When viewing the home we were shown a room which we really liked and was advised was free. When being admitted, my relative was given a different room which was not as nice and requires painting urgently. We were not advised until we visited that the room had been changed.

Reply from Alison Humphries, Manager at Thomas Henshaw Court

Thank you for taking the time to review Thomas Henshaw Court and we are pleased that you rate our care/support as very good. We discussed the preference of room with your relative and they chose a different room, which they felt was better suited to their care requirements. We have recently taken our family member to Thomas Henshaw Court for four weeks respite. The staff have been very kind to all of the family, they have provided reassurance and have been extremely flexible in meeting her needs. We very much hope she will be able to stay there permanently.

On entering, the staff are very friendly and welcoming to me, also they engage with residents one to one on a daily basis. They are caring, genuine, hard-working staff, always have a smile too. Nothing is too much trouble. Room for Dad is kept clean and clothes washed regularly, food is excellent and
always smells good. Any queries I have are always answered helpfully by the office staff. Overall happy for my dad to be living at Thomas Henshaw Court and he is happy too.

My mother has settled in well, thanks in main to the lovely staff there. She feels safe and secure and knows she made the right choice. We are happy with her accommodation but would be happier if it was renovated, decoration and a newer carpet. It looks quite shabby in places.

Reply from Alison Humphries, Home Manager at Thomas Henshaw Court

It's wonderful to know that she feels safe and secure, and that our staff have helped to ensure this. Thank you for your point about decorations. My mum joined the care home in January. Since moving in, she has settled in well. The staff are friendly and very supportive of her and acknowledge her needs. Her room is lovely and spacious and she particularly likes it as she can entertain visitors regularly. In February there was a Covid outbreak,
so there weren't many activities taking place which was disappointing but understandable. The food is excellent with plenty of choice. Mum really enjoys meal times!

I find the staff at Thomas Henshaw Court Care Home to be friendly and helpful and work to ensure the safety of my mum, when things do go off plan, I found they do what they can to correct it. The main plus is knowing she has assistance on hand if required 24/7.

The manager and the team can't do enough for Mum. The care and compassion for the residents is second to none. The home is well decorated, the rooms are very comfortable and large as well as being spotlessly clean. I can't recommend Thomas Henshaw Court Care Home highly enough.

I think the standard has gone down over the last years at the home. I realise staffing is a problem.

My sister and I are delighted with the care that Thomas Henshaw Court staff have given to our mother since she joined them two months ago. She has plenty of support and mental stimulation, with easy access to a lovely lounge and pretty garden. The care home is clean, the food is excellent and, above
all, all the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. She described Thomas Henshaw Court as smashing!

I'm happy with the level of care provided to my father. The staff are excellent - very caring and friendly. His room is always clean, as are his clothes. The food is of a high standard.
There is also a good social element. It's comforting to know he is not socially isolated.

My father has recently been off-colour - the care my father has received from all staff at Thomas Henshaw has been outstanding. Not only do they act professionally, they give care with kindness. All the staff are so lovely with my dad (and myself). I'm so glad I chose Thomas Henshaw for him.

Mum moved into Thomas Henshaw Court in August 2021, initially for respite, then on a permanent basis. We are very pleased with the kindness and high standards of care that Mum has received from all staff. The home has faced many challenges with Covid, we have been supported to maintain our close relationships
with Mum via a portal, phone calls and safe visits. Mum says the food is very good; she loves the size and aspects of her room with a kitchenette to make herself a drink or snack. Thomas Henshaw Court has a feeling of warmth, kindness and compassion, always has a "buzz" about it. There are regular checks by staff throughout the day to bring Mum a cuppa, remind her to go down for meals, draw the curtain in the late afternoon, often just to say hello. Mum has participated in cake baking; she has enjoyed dancing, singing with the lovely musical couple who have recommenced their special afternoons. Mum was delighted to go on a trip out to the lights with a fish and chip supper. As a family, we are very happy and grateful that Mum is supported to maintain as much of her independence as possible in a safe and caring environment.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.763)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.763) out of 10 for Thomas Henshaw Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.481 for Thomas Henshaw Court is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 79 Ratings = 4.481

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.282 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thomas Henshaw Court is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
