Marina Care Home is nestled between Southport Golf Club and Marine Drive, benefiting from idyllic ocean views.

The home is located within beautifully maintained front gardens and a private landscaped rear garden.

The team believes in a truly person-centred approach and works with residents, along with their families and friends, to determine their distinct needs and preferences. Instead of making assumptions about a person's required care or implementing a generic care plan, the team customises their care plans and approach to meet the needs of each resident, ensuring that they address physical, emotional, and social requirements of every resident, and promote a feeling of wellness and inclusion.

They also understand the decision of residential care can be emotional. Marina Care Home offers a nurturing setting where you, or your loved one, have peace of mind that the 24-hour care is person-centred and highly rated. Marina strongly believes in the importance of staying connected to family and hobbies within the community and this is achieved through the Activities and Wellbeing program

Right on the home's doorstep is:

Beautiful Marine Lake
Bus route into Southport
Coastal Location for beach days

My father became a resident with dementia and my mother followed to be with him. We knew they were being well cared for, as my mother used to tell us but we didn't realise how much until my father received end of life care. We spent some time there with him and was so impressed that many of the staff
would come back in after work and visit him and also call all hours how he was. Also, the stories they told us about him could have only come from him which we thought was beyond his communication ability. It was very humbling that the staff knew him and communicated better than ourselves, but also very comforting. Thank you to the staff for their professional and personal efforts.

The staff are so caring and nothing is too much trouble. They show the residents genuine care and love no matter what time of day you go, this is what elderly people need at this time of life. In my opinion, I can find no fault with Marina Care Home.

I have been to visit my relative in the home on many occasions. I have found the staff to be polite and respectful at all times. When I visit the home I am always greeted with a smile and the residents always look happy and content. The staff show great dedication to their work. The décor is of a high
standard and always looks clean and tidy. I am offered to have a meal with my relative when I visit. The home has a good array of activities from chair exercises to singers.

My mother in law was a resident at Marina for a year. They have been absolutely wonderful to her throughout her stay.
The Manager and Operations Deputy Manager and all the staff work extremely hard to provide truly individualised care.
My relative sadly died this week. The staff were fully supportive
of her wishes to end her life back at Marina and provided one to one care 24/7 until she passed away.
We have felt truly supported by the Manager and Operations Deputy Manager
- they cared for our relative so very compassionately.

After a terrible time at another home, dad came here and we were slightly apprehensive after our previous experience. We had no need, as the staff at Marina Care Home welcomed him with open arms. They took time to understand him and he thrived here. He had a great last 6 months in a clean, happy place
and thoroughly enjoyed his time in his room, the communal lounge and of course, the garden! The staff cared for him as if he was their own father. During dad’s last weeks they helped him and us with the utmost care and attention. I can’t praise the manager and all the staff enough for the 100% effort they put into looking after the residents in their care and their visitors!!

My father was at Marina Nursing Home from May-November 2017 and he had the best care from all of the staff. He sadly passed away on November 14th and I can't fault the staff from day one to that sad day. They were the reason I spent my father's final 12 hours with him as they kept in contact with the
family and kept us updated. We know that dad was comfortable and he felt at home. 2017 was a horrible year for the family but the staff always made us feel welcome and we witnessed such wonderful care and attention. I tried to visit every day and I never felt I was in the way no matter what time I went. They were so kind to me on my 'sad days' when I found the whole scenario so awful as he had deteriorated so much due to his illness.
I would highly recommend this nursing home if you are in the sad position of having to put a loved one in a home, you just don't know what you are letting yourself in for and worry about the right place for your family member so I hope this review helps.

Visiting my neighbours the first time distressed me, to see the extent of how Alzheimer's affects people. My neighbours were not so poorly and I felt a quieter place would have been better. However, I changed my mind on the second visit, as they were in a beautiful dining room, it was quiet and they
were settled in. The staff were brilliant with them, caring and considerate and my neighbours walked me to the gate (they were being watched of course) but the staff allowed them their dignity to do this, which pleased them very much. I feel sure they will ask for respite at Marina again.

My father moved to the care home after a short stay in hospital after a fall at home, he has early signs of dementia and recently advised he is now terminally ill.

All the staff at Marina have provided dad with a high standard of care and treat him with dignity and respect at all times.

As a family

we would prefer him not to be in care, however, Marina Care Home is the best place for him.

This home was recently taken over by new management (Care Quality Commission). Has certainly improved. Would like to make further comments in six months.

I came here from hospital after a fall and an infection. I was visited by the manager in hospital and was asked if I would consider staying at the home, I was asked lots of questions regarding my care. I have been in the home for 3 weeks. Staff have cared for me, I am walking, and have enjoyed my stay
and am feeling better.

In the 2 years I have been here I was only fairly happy, but after a recent change in management I am now very happy with every change that has been made. My family remarked the difference in me - and the warm atmosphere in the home.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.385)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.385) out of 10 for Marina Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.957 for Marina Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (22 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.957

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.428 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Marina Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.303

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I love working in the care sector. I found my passion for care when I was 18 and never looked back. I enjoy every day at Marina and look forward to leading the home into a bright future.

I joined Marina Care in September 2019 after working within the legal industry for the last 17 years. In February 2019 I became a qualified accountant having studied in my spare time for the qualification. Coming to work at Marina was a big change for me but I was ready for a new challenge, it has been so rewarding and so worthwhile that I have definitely made the correct decision.
