Anchor’s Widnes Hall, in Ditton, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 68 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as providing tailored dementia care. Widnes Hall continues to welcome new residents for residential and residential dementia care.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care, trial stays and long-term care for those who can no longer look after themselves.

The home's care team gets to know customers and works with them to organise stimulating activities which match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community.

Each customer’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements. Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

Anchor is England’s largest provider of housing and care for those over 55 years of age and has 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit provider of services to older people.

My dad absolutely loves all the staff. They treat all the residents with care, compassion and understanding and nothing is too much trouble. I would happily recommend this home to anyone. The staff treat residents and families with respect and are very friendly and welcoming.

The care home rooms are light and spacious and are kept very clean. The staff are very welcoming, approachable and attentive. They have a lovely relationship with my mother and give her lots of time and attention. She is always treated with respect.
The staff are very prompt when sharing information
with the family. I am very happy that my mum is receiving the best care possible and this gives me great peace of mind.

The level of care and attention my nan has received at Widnes Hall, is overwhelmingly positive. She feels secure, welcomed and has flourished since becoming a permanent resident. After many years living by herself and numerous bouts of ill-health, it's comforting for our family to know she has 24/7
support, new friendships, and a healthy diet, tailored to her needs. We're almost sorry we didn't make the move for her years ago.

My great-grandmother is safe and well cared for. Staff are friendly and informative of any changes or concerns and they are approachable and kind. They have weekly GP visits, I feel my nan is happy and well looked after. I visit regularly and am happy with the cleanliness of the home.

I can't praise the staff enough, they have made my mum feel very welcome and she has settled in really well. This transition into a care home was very upsetting at the time for us as a family and was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, but the staff have been amazing and it is such
peace of mind knowing Mum is cared for and looked after so well. It was a joy to actually come across some of the photos of her on the social media site, sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine and an ice cream. All the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you again to all the staff at Widnes Hall.

My mum absolutely loves living at Widnes Hall. She can’t praise the staff enough. Her room is bright, always clean, roomy, and tidy. My mum now looks well cared for and not neglected as she did when living alone.
The social media site shows us that she is laughing and having fun, whilst joining in

The message on arrival concerning testing for Covid was poor and inconsistent. Cleanliness in the rooms could be better, old decaying flowers and vases left in rooms. Absolutely no evidence of any activities for residents, just left to sit around.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and residents, we follow government guidance regarding care home visits. I have passed your comments regarding our rooms to our housekeeping team, who have a regular cleaning programme for all areas of our home. We have a daily, weekly and monthly activities programme which has been created with our resident’s input and this is regularly reviewed. We encourage our residents to participate in our activities however, we respect their wishes if they do not wish to take part.

Upon arrival for our visit, it turned out that there was a miscommunication regarding the Covid tests. This can happen and is no big deal. However, two employees ended up going back and forth between us and the manageress' office to clarify what needed to be done. I was very surprised that the manageress
did not have the decency to come out herself to clarify the situation. I would consider that part of basic customer service. The lack of such does not bode well for the service the residents receive, nor is it a good way to lead by example.

Widnes Hall is welcoming and friendly to all visitors. My grandmother resides there, I know she is happy and well cared for, she is safe and well looked after. I just can't speak too highly of Widnes Hall. My mother has been a resident for the past year, and the care and kindness she receives from every member of staff is just incredible. I had cared for her myself prior to this, and was a little apprehensive of her leaving me - I shouldn't have worried. I
know she is in a safe and loving environment. She is cared for, and it really is one big loving family. I can only hope when I need care there is somewhere like Widnes Hall around.

Overall Widnes Hall is a lovely homely place. Residents' rooms are a good size each with their own private toilet/shower room. The residents are well looked after. The current COVID situation is extremely difficult for everyone, staff, residents and family. Everyone is doing their best in these strange
circumstances although I know my mum is becoming increasingly worried she won't ever be able to go out of the home or that I won't be able to visit her in her room. I'd really like to be able to go into her room to help her sort things out.

I can't give an updated review, not been in the home due to covid19. As a family, we are upset that the garden area has not been maintained and that residents have not been in the garden when the weather allows.

During this Covid crisis, the staff have been amazing and I cannot fault them, however, I feel communication has been very poor from Anchor as a company. I feel updates, eg newsletters are vital and also, what measures will be put in place to see our family when the weather does not allow garden visits?
Also, why can't we form a bubble as I fear for my mum's physical health but her mental health too - I know people have to be safe but if another spike happens we won't see our loved ones. Please give me your feedback on this.

Extremely committed staff, nothing is too much trouble. All residents' families are made welcome and part of a big family. All efforts are made to make residents comfortable and are treated as if they were their own family members. I can't praise them enough.
