Woodlands is a home in the true sense of the word; warm, comfortable and welcoming. Professionals pride themselves on the quality of the care and surroundings they provide and on attention to details – it’s the little things that matter.

In reflection of this, Woodlands Manor receives GSF (Gold Standard Framework) award accreditation in September 2017, achieving a Commend status in giving end of life care.

The owners have arranged the home to make it interesting, varied, surprising and stimulating. Woodlands has many original features you would expect to see from properties built around the 1900s and mixes theses with an exciting and progressive specialist dementia environment.

The communal areas of the home are themed; allowing residents to relax with others and join in various activities, where dedicated staff are on hand to assist with their individual needs. They have a 1950s reminiscence room with original features of TV, telephone, furniture and gramophone. There is also a light and airy garden room and family room. Woodlands know the importance of providing varied and interesting daily activities for residents to promote well-being and purpose.

My Mum had been a resident at Woodlands Manor for over 5 years until she sadly passed away in January. Over that time my brother and I have been impressed with the care given by the manager and the other staff. They really do try to make residents feel that Woodlands is their home and the staff are
part of their family. All we can say now is 'Thank you so much'.

My sister-in-law has been a resident at Woodlands Manor for approximately six months now. She was initially placed there because she was having difficulty living on her own. At first, she found it difficult to settle in there. But, as the time passed by, she is now more contented and happier to be there.
That is down to the dutiful care and attention all the staff have given her whilst she has been there. This has come as a surprise to my wife and I as she has always been a fiercely independent person. No praise is too high for the staff at Woodlands Manor. None more so than the manager who is totally dedicated to ensuring the residents are treated to the highest standards of safeguarding and personal welfare.

Dad has only been at Woodlands for a couple of months but he has been welcomed completely and has settled in very well. He seems happy to be at Woodlands, and is well looked after. He complains that there is too much food to eat, which is a first! The manager has gone out of her way to ensure that Dad
receives all the care and attention that he needs. This was especially evident as my dad had a safeguarding issue in place when he first arrived at Woodlands, and the manager ensured that the safeguarding plan was maintained. I can't tell you how much peace of mind this gave the family. My mum is in a care home nearby which belongs to the same group. The manager and her team escort my dad to visit her each week, which is really lovely and much appreciated by the whole family. Thanks Manager and the whole team at Woodlands.

I was recently contacted by the care home manager to arrange a meeting to discuss Nan's current care needs. The meeting went really well and we were able to prioritise Nan's needs and work out objectives to make sure Nan remains fit and healthy. The care home has also been great at informing me of upcoming
hospital appointments and arranging travel and a carer to attend the appointments with my Nan. This leaves me not having to worry about taking time away from work to attend hospital appointments. Nan remains happy and content in the home and I am more than happy with the efforts that the team always go to to meet my nan's needs. It was really nice to see that the seating area outside the manager's office has been so nicely decorated for the residents. It is so bright and colourful and a lovely place for Nan to sit and socialise.

On Wednesday afternoon, the 17th of July 2024 I drove down to Woodland Manor to celebrate my wife's seventy-eighth birthday. On entering the care home I observed that there was no sign of any birthday celebration preparations. We were then approached by the deputy manager who made enquiries about our
birthday party preferences and wishes for her birthday celebration. And we elected to have it in the kitchen room at three o'clock.
I entered the kitchen alone to make a cup of coffee for her and found the staff extremely busy setting out a large white tablecloth; with a huge birthday cake in the centre of the table. With my wife's name in wonderful pink icing. All the staff were busy putting birthday decorations around the room. They were working hard, doing a wonderful job making a 'my wife's style' birthday party celebrations. The cook entered the room and enquired if the cake with the pink-iced name of my wife upon it was okay? Which it was! A marvellous cake of a large, square design and covered with birthday candles.
I got my wife settled in the kitchen and sitting at the head of the large table. The deputy manager lit all the candles on the birthday cake. And with a little more effort got my reluctant and confused wife to blow out the candles and make a birthday wish, wish a helping 'puff and blow' of directed breath from myself.
All the residents and staff sang happy birthday to her, raising their glasses to toast her on her seventy-eighth birthday. Assistant manager produced a large, decorate knife for my wife to cut her birthday cake, which she did with some assistance from me. It then became too noisy for her and she became confused and distraught then standing up from her chair, she made movement to leave the room and birthday party.
I took her into the quiet dining room to get her settled leaving the staff and residents in the kitchen room to cut, distribute and eat the birthday cake and enjoy the birthday party.
The home manager walked into the dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, and also to present her with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the care home staff. A member of staff brought three portions of birthday cake into the dining room for us to eat. We sang happy birthday to her before and after eating our slice of birthday cake and she slowly recovered her good humour.
I cannot thank enough; the Woodland Manor care staff, the deputy manager whose attention to detail and who organised and controlled the attentive staff, the senior cook who made such a wonderful birthday cake, and who then enquired if it was satisfactory, which of course in was for the proof was in the eating of the birthday cake, for not a crumb remained on the empty plate. Also the home manger who walked into the empty dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, for my wife suffers from vascular dementia, becomes confused and overwhelmed during noisy events. Then in the quiet of the dining room, gaining her full attention, the manager presented my wife with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the staff of Woodland Manor. It was a wonderful day and a marvellous birthday party, under the difficult condition due to her poor mental health, all made possible by all the staff of Woodland Manor. Thank you all.

