My Mother-in-Law has been a resident in Caldy Manor for the past 12 months and the care and kindness shown to her by all the staff is excellent. The hard work and dedication of all the Caldy Manor team is second to none and they certainly go that extra mile to ensure that residents are comfortable and
well care for. My Mother-in-law is so happy at Caldy Manor and has made many friends and feels safe and is happy to now engage with people and join in with many of the interesting activities that the team members provide. She is a changed woman and her new home at Caldy manor has improved her overall well-being.

It's not an easy decision to move a parent into a care environment. We were nervous, emotional and worried about what the future held. However, the understanding, time and professionalism shown by the manager were exemplary. She settled all our nerves and helped us make the right decision showing the
right level of support throughout the process.
My mum was there for 6 weeks and thrived. She enjoyed the company and structure of the day and looked forward to the afternoon activities. All the staff we met were supportive and helpful and showed genuine care and thoughtfulness to both my mum and us.
I would definitely recommend Caldy - Mum is booked back for a return visit this month. Thank you.

Reasonably satisfied - but I'd like to see an inverted standard of food preparation.
The staff are always pleasant and supportive.

I am so pleased you have given us a review as you have lived with us for some time now and it is always helpful to know where we can personally make changes for the better for our residents. A massive thank you to the manager and her team at Caldy Manor, Dad stayed here for a weeks respite whilst Mum had a well-deserved break. Dad was treated and cared for very well. The manager kept us updated with very informative emails about Dad, which put our minds at ease. Thank you again, Caldy Manor.

Reply from Hannah Roberts, General Manager at Barchester Caldy Manor

Thank you for the feedback, all feedback is appreciated and I will pass this onto the team. It was a pleasure looking after Dad and so pleased you all had the break you needed. I hope that you and your family remain well and keep in touch.

Caldy Manor is unique. As soon as you arrive up the driveway the house has character and a warmth that is attractive. The same is true of the staff and the ethos of the home, we were always welcomed in and their communication with us was reliable and informative. It gave you the feeling that you knew
what was going on and how your relative was faring. Their care of our relative was second to none and he became part of their ‘family’. They always went the second mile both for him and for us as we lived a distance away. We were sorry that he needed to go to a nursing home in the end as we knew he loved it at Caldy Manor. Thank you to all the staff for making the home such a special place.

Caldy is a nice home, but don't put your loved one if they have dementia. They say they can offer dementia care with their new Memory Lane section but they can't cope with anything beyond residential. My dad became distressed and disorientated on day three of his stay and they demanded my mum collect
him. They as a team of trained "specialists" "couldn't cope" but felt it appropriate to throw the responsibility back on my mum as a single, untrained woman without any warning. She was basically summoned to remove him. Moreover, the manager couldn't even be bothered to meet my mum to explain what had happened; my dad was dumped in the reception with a carer, she collected him and we have heard nothing since! They seem to be caring but it is essentially a business and the niceties stop once they have collected their fees.
So in summary, very flashy home with some caring staff but have bitten off more than they can chew claiming that they can cater for dementia.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We work hard to recruit the right carers and staff and ensure they are inducted and trained to a high standard. We would like to respond by explaining that we conduct a pre-admission assessment to understand the needs of our residents before admission. Residents can be disorientated during the settling in period as they become familiar with new surroundings. Our care plans and needs of our residents are reviewed monthly, but sooner where required and families are a big part of that review process. Our rotas and staffing are adapted accordingly and we will continue to make changes to the environment of the home to the benefit of our residents. Our service is monitored by myself, the General Manager, however, I am afraid that week I took as annual leave, which is why I was unable to meet your family, our Regional team support daily. We thank you for your review and value all feedback.

My parents stayed at Caldy Manor at the end of February whilst my wife and I enjoyed a holiday. The care and kindness they received from the staff was excellent as was the attention to their minor medical needs. The home is spotlessly clean and the food was excellent, I know as I stayed for lunch before
leaving them. Neither of my parents (both in their 90's) have ever had "respite" care before and remain quite independent in their own home, so it was with some apprehension that I made these arrangements. The manager too visits their home prior to their stay allayed any fears that my parents had and knowing that they were safe and in good hands made our holiday all the more relaxing. Many thanks indeed to everyone at Caldy Manor and we hope to do the same again later in the year.

From the moment our frail 93-year-old mum entered Caldy Manor, she was treated with care, kindness and respect. The staff were all 5-star in terms of understanding her needs from the cleaners, chef, carers and management. Everyone saw her as an individual. Sadly, her Dementia deteriorated rapidly and
we were advised that a nursing assessment was being organised. This happened very promptly, allowing us to move her to a nursing unit in a timely fashion. Even after she had left Caldy Manor, the staff kept in touch with us to find out how she was.

Making the decision for a loved one to go into care is not an easy one. However, since our very first contact with the staff at Caldy Manor, we had known the decision was the right one. Everyone on the team, from catering and estates to carers and management, has welcomed my mum and our family with
a genuine warmth and kindness that has been really touching. The care my mum has received has been second to none. Nothing is ever too much trouble and there is a family feel to the place that makes it very special.

I visited my friends who are now both residents in your lovely home.
What a delightful home, lovely gardens, rooms, dining room and such a lovely meal was served which had been freshly prepared.
My friends had their laundry done for them and some items even ironed.
Excellent, I was very, very impressed.

We chose Caldy Manor Care home for my Mum and Dad for several reasons but the main reason was the staff. All their daughters live in Australasia!
My Dad passed away in March 2018 and the staff were amazing, helping my Mum to cope with the loss. My Mum now considers Caldy as home. The staff look after
my Mum as if she was family. I cannot say how grateful I am to them for all the loving care. They try to take Mum out of the home - she is wheelchair bound, so it is hard. But Mum LOVES to go out and the staff try as hard as they can to do this. This month, 2 carers took my Mum to Birkenhead to see Prince Harry and Megan. She actually met Harry - who held her hand and talked to her for 5 mins, then Megan also held her hand! None of this would have been possible without the kindness of the staff involved.
The food is amazing - I love eating there!
I cannot recommend this home more highly.

Our families have had three residents at Caldy Manor. Sadly one died this summer but the care and compassion shown to us all was above and beyond what would be expected, all the staff put themselves out to help relatives at that difficult time.
More recently we wanted to have a surprise birthday party
for a reluctant relative again super cooperation and nothing was too much trouble. It was a great success even enjoyed by the person who didn't want any fuss.

My husband stayed for one week and was very impressed. He thought everything was so good, accommodation, food, staff, care. He says that what he expected, he received during his stay. He has experience of another care home and this far exceeds that experience. He feels that no one could go wrong in
booking in here.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.597)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.597) out of 10 for Barchester Caldy Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.976 for Barchester Caldy Manor is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.976

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.621 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Caldy Manor is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.921

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
