.

There has been a large turnover of staff which affects my mum as experienced staff know how to care for her better.

I would like the activities to be better structured.

Mum was a resident of Avalon for only three and a half months during that period her condition deteriorated rapidly and the last 10 days were on end of life care. Throughout her time their mum was treated with dignity and respect. The care staff were patient and caring individuals. Those attending her
during the end of life care were particularly special.

I have always found the staff to be very friendly attentive and patient with visitors and residents and have never had a problem contacting the management if I had a problem with anything.

If there are any health issues they are on it straight away which gives me peace of mind. If I thought there

was any problem with the home my mum would not be there as it is 9 times out of 10 when visiting here she always has a smell and is very happy.

As Lasting Power of Attorney to my dear friend and responsible for his health and wellbeing, I was happy to appoint Avalon as his caregiver. He was at Avalon for more than 4 years (now deceased) and I visited regularly during that time. I saw first-hand the care and attention given to all residents
suffering from serious dementia issues. The staff and management were so kind and helpful to residents and family and friends. Highly recommend Avalon Care Home.

Both my Mother and Father suffered from dementia, and both permanently resided at Avalon. Their health and wellbeing was of paramount importance to me, I visited them daily and spent at least an hour, often longer, chatting with the residents and staff. I saw some of the staff more often than others,
and formed a real bond with some of them. In my opinion Avalon is unique, management and staff understand that “one size does not fit all”. Each and every resident in Avalon is different, including my own parents, each resident has their own special needs which Avalon are always striving to meet. My Mum and Dad were happy, they considered Avalon their home. There is nothing I would have changed about the level of care in Avalon, the manager is always striving to improve and to be the best, dementia residents and their families need people like her and her unique insight into the staff she employs to provide the love and care for those who don’t have someone like me to fight for them.

My Husband was a resident in Avalon Care Home for 14 months, and in that time he had the best care which would have been had to better in any other care home. Even when difficult decisions had to be made mainly regarding his eating habits they couldn't have been more helpful and caring. In fact, the
care he received never waned, it was the same from the beginning to the end when my Husband died from pneumonia in hospital on 24th May. Also, we were able to visit at anytime day or night and we were made to feel part of an extended family and became friends with the carers. I couldn't recommend Avalon Care Home strongly enough!

My husband was a resident for 3 months. It became clear due to his behaviour he needed a more specialised home. The management and staff during this difficult time were outstanding both to myself and my husband. I was so sad his stay there ended. The staff even visited my husband whilst he was reassessed.

My stepfather has been in Avalon eighteen months now and I would recommend this home.
He recently had his leg amputated and was in hospital. Staff went out of their way to visit him and the care he has received has been fantastic.
The staff and management are amazing and very caring.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.271)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.271) out of 10 for Avalon Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.444 for Avalon Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.444

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.827 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avalon Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.2 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
