  • The Knowle Care Home, Preston
The Knowle Care Home opened in 1986 and the original building was created from two large Victorian houses.

In 2018, The Knowle Care Home, one of Preston's leading residential and dementia care homes, opened the doors to it's a new purpose-built extension and The Knowle can now offer a combination of modern or more traditional rooms.

The Knowle is able to accommodate 32 residents, which allows the home to maintain a homely and friendly atmosphere. The majority of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities and the home is also able to offer companion bedrooms for those couples who wish to share.

The outstanding staff team are led by the experienced registered manager who has been in the post for six years. This stability and experience together with the highly trained and caring staff provide an excellent environment for residents.

The registered manager and the staff team appreciate that a move into residential care can be a stressful time for the resident and loved ones and are on hand to help and to answer any queries.

In addition to the high level of care provided, the residents at The Knowle benefit from the activity and lifestyle program which is led by the dedicated activities coordinator. There is a wide variety of activities available to suit everyone's tastes. Group activities are provided and there is also dedicated one-to-one time.

There are regular residents and relatives meetings to help enhance and continually improve the service.

Two experienced chefs are employed at The Knowle Care Home to ensure that the meals, snacks and homemade cakes that are provided are of an excellent standard.

The Knowle Care Home received the Investors in People award in December 2020.

The Knowle Care Home was rated as 'good' in all areas by CQC in November 2020.

Given the news from the hospital that my mother could not return home was upsetting and equally worrying. I was worried about what care my mother might receive going into a home and I didn’t know where to start the process of finding my mother a home. I was given a list of homes by the hospital.
The
first home I visited was The Knowle care home and the staff were reassuring and friendly and were understanding of my concerns and nerves. From the minute I walked in it felt homely and the home had a wonderful atmosphere. After looking around other homes I chose The Knowle for my mother and I couldn’t be happier with the care she receives. Mother is happy and content whenever I visit and the staff keep me informed of any changes or updates with my mother.

The home is excellent, both the manager and the staff are extremely caring and helpful. I was worried about my relative having to go into a care home, however, both the manager and the staff helped put my mind at ease. I visited the home on various occasions prior to my relative moving in and each time
the manager and the staff were very helpful.
Since moving in both my relative and myself are really happy with the care she receives. I would highly recommend The Knowle Care Home.

It can be very stressful dealing with an emergency need for a care home. The Knowle were great about helping us organise a private ambulance and taking care of the details. Lovely place.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.236)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.236) out of 10 for The Knowle Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.336 for The Knowle Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (53 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.336

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Knowle Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello! I'm Becky the Activities Coordinator at The Knowle. I started working here in early December. This is my first time working in this job role and I am absolutely loving it and enjoying spending time with all the residents. Activities help to sustain both physical and mental health and therefore I believe it is important that your loved ones are able to maintain their interests and have opportunities to develop new ones. Please feel free to send me a message here or ring the home if you want to suggest any activities your loved one may like. I look forward to meeting you all!
