I visit my nana regularly and over the past few months, it’s undoubtedly clear how things have improved. The home is noticeably cleaner, smells fresher, things appear to be much more organised in my nana's room, her drawers and wardrobe are much tidier and her room itself smells fresh and clean. My
nana also appears to be spending more time downstairs which is so comforting to me and my sister, whenever we visited before she was usually in bed with the curtains drawn, no TV on etc.
I just want to say thank you for what you are doing, it’s very much noticed by us and appreciated more than you know!

Reply from Francesca Dominey, Manager at Royal Care Home

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are really sorry to hear about the situation your nana was in which you have described and it's with great pleasure to know that our aim of making this home a better place for everyone is being noticed. It's amazing to see your nana downstairs smiling and laughing with others and joining in with the activities.

Initially, both of my parents were in the Royal, and eventually just my father was there. The current management has a sincere determination to make the home the best it can possibly be. This includes sprucing the place up a bit. The new management also seems committed to providing improved communication,
as well as improved care. On occasion, we've been invited to have the food, and we have found it to be excellent. The main observation I would like to make is that the day my father passed away, I could not have wished for a more caring and dignified situation. Even though not in a position to be fully aware of it, he was freshly washed and shaved, very cosily positioned, and the management took the lead in providing hands-on tender care for him. I would say that the future is looking good for this home under this renewed management.

Reply from Francesca Dominey, Manager at Royal Care Home

As a home we are so very grateful to receive such brilliant feedback from you, we are thankful that you were there to see the care, compassion and dignity we gave your father right up to the very end of his life. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to provide all the tender care your dad deserved.

My mother has been a resident for the last eighteen months and couldn’t be happier. The friendly, professional, and attentive staff have gone out of their way to ensure my Mum is treated as an individual and is comfortable and safe. She loves her room with all her personal things around her but also
enjoys the company of other residents in the lounges and dining room. Mum really enjoys the atmosphere in The Royal Care Home and it’s a great comfort to me that she couldn’t be anywhere better!

The care that the manager and staff have given to our family member has been exceptional. They have gone far beyond what we could have ever hoped for or expected.
Unfortunately, his needs have increased and he has had to be moved to a nursing home.
We will be forever grateful for everything they have
done for him and us.

After a very difficult stay in hospital a friend of mine was no longer able to live at home. Since becoming a resident at The Royal Care Home his improvement has been marvellous. He has gained weight and looks so much better. Due to the patience, kindness and attention of the management and staff, he
is now very content. The management and staff really are a credit to themselves.

My mum moved to the Royal Care Home in spring 2018 from her own home. Since that time she has settled very well, has gained weight and appears to be in robust health despite her Alzheimers.
My impression is that the staff are well trained and very caring with all the residents. My mum has only positive
things to say about the staff. The home is well run and managed and I am relieved that my mum has settled so well. As the move to residential care was something we had approached with trepidation we are pleased it has gone so well and Mum is as happy as she is.

I have been really impressed with this care home. My mother has been looked after so well. The staff are caring and friendly; when I phone they always know how she has been and with her progress. I can't thank the staff enough.
There are lots of activities and have a well planned 4-week rotational
schedule for these activities. This is really helping my mum's dementia. She seems so happy.

I cannot praise The Royal enough for what they have achieved with my mum. She was placed on an Intergenerational care program (bringing old and young together). This has improved her speech greatly. I thank the manager for giving her the opportunity as she really is enjoying the course. More care homes
should follow suit in trying this method as it does work. The staff are so friendly and the food is great. (I know that as I've had my dinner there plenty of times.) A great big THUMBS UP to you all and thank you for all your care.

After an extremely difficult time and bad experiences with other care providers, our family lost a lot of trust in the care system. In the short time Mum has been there, the management and staff at Royal Care have been able to restore some of that trust and have worked with the family to try and improve
things for us. I'm currently satisfied Mum's needs are being met and this is the first time I've felt this with any care provider.

The manager is very proactive when it comes to Dementia care and very keen to involve the family in all aspects. Staff are friendly and informative when I call and always know how Mum is and what she has been doing. Care plans and procedures are thorough (something we weren't used to before) and the manager went out of her way to support myself and my sister during a really emotional, stressful period.

My Mum has been a resident at Royal Care for just over a month. She has settled very well and is happy in her surroundings. Mum is supported with her daily needs by a caring team of management and staff. A significant amount of stimulation and activities are provided for Mum which she is happy to engage
with. She always looks healthy and well every time we visit. Every member of staff has shown respect and compassion towards our family and are always available to provide information about Mum should we request it. Royal Care has an excellent approach to Dementia Awareness and it is anticipated by myself and my family that the Manager and her team will continue to meet my Mum's changing needs. I would not hesitate in recommending Royal Care as an appropriate care provider for Dementia support.

This home has been a breath of fresh air, both staff and management are very kind and caring and full of enthusiasm. My Mum has settled so well and is much happier since coming here, I can't thank the staff enough as they have done everything above and beyond for my mum, we can even see glimmers of
the woman she once was. The family day we attended a few weeks ago was excellent and so nice to see everyone involved. Staff dressed up 50's theme and the entertainer was amazing. it was so nice to see the residents enjoying themselves singing and dancing, and everyone interacting as one big family. The atmosphere in the home is so calming and friendly, every effort is made to make the place home from home, lovely and clean and food looks lovely. I would recommend this home to anyone. Thank you all staff and management for improving the quality of my Mums life ten-fold, it's a pleasure to visit her once again.

I have recently moved my husband into the Royal Care Home and cannot be happier with my choice. The home is warm, staff are welcoming, and the manager is passionate about the care home. The small details! And the extras they think of just astonish me. My husband has severe dementia but always looks
happy, smart and clean every time I visit. The home offers a variety of activities, as a visitor, I am always encouraged to join in, this is so nice as I feel part of the team. They offer themed parties on a regular basis and base them on the resident's lives and memories, I have their 1950s themed party where the staff dressed in the 1950s fashion, they had a singer and even Elvis appeared. It is wonderful to see so many happy residents, staff dancing, singing and having fun. Dementia can be a cruel illness but I feel my husband is really happy here. I would recommend this home to anyone, please keep up the good work, you are making a real difference to your residents and their family's.
Thank you

My Mum has recently moved here and has settled very quickly. She is comfortable and happy here. The staff are friendly, efficient and very caring. To date, our family are very happy with the service and enormously relieved that the transition has been smooth. All the residents seem contented and well
cared for. The meals are freshly cooked and there are regular activities for the residents.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.600)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.600) out of 10 for Royal Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.794 for Royal Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.794

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.806 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.4 = 0.556

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
