Mum and dad went to Caldy Manor in August 2014 and were made very welcome - they settled in as well as can be expected - with such a life changing experience. We lost mum this January and I feel that everybody at Caldy Manor have helped dad tremendously. I go to see dad at least 3/4 times a week so
I do feel I am in a positive position to be aware of how residents are treated - always with dignity. As expected I have had a few concerns and I find the manager and deputy very willing and helpful, and feel assured that they will do everything to put things right - even if not immediately.
All the seniors and staff are very approachable. The staff turnover has been exceptionally high over the last 1 and a half years and I hope we can go through a more settled period. One of my concerns has been 'stimulation' and entertainment, these areas are being actioned positively with new initiatives and a new staff member.

This is, without doubt, the most impressive home from among the 18 I contacted/visited when looking for appropriate medium-term respite for my 86 year old dad. The settings are fantastic, every single member of staff that I have met are genuinely interested in dad's welfare and well-being and the facilities
are excellent. Caldy Manor represents excellent value for money and has the added reassurance of good ratings by the Care Quality Commission.

In addition, the weekly 'surgery' held at the home by the local GP, as well as the determination of the staff to ensure that all external health care providers fulfil their duties ensures piece of mind - not least because prior to dad's stay, trying to co-ordinate, chase or manage his health needs from among the various providers was almost impossible.

Dad, who has previously been averse to the idea of a care home, is happy, settled and enjoying his time at Caldy Manor.

We have been visiting an elderly man and his wife in this home for several years. Initially the care seemed satisfactory but then things deteriorated. The man was often unclean and unshaven. His clothes were dirty and soiled. The room smelt horribly of urine.
The food seems okay and the staff have
always been friendly. We have discussed this with several other visitors to this elderly couple and found they were of the same opinion. Very recently there has been some improvement with refurbishment of some of the room contents.

Barchester Caldy Manor is an amazing care home. Beautiful environment, wonderful gardens and spotlessly clean. The staff are so patient and kind, all the time. Nothing is too much trouble. They know the residents well and always have time for a chat and a laugh. The food is very good- with a good choice
at every meal.

To find a care home, showing compassion and dignity for ones loved one, is of paramount importance. I have found this to be the case at Caldy Manor, where the caring staff and management, always on hand to listen and help with any questions a relative may wish to raise. My husband is at present receiving
respite care, with a view to longer term care.

My Mum has been in Caldy Manor now for 2 years she has Alzheimer's. Although initially this was a difficult decision we could not have been happier with the care we have received. The staff are outstanding, kind and thoughtful - nothing is too much trouble. All residents have their hair done weekly
and there is entertainment on a daily basis. In the warmer weather the residents can be found outside eating ice lollies and enjoying the lovely gardens. The atmosphere is friendly and happy and you can always help yourselves to a cup of tea or stay for lunch or dinner. I feel really lucky that my Mum is here at Caldy I feel that her care is excellent and the little touches throughout the home, flowers etc make it a lovely warm welcoming home. Smells lovely and your welcome anytime at all. As a Nurse I feel that I can recommend Caldy both as a professional but most importantly as a daughter.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.597)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.597) out of 10 for Barchester Caldy Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.976 for Barchester Caldy Manor is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.976

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.621 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Caldy Manor is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.921

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
