Dad spent his last four months in the care of Moorside Hall. His terminal heart failure required increasing amounts of nursing care and, throughout this decline, the staff were unfailingly warm, kind, and cheerful.
Dad had never wanted to be in a nursing home, so my brother and I struggled to find
somewhere that he might tolerate- until we found Moorside Hall. It's a little gem of a place, that feels more like a home than an institution and is ideally located right across the road from the park. On one fine autumnal morning, the staff made it possible for me to take Dad to the park, where we could enjoy nature together for the last time. He was a keen gardener, so this was really precious.
We are very grateful to everyone at Moorside for their love and care; to the staff for always sharing their joy and cheer with residents, to the chef for the fine food, to the freelance entertainers for all the songs, and to management for always being accessible and supportive to family.

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to care for you and your lovely dad at such a sensitive time in his life. We appreciate your comments and thank you for taking the time to provide such a positive review. He will be missed by us all and never forgotten.

In February 2023 our family sadly lost our elderly Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great Great Grandma to Dementia/Alzheimers.
The kindness of all the staff go far beyond expectations in such a busy Home such as Moorside Hall, from addressing Mum's previous challenging behaviour to supporting us in
our last hours of sadness.
Staff communication and care was exceptional from informing us of Mum's deterioration at lunchtime to supporting us (my sister's and I) through to early evening when we finally said our farewells along with the staff on duty.
We would also like to thank staff for attending Mum's funeral, kind words and hugs and for staff continuing to care for the residents in the Home whilst others attended.
Moorside Hall is not just a home but a family home where everyone was made welcome.
Moorside Hall was my Mum's home for 18 months. But in this time she felt secure and happy, we felt as a family that Mum was cared for and loved by Moorside Hall family.

It is lovely to read your review of Moorside Hall. It warms our hearts to know that the intention we set out to achieve is evident to our lovely families. Your Mum will always have a special place in our hearts. It has been a priviledge to be a part of your family's journey and an honour to take care of your lovely Mum - she is sadly missed but fondly remembered. We hope to see you soon for coffee.

I just want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all the care Mum received during the 18 months she was fortunate enough to be cared for at Moorside Hall.
We were updated when there was a change in Mum’s eating and mobility and were informed that she was then entitled to NHS Continuing
Care. The application was completed and submitted by the home.
All the staff knew Mum ‘inside out’ and their genuine love and care was further demonstrated when she passed away.
We were called in a very sensitive manner and were looked after whilst sitting by her side. Tasty food and drinks were plentiful. Mum was kept very comfortable and passed away very peacefully.
The staff were professional, respectful, kind and showed much dignity throughout.
There was no urgency for us to ‘move on’ at any stage. We will always be grateful for their love and support at such a special time in our lives. We were pleased that so many of the staff were able to attend the celebration of Mum’s life.

What a relief it was to get Mum moved to Moorside Hall after an unhappy year in a larger, smarter and more expensive home. The manager and all the staff have been amazing in very difficult circumstances with Covid and all the precautions necessary. There is always someone who answers the phone, who
knows my mum well and treats her as one of the family. Her general and mental health improved, and I can trust them to provide excellent care for her. We are all happy.

Wonderful staff and manager throughout the home. Nothing is too much trouble. Every single need is catered for. Bright, clean, lovely rooms. Every time we visit, always greeted with a smile and every question answered. Always offered a drink and homemade cakes. Certainly the perfect choice for my stepdad.
I would highly recommend this exceptional home to anyone looking for peace of mind and great care.

My mother was a resident at Moorside Hall for 18 months. During this time, not only was she cared for in a professional, respectful and loving way, but great care was also given to my father who was struggling himself visiting Mum on a daily basis.
On one occasion when my father had a small accident
on his way to visit Mum, they drove out to the accident and stayed with him until I could get up from Manchester - above and beyond my expectations.
The home itself is always clean, and the food freshly prepared and delicious. The staff are friendly, courteous and seem to really care about the residents. Afternoon entertainment is the norm, often singing, which Mum loved.
She was always smart, nails painted and hair done. A podiatrist visits regularly, and the nursing staff were great at updating me about any problems and contacted the GP appropriately.
Towards the end, Mum needed increasing care, and they provided this with great tenderness, as well as comforting me.
I cannot thank them enough.

At Moorside Hall, we try to offer the 'full package' - so as well as giving our residents the best possible care, we involve the families where-ever possible, including them in care plans as well as day to day running of the home. When the next of kin themselves are also elderly and becoming frail, it is vital that we offer as much support as possible. It was an absolute pleasure to have this lady in our home - we miss her wonderful smile and gentle nature.

My mother suffers from vascular dementia, and has been a resident here since October 2012, in these seven years, she has always been treated well and cared for by the hardworking staff. Both family and friends have commented favourably on the premises and staff, after visiting my mother. We are always
kept informed of her condition and health matters have always been discussed. We are very pleased with the home, it's residents and staff and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others, and have done so.

Thank you for this review. Some of our residents have been with us a number of years, other just a few months. All are treated with the same respect and care and this is down to the dedication and commitment of our staff team.

My mum moved here three years ago from another home who couldn't manage her challenging behaviour. She is emotionally labile, at times praising the home and staff and at times verbally and physically aggressive towards staff and me. Despite the challenge she presents, the staff remain understanding
and respectful. My family and friends who have visited have all been impressed with the quality of care and the creativity the staff show in engaging with all the residents, with activities tailored to each person's needs. There is a welcoming "family" atmosphere and social activities throughout the year to which families are invited. My mum especially enjoys the singer/musician who entertains every month and on her 90th birthday. The staff here "go the extra mile" and it was lovely to see staff who were off duty, with some of their grandchildren at the garden party this summer.

My father suffers from dementia, is frail and was a resident here for several months. He was very unhappy at this nursing home and his mental and physical state deteriorated very quickly. His medication was increased until he could barely walk and was asked to leave. He is now much happier in another
nursing home, walking and interacting again with professional and compassionate staff. Moorside Hall is clean and tidy and but it didn't meet my father's needs.

My father was a resident here for a short space of time following discharge from hospital. The staff were excellent, professional and compassionate and did everything they could for my dad. There were enough people working and everything was top class. I would have no hesitation in strongly recommending
this as the first choice for nursing care in the area.

My mother was in the care of Moorside Hall for 11 years and during all that time the care was of the highest quality. She suffered no bed sores despite being incapable of walking unaided, she was treated with dignity and care by all the staff at all times. The staff liaised with me concerning her health
and needs continuously.
At her death, I got the feeling that it was they who had lost a relative as well.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.932)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.932) out of 10 for Moorside Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Moorside Hall is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.932 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorside Hall is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.4 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
