I requested this care home for my father due to it being highly recommended and he as been resident here since December 2023. All his care needs are being extremely well met and I am extremely impressed by some of the staff members that go the extra mile. The building itself is spacious and homely and
residents appear to be well cared for. My dad enjoys all his meals and also enjoys having chats with his peers and the staff that care for him. Thank you for looking after my father so well I think he has found an home for life.

Thank you for your positive feedback - It is wonderful to hear. Our staff work so hard and do work above and beyond to ensure that all the care and support delivered is person centred. We do hold regular residents meetings where families are welcome to attend so that family members can have an input on behalf of their loved ones. We recognise that placing loved ones in care can be stressful and upsetting and we will support to make this transition as easy and as comfortable as possible for you and your family. Caring can some days be very difficult but we support our staff through the difficult times, a care home can work with a good management support network and fantastic carers which we are proud to say we have. Once again thank you for the amazing feedback, I will certainly pass this on to our home.

I just wanted to thank everyone at Elmsdene for their kindness and care of my husband, he was there for only a short time before he sadly passed but the way he was cared for was marvellous, nothing was too much trouble, they always made sure he was happy, they made sure he ate which was not easy as
he always said he wasn't there, was always someone there to chat with him when he got unsettled and was wondering about. I was grateful because I knew he was safe under their care. So thank you, I know you did everything you could for him.

My mum has been a resident at the Elmsdene since April 2023.
My dad and I are more than happy with the care she receives, and she has settled in really well. The management and staff are so caring and lovely. It's always very clean and the food is very nice. We would more than recommend the Elmsdene.
We
can't thank them enough for all their care and hard work.

My mum has now escaped from Elmsdene. On 27 March 2024, Mum moved to an outstanding care home. She has not looked back since and I thank God that after months of wrangling and hostility, the manager finally threw my mum out after I had the temerity to send a detailed report on the very poor care she
was receiving to the Care Quality Commission. When we finally got mum to the new home, we discovered that the cruelty inflicted on her was even worse than I had imagined. Elmsdene forced Mum to recline with her feet dangling in the air in a "specialist" chair insisting that her core was so weak she could not sit up. She was fed by a silent member of staff sticking a spoon into her mouth until she had eaten up. Now at almost 99 years of age, Mum is sitting up normally with her feet firmly on the floor and feeding herself. She is benefiting from a quality of life she never experienced under the manager's regime.

My mother has been in Elmsdene for 3 years now, I am extremely happy with the care she's gets. My father was in a nursing home and we hated it, nowhere nearly as good as Elmsdene. The staff are just great and great with me mother. The Managers are excellent at their work. Would recommend Elmsdene Care
Home. Keep up the great work guys!

It's my mum's funeral today. She spent her last year at Elmsdene. The home is totally abysmal. No stimulation at all for the residents. They just sit there rocking and staring at the wall. The commandant in charge hasn't a bone of care in her body.
I believe I was fobbed off with my mum's medical care.
The place according to quality of care is rated 'inadequate' and in my view should be closed down. All my mum wanted was to sit out in the garden. Impossible as it was strewn with rubbish and weeds.
The staff, although very nice, could hardly speak a word of English. Please don't let your loved ones spend the final days of their life in the hovel.

Reply from Heidi Ozols, Manager at Elmsdene Care Home

I would like to send our condolences from Sheridan Care In respect of the death of your mother. We would like to advise that the home is in no way abysmal, it is beautifully decorated throughout and clean for all our residents to use. We also have a new Regional Manager who has over 25 years of knowledge in Nursing, Dementia and Mental Health and she is currently in the process of supporting the homes and management team to complete action plans. Our activities Manager is now in place, implementing a structured activities timetable in place and training the staff to support the residents in activities and person-centred choices. All staff complete service specific training and must complete mandatory training every 12 months. The garden was not in use during the winter months and this has now been rectified for summer. All sponsored staff have to complete an English Exam and must pass this before commencing employment. Residents and families are supported to engage in care planning.

My father has been at Elmsdene Care Home for many years. It was quite recently been taken over by another company. The new manager has been so helpful and informative regarding my father's care and mental well-being. The manager is always easy to get hold of and is responsive to my calls and emails.
The
rest of the Elmsdene care team is always brilliant and always keeps me in the loop with what’s happening with my dad. I live a long distance from the care home.
I would recommend Elmsdene and I cannot thank them enough for caring for my dad on a day-to-day basis and being responsive to his very individual and unique health and care needs.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.186)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.186) out of 10 for Elmsdene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.928 for Elmsdene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (53 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (17 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 3.928

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.258 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elmsdene Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.758

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
