When my mother first went to the nursing home the staff were caring but the place smelt of urine and the staff were always changing.
She was in ten months ago but management has changed and it has been decorated and had new carpets down and they get a choice of food and lots of tea and coffee and are
encouraged to drink which a lot of old people don't do.
My mother has settled in now and is happy for the most part as she has severe dementia.

My Mum moved to The Old Vicarage Rest Home in April 2017 when her previous care home closed. All my dealings with management, administration and care staff have been excellent. Everyone was concerned, considerate and kind, especially to Mum.
She passed away peacefully at the end of May and her care
staff at the end were superb.

The manager and staff here were outstanding with the care of my mother who was here for a 7 week period due to extreme depression. Every time I visited her and took her out I noticed a visible change in her recovery. She can be a difficult person to handle at times, but enjoyed her stay here. Saying
she enjoyed being pampered. The food was very much to her liking. I always found all the staff had time to speak with you. Nothing seemed too much trouble.

Over the last 3 months I have seen a major improvement in cleanliness of the residents and the home itself. There seems to be an increase in staffing levels contributing to a happier working environment which reflects in the overall well being of the residents.
My only real concern is of the food and
drink, whilst it is satisfactory I believe the standard of produce could be improved. This has a direct influence on the value for money aspect of the care.
This all said, I would highly recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for a home that really cares.

Thank you Sheran for your thoughtful review. I am very happy that you feel there have been many improvements. We have developed a new menu to ensure residents have increased choice and control (resident centred ) around meal times and menu choices. We have introduced a wider selection of drinks including milky drinks, fresh fruit juices, and a variety of teas and coffee - we hope that this will meet everyones taste buds! Thank you once again!

My mother arrived to visit her sister who has been in the care home for some years. Mum who is 91 has recently become confused and on this occasions was having a 'bad day'. The care workers recognised this, took care of her, admitted her and called both the doctor and the social workers. They could
not have been more caring. We visited today, she will remain there for at least the next few weeks/months and we are happy she is in such good care.

My step-mother had to be admitted in an emergency due to extreme confusion she experience when visiting her sister. We visited her on the following day and found her extremely happy and content. We witnessed, first hand the quality of the food she was given and the professionalism and kindness of all
the staff involved. During the afternoon she joined in with the activities that were provided and really enjoyed the music that was playing. This was only a brief visit but it was the happiest we had seen her for years. I would like to add that the lady who greeted use on arrival made a first class initial impression of the home.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.061)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.061) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.847 for The Old Vicarage is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.847

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.214 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 7 = 0.714

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
