High Wray residential care home is an independent family run home in the heart of clieves hill countryside, Aughton. The home aims to provide a welcoming, friendly and homely environment, with multiple communal and outdoor spaces.

The home has been extensively renovated since ownership was taken in 2008, with the most recent renovations completing in 2022.
The main house is full of character with many original features and a grade 2 listed large lounge area. A lift is available for all residents to access all areas of the home. The main house has 19 bedrooms, 1 being a large 1st floor suite with kitchenette and 180 degree views.
At the Rear of the home there are 2 purpose built wings, proving 20 private garden room. 2 of which are large garden suites with kitchenette facilities. The garden rooms provide French door access onto private garden spaces, for the sole use of occupied residents. The home encourages all families to furnish both inside and outside spaces to provide a true home from home feel.

Each of the 43 rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard, many with bespoke built in furniture.
All rooms have a BT phone point, WiFi, TV and nurse call bell system.

Delicious meals are chosen daily and enjoyed in own room or the dining room, which leads out onto a large secure patio area. Outdoor dining is also encouraged in summer months.
Daily activities are encouraged and a monthly calendar is shared with all residents.
Residents choice and wellbeing is paramount and the team encourage resident participation when planning activities and daily menus.

The home provides a range of inclusive facilities such as laundry, daily activities and therapy. Services such as hairdressing, chiropody, dentistry and physiotherapy are also available at an extra cost.

My parents first had a short term stay in High Wray about five years ago, since then Mum has had several more short stays and is now a permanent resident. The home is always clean, tidy, welcoming and odour free. Many of the staff remember my Dad which is a comfort to Mum. Everyone from management,
office, catering and of course, the care staff are friendly and approachable the managers door is always open, not only for residents but also family, as there are times when we need support too. Should residents be a little bit slow with morning mobility, they are able to have breakfast in their own room. Mum enjoys the food and there is always a choice. Most days there are activities and a hairdresser every week for a spot of pampering. The outdoor space is scenic and is easily accessible for all. Acknowledging that a loved one needs more care than you can give them is upsetting and the transition is not easy but High Wray has helped endlessly. Thank you for that and for the care.

We have found the care and support at High Wray excellent. The Manager was very caring and patient, making an assessment of needs and time and considerable effort has been taken, by the range of staff, in working out and managing day to day needs. The care and patience of the staff are outstanding,
this takes away much of the anxiousness. Supervising the medication, at the correct times of the day, has also made a positive difference. The food is wonderful. As a family, we are very happy that the Resident is safe and managed. Visitors are encouraged to visit when they like and are made welcome. The lounge with its size, open aspect and views is a really wonderful space. There are often activities going on there, which is great. The bedroom is really lovely and is well cared for. Haircare and nail care is also a welcome support service.

When my mother became ill, we were fortunate to find High Wray Care Home in Aughton. The care was wonderful as all my mother's needs were catered for and she had a wonderful time there until she, unfortunately, passed away. Subsequently, when my father became unable to care for himself, we had no hesitation
in contacting High Wray who once again were willing to look after him as well. He was looked after with so much care and attention that I do not think we could have looked after him so well if he had stayed at home.

My brother suffered a stroke. He wanted a couple of weeks respite. It is self-funded, so, we looked at reviews and asked around for recommendations etc. rather than trying pot luck. High Wray was mentioned in conversations so I rang to make an appointment to inspect. I was told no need to and just turn
up. So that is what we did.
Loads of parking and easy access to the ramp. We were well received by the manager and were made to feel welcome.
We were duly shown around. The views from the respite rooms were stunning. There were no smells of poor housekeeping and the place was very clean and well presented. Plenty of staff around and plenty of smiles too. A lift to all floors. We were very impressed and he decided he would book.
The verdict: My brother cannot praise the staff enough! The staff have obviously indulged him and they have bolstered his confidence. "Food was good and the banter even better" he said.
I asked him would he go back? "In a heartbeat," he replied.
Enough said!

My brother moved into High Wray in February 2018 after looking at several other local nursing homes. And I can honestly say we made the best choice.


High Wray once a family home was extended and adapted to suit the resident's needs. It has one big lounge with a glass wall, a wonderful sun-trap.

This lounge is used for celebrations. And also in this lounge, there is a huge TV screen. The smaller lounge has beautiful wood panels and floor to ceiling windows. The dining room is light and airy. My brother's room is big enough for his own furniture and possessions, so, comfy for him and a lot like home.


As for care, it could not be better. His every need is seen to, from nursing to personal needs to cleaning his room. The staff are excellent, from managerial, to office, nursing and cleaning. Nothing is too much trouble, everyone there is always cheerful and happy to give residents their time. The staff no matter how busy are still always sensitive to resident's needs.
