High Wray residential care home is an independent family run home in the heart of clieves hill countryside, Aughton. The home aims to provide a welcoming, friendly and homely environment, with multiple communal and outdoor spaces.

The home has been extensively renovated since ownership was taken in 2008, with the most recent renovations completing in 2022.
The main house is full of character with many original features and a grade 2 listed large lounge area. A lift is available for all residents to access all areas of the home. The main house has 19 bedrooms, 1 being a large 1st floor suite with kitchenette and 180 degree views.
At the Rear of the home there are 2 purpose built wings, proving 20 private garden room. 2 of which are large garden suites with kitchenette facilities. The garden rooms provide French door access onto private garden spaces, for the sole use of occupied residents. The home encourages all families to furnish both inside and outside spaces to provide a true home from home feel.

Each of the 43 rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard, many with bespoke built in furniture.
All rooms have a BT phone point, WiFi, TV and nurse call bell system.

Delicious meals are chosen daily and enjoyed in own room or the dining room, which leads out onto a large secure patio area. Outdoor dining is also encouraged in summer months.
Daily activities are encouraged and a monthly calendar is shared with all residents.
Residents choice and wellbeing is paramount and the team encourage resident participation when planning activities and daily menus.

The home provides a range of inclusive facilities such as laundry, daily activities and therapy. Services such as hairdressing, chiropody, dentistry and physiotherapy are also available at an extra cost.

Mum lived independently (with support) until April 2022 but then needed full time care, as her mobility and capability deteriorated to a point where living independently was not possible. After a period in Hospital, and a rehabilitation unit, Mum went to High Wray. Everything about High Wray was focused
on helping Mum to adjust to her change of circumstances and giving her the best possible care when she was feeling vulnerable. She quickly adjusted to living at High Wray, enjoyed the organised activities and made new friends with other residents and staff. High Wray became her home in the best sense of the word. When visiting it was a pleasure to meet the staff, and their approach gave me confidence that Mum was being well looked after. Mum never once said 'Why am I here', or 'I want to go home', which I believe showed how well she had settled there. I recommend High Wray without hesitation and have already done so. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff at High Wray.

Excellent care home.
My neighbour fell at home and needed some short term care until she was ready to return home again. An assessment took place and she was offered a room quickly and was made to feel very welcome. The room she was offered was brand new with a fantasist garden view.
She enjoyed
her meals and was able to choose to either eat in the dining room or in her bedroom. She was provided with fantastic care and the staff are always happy to answer any questions and provide any support needed.
The home is kept clean and all her clothes washed daily and returned to her room.

I was in hospital myself from end of March to end of July with my mental health and not able to visit my dear wife until a fortnight before my discharge. The care and support given to my wife was most excellent, as has been the support to myself and family from all at High Wray during this time and

We selected High Wray four years ago for our Auntie who needed a care home setting to enjoy her life. At that stage, we were happy with the cleanliness and overall decor of the place.
The initial viewing and discussion with the staff was very encouraging and we agreed to sign up. The allotted room
was very good with fantastic views across Lancashire to the North and the Mersey to the West. Since then we have been very impressed with the operation despite Covid and staff shortages which have all been overcome.
The flow of information has been excellent and our Auntie is very happy.

Thank you to all the staff at High Wray for providing outstanding care for my grandmother over the last year. The team shows exemplary care and understanding of her needs. They provide a full range of activities for the residents and only last week had lambs come to visit. My Granny loves animal interaction
and always talks fondly of her day filled with many options at Highway. During the covid restrictions we have always felt safe and importantly keeping our Granny safe. Staff say that restrictions are easing and I believe that High Wray has never had Covid, which is amazing as not many care homes can say this! My Granny also talks fondly about the amazing food. I look forward to coming in soon to join her for an afternoon tea. Thank you again for treating my Granny like family.

The treatment and isolation of my mum have been very upsetting. She was quarantined for three days 72 hours because my brother her son when on a visit allowed his face mask to slip briefly while visiting our 91-year-old mum. It was witnessed by a member of staff who reported it to the management. Management
took extreme over-the-top punitive action by isolating our mum to her room for 72 hours after just ending a previous 72-hour quarantine after a four-day visit to our home in Wales. I complained to the management who was totally unsympathetic and extremely rude. The lady spoke with a raised voice and did not listen to my concerns as to what this continuous isolation and quarantine of my mum was affecting her spirit and will. It was most distressing.
I hope I never have to witness the upset that this caused my mum again!!

Please be assured the well-being of residents is our priority. During isolation, your mum had social distance visits from friends, family visits, 1:1's with staff and an activity workbook. We have remained covid free throughout the pandemic, which we are immensely proud of and work hard to remain this way. We also rely on families to work with us. Our infection control measures are explained at the point of booking visits and on entry to the home, POD visits are available for those who prefer. We have been offering safe visiting since June 2020 and we are guided by families as to how we progress with visiting. Residents have varying levels of vulnerability, and sadly we never know who is a carrier of the virus and who will be affected. The measures taken may seem unforgiving but it is to protect all residents who live with us. Whilst we appreciate feedback, to truly review our home and observe care, cleanliness, rooms, food provided etc you may wish to visit HighWray before making this judgement.

