The room is excellent. Food is excellent. Staff are excellent. My husband is settling a lot better now. Better with pads under the bed and pillow.

We managed to get my wife into Brierfield House Care Home with comparative ease. We were lucky enough to find that the home had a vacancy which coincided with my moving home up to Lancaster to be nearer to our twin sisters.
Unfortunately, my wife was suffering from dementia and was not really aware
of where she was. The care which was provided by the home was excellent and I have no complaint with the care provided by the staff who all carried out their duties with a cheerful attitude.
I would class the home as being among the best that we have come into contact with. Our need to get my wife properly looked after meant that we visited many homes to asses their standards, Brierfield was certainly up at the top of that list.

I find the staff extremely pleasant and helpful in all aspects of their work in caring for my brother. Since he has been here he has gone back to his old self that we all know and love. He has company and is a lot happier in his self.

This home is bright and welcoming. My mother is happy and contented. The staff are warm and friendly, very approachable. They cater for and understand fully my mother's needs. Nothing is too much trouble. Observing them with other residents, it shows how they are caring, professional and loving towards
their residents and the residents respond to them. I have every confidence in leaving my mum in their care. I struggled at first to accept my mum had to go into care, the staff knew this and have been very supportive and reassuring. I can see mum at any time. If I have any concerns, their door is always open.
I have nothing but the highest praise for the staff. Thank you.

My Grandad lived here for 12 months before he died. I visit residents occasionally who knew my Grandad. The atmosphere within the home is magical and overall it has pleasant surroundings. Even though my Grandad no longer lives there, the staff always make you feel welcome and I feel his spirit is still
there. If I ever end up in a care home later in life, I hope it is Brierfield House Care Home.

In my opinion, things are alright when you think about what the staff have to do with the people they have to deal with.

Mother is 100 and very with it so she knows what's what. She has been always used to good food but here it varies. She likes puddings but the stewed fruit is always sour, it's been mentioned but nothing alters. Sponge pudding is sponge only, where is the fruit?
Friday is fish day, fish fingers, fish
cakes are not acceptable. The staff are very kind and it always nice and warm. Very sorry that the manager has resigned through family reasons.

Thank you for taking the time to review Brierfield House - we really appreciate all comments and feedback. It disappoints me to read that you have some concerns regarding the meals here. In relation to this, residents and relatives are encouraged to liaise with the team so we can make every effort to provide residents with a meal of their choice. We will always try our best to accommodate for everyone’s tastes. I’d like to talk in more detail about this; perhaps you have some meals you’d like to see on the menu? I’ll be in touch to discuss further. Best wishes, Shelley.

My dad was in Brierfield House for the last 12 months of his life, it was a very hard decision to place him in a care home. Our first choice was not right for him so after 3 weeks we started looking around several care homes and looked at the pros and cons on 4 care homes Brierfield House came out tops.
It's purpose built so very roomy and plenty of space in the day rooms for movement, quiet areas and TV area or even the conservatory. We used it for his 89th party . The staff were trained in looking after residential/ dementia. They made him feel at ease and after a few weeks he was settled. They had good family communication with any slight illnesses and excellent care commitment when it came to serious matters. District nurse/doctors always available when needed and even they have contact with the Tele nurse via IPad so no unnecessary trips to the hospital. Bedroom with their own toilet and basin. Shared showers/bath rooms which are adapted well. I would highly recommend . Good all round.

My wife has been in this care home for four and a half years and since Four Season took over, myself and my family have been very pleased with her care. All the staff rom the manager down are very caring and considerate with all the residents and relatives/visitors. The housekeeping is very good the
cleanliness of the rooms, the care of clothing and the catering. I want the best care for my wife who has severe dementia and this home provides this for us both.

My mum has now been living at Brierfield House for about 3 months following a move from her own home to an almost catastrophic/disastrous admission to another local care home a couple of months earlier - and I haven't seen her as happy for a good 2/3 years! She can find nothing to suggest as an improvement
and neither can I. Since being admitted, she has not needed to go to hospital and this is the longest time for many years. She is even putting on weight - which is a bit different from a woman who, prior to her admission, was all but refusing to eat and who was regularly admitted to hospital with dehydration. The staff across the board are a credit and are responsible in every respect for the fabulous and quite dramatic turn around in my mum's life.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.891)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.891) out of 10 for Brierfield House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.796 for Brierfield House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 54 Ratings = 4.796

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.095 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brierfield House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.595

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