I have no complaints at all, in fact only praise. I know my mum is in the best place and I don't have to worry about her. The staff are lovely and the management are so efficient and are professional in all they do.

My wife who has dementia is very happy here. She loves the staff and has made friends with some of the other residents. I think the staff are particularly good, very caring and consistent. The food is excellent and my wife particularly likes the lovely garden and the patio at the home.

The manager and all staff are caring, compassionate and empathetic towards every resident and their individual needs with dignity within the home.
It’s always clean and excellent meals and healthy snacks are always available for residents and visitors alike.
They always have lots of activities going
on where everyone can join in which is fun. Leading up to Christmas is the most poignant time when a candle is lit for all residents lost that particular year and they are remembered.
When looking for care for my mum this home found us instead of the other way round. Truly excellent, I wouldn’t have my mum anywhere else.

From the moment my daughter and I walked in, we knew it was the right place for my husband. The manager and all the staff were very kind and welcoming. The care given to my husband was outstanding in every respect. We were able to visit/ring at any time and the manager always made herself available.
The care was not only for my husband but for all of us, especially me.
My husband died a few weeks ago. The end-of-life care provided meant that his passing was very calm and peaceful. He had everything that was needed. Our needs were taken care of too. We were consulted/kept informed throughout. It might seem a small thing, but even the regular provision of tea, biscuits and freshly made sandwiches meant a lot. It enabled us as a family to concentrate on my husband.

My uncle attends as a day care user, he really enjoys coming. The home is clean, the staff are friendly and the standard of care appears to be excellent. The manager arranges lots of different events for the residents and their families to enjoy.

I chose Woodlands for respite as it was clean, fresh, happy residents and had lots of activities going on. Both the manager and the deputy were attentive and went the extra mile during the initial settling-in period. No matter the visiting time, residents are settled with plenty of staff around the

Each time I visit my mum there is a general "good feel" to Woodlands Manor. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. I don't have any concerns regarding my mum's care and wellbeing.

Both my mum and dad are now residents of Woodlands Manor, they have been there now for 7 weeks and I couldn’t fault it so far. The manager of the home goes above and beyond in the care she gives and the events she puts on for the residents.
My mum and dad share a lovely room together backing onto
the huge very well-presented rear garden, all of the staff we have come across so far have been lovely, caring and attentive to my mum and dad. It was a very hard time for the family trying to find a home which we felt good enough for our mum and dad as you are looking for a 5-star hotel you will never find, we viewed around ten homes and never felt any of them good enough or suitable until we went to Woodlands Manor, once we met the manager and viewed the premises we felt comfort putting our mum and dad into the care they had needed for a while.
I will carry on adding reviews each month to hopefully help others looking for the right care home for their loved ones.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, starting at 16, when I joined my first Care Home in Liverpool. From that day on, I knew I wanted to make a difference to all the people I cared for. I have achieved many different vocational qualifications throughout my career, in and around care settings and am always looking to progress to the highest level of achievement. I joined Cedars Care Group in 2014 as a chef at Woodlands Manor, but my love of caring for people encouraged me to join the Care team within my first couple of years. In 2017 Liz became the GSF and Activities Co-Ordinator for all three of our homes in the North West. During this time, I devoted my efforts to helping Woodlands Manor and Cedar Grange gain Gold Standards Framework accreditation and providing stimulating and fun activity events for all the residents. In January 2020, I was eager to get back to supporting and providing care again to the residents and became the Care Manager at Woodlands Manor. I joined Cedar Grange and was promoted to Deputy Manager, in June 2021, before returning to Woodlands Manor to become the Home Manager there in August 2021. I am very passionate about promoting the uniqueness and individuality of people and allowing them the freedom of choice.
As a Home Manager, my primary goal is to honour each person's individuality, recognising and respecting who they were and who they are now. I bring a deep understanding and unwavering passion to my work with individuals living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, ensuring that our home is a safe, happy, and nurturing environment. I make it a priority that person-centered care is not just a concept, but a lived reality for all, fostering a culture of quality and diversity at Woodlands Manor.

From my college and university days, where I studied English, History, and law, to my practical experience in hospitality and retail, I have always been driven to expand my horizons. This drive led me to the care industry, where I worked in care in the community, taking care of a wide range of people, including those with dementia, end-of-life, and mental health disabilities. My dedication and leadership skills were quickly recognised, and following promotion, I led a team of 15 carers.
My journey at Woodlands Manor began in October 2022. After working in the community, I returned to an office environment. I started as a trainee administrator and swiftly progressed to the role of home administrator. Upon my arrival, I discovered that the office had been operating without an administrator for a short time, meaning there was a need for a complete reorganisation. I took this as a challenge and have since successfully transformed the office's operations.
My role at Woodlands Manor allows me to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents and their families. I have such a sense of pride in Woodlands Manor and I am proud to say I work there.