Having visited a dear friend weekly who lives here, I am in no doubt that he is cared for 100% and that the staff have the best interests of those in their care at heart. It is an ethos that
comes from the top and is evident amongst staff who appear to also be valued highly. Well done to all who work here; an incredible building with its original features enhanced beautifully and with no expense spared in monetary or catering terms. The residents are furnished likewise.

My mum had a difficult time at another care home, and we withdrew her from there and had to find another placement really quickly. High Wray offered an assessment at very little notice, and the member of staff who undertook that was the best possible combination of professional, friendly, thorough and
courteous. That good first impression was reinforced when Mum was admitted a few days later. High Wray is in a beautiful location, the building is modern and clean and the rooms are spacious. My mum enjoys the meals and the activities and entertainment provided. The most impressive thing about High Wray though is the quality of the staff. Every single one I've met, from the manager to the part-time student nurse, has been so welcoming, so kind in what they say about my mum, and so accommodating with any requests we have made. I can't say how relieved we have been as a family to find such a superb facility to care for our mum. I fully recommend it with absolutely no reservation.

This home is exceptional and the standards are high. The staff are caring and dedicated. The home is spotless and the food is home-cooked. My mum has been here for 4 years and is very happy and content. The big room at the back is surrounded by beautiful countryside and every afternoon this is where
the residents can enjoy a full activity programme. My mum enjoys the singing afternoons. I can highly recommend High Wray, recently they were quick to recognise a health issue and contact the relevant medical professionals. The management team are very understanding and during the past year have worked exceptionally hard to keep everyone safe and well.

My dad has been a resident for some time. I am confident that he receives the best care at all times. The staff are always diligent and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is clean and the view from the guest lounge is fantastic. It is very much a home from home.

My mum was in High Wray for several years and recently I was lucky enough to get my dad in there for respite after he came out of hospital. This was the only place I wanted him to go, as I knew they would support him so much in his recovery and help him get back on his feet, which is exactly what they
did.
The care at High Wray is just outstanding. The management are so supportive to family and helped me so much during some very difficult times. The staff are all fantastic and I can't praise them highly enough. The food is excellent and they accommodated my Dad's allergies completely. He loved everything about his stay there and it is the only place I would want, and trust, to look after anyone I loved.

Just the best residential home that my mum and I could have chosen for her, in every way. The interior and surroundings are as far away from what you would normally expect; my son said it is like a beautiful hotel and would be happy to stay there himself, and I agree!
The care and staff are outstanding.
A leg ulcer that my mum had for several years and the District Nurse's said put her at risk of sepsis has now cleared up with their care. I have recommended them many times already.

I sadly fell and fractured my hip and needed somewhere to recover. High Wray was Highly recommended by multiple people, and my daughter's friends parents live there. I am independent, and I was anxious about being in a care home as I am not 'old' and at that stage of my life. I had a garden room with
french doors onto my own garden terrace, which was so lovely for my stay during the summer. The food is excellent and the restaurant quality. If it is was not for the coronavirus pandemic, I would definitely return for lunch as a day visitor. All the staff I met were very polite, kind and understanding. The staff helped me with my Ipad connection and downloaded programmes for me to watch. High Wray has an in house hairdresser, which was very much appreciated, as I had not managed to get to the hairdressers with being in lockdown. Cleaners attended my room every day, and I can honestly say it was spotless. The whole place was welcoming, and I am thankful to all the staff.

The care and support given at High Wray is outstanding. The staff team shows exemplary levels of care and understanding of the needs of residents. They are sensitive, supportive and offer a personal approach. There are obviously excellent interpersonal relationships between the staff, at all levels,
displaying respect, courtesy and a good sense of humour. The standards and range of facilities are very high, including a stimulating programme of activities and various forms of communication with relatives. Every effort is made to ensure relatives can communicate with the residents, particularly in the current restrictions, due to the Covid pandemic. I cannot recommend High Wray enough.

High Wray staff cared for my dad for nearly two years, before his Dementia worsened. I found the staff to be very caring and helpful giving the home a family feel. The home location and environment is excellent. Lovely, both for the resident and those visiting.

My relatives have used the services of High Wray for over the past ten years and I have nothing but praise for the whole of the team. There is strong leadership and management in place which is gentle and caring, giving a feeling of security within the care team which is projected to residents. The
collective experience of the staff contributes to this atmosphere.
When the need arises, it can be easily demonstrated how the care team's skill interfaces well with medical staff and other external agencies to propagate security. Members of the team have been known to me over this period of time which shows the stability of the home and there is a clear direction that residents are living in their own home with freedom and not institutionalised. Excellent facilities exist which are well maintained, bright, airy and provision is made for stimulation, games, music, singing, quizzes and excursions. I would not hesitate in recommending High Wray.

At 92, my mother was determined to stay in her own home even though it was becoming ever more difficult as her mobility and confidence declined. She reluctantly agreed to try High Wray for a week.
On the day she came home, she said, "I want to go back straight away and live there. I felt safe there
and I know I'm not safe at home".
So she moved to High Wray, to a lovely room with beautiful views. Within a couple of months, she looked and acted years younger. She has been there for a year now, and always says how nice it is and how well she is looked after. The staff are friendly and very caring and they make her laugh; they keep a close eye on her health and if there is a hint of a problem they call the doctor and make sure that it is sorted.
Thank goodness for High Wray.
