King Edward is an outstanding care home and enshrines the best practices of person-centred dementia care. The manager and her staff are fantastic. My mum moved here in March from another care home. The change in her demeanour was immediate. She is happy and settled, she has been able to help herself
with drinks and meals which the other care home would not allow. She even says a few words sometimes which she had not done for a long time before the move. The staff are always cheerful and very kind to the residents. They take my mum by the hand and gently coax her to talk to them and sometimes she will answer them although she always lets them know when she has had enough! My mum has just celebrated her 99th birthday. I thank God that she celebrated it at King Edward. I cannot thank the owners, the manager, and the care staff enough for the wonderful care they are giving to my mum. They respect my mum's dignity and care for her and the other residents as if they are much-loved family members.

I frequently visit my sister at the King Edward Care Home. I am amazed at how brilliant the manager and the staff are. They have had to put up with a lot these last few years with covid, but they have kept the residents safe and happy I could not fault them.
The care home is so clean and tidy and they
cannot do enough for the residents and always keep families updated. The manager is amazing, she knows so much about dementia and the illnesses that could arise within the care home. It is a lovely small care home and suits my sister so much which makes me feel she's in the best place.
Keep up the good work, I am so grateful to you all.

I visited my sister at King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia in May 2021 and felt very reassured that she was being well looked after. The manager is really warm, caring and knowledgeable and clearly had built up a really good relationship with my sister. The home appeared to be very clean, well
organised and professionally run.

I visited my Aunty at King Edward Care Home in May 2021 and I was so impressed. It’s very clean and well run and most importantly, the staff genuinely care about the residents and have a great relationship with them. The manager is brilliant - really kind, caring, friendly and professional and so great
with my Aunty.

My mother has been at King Edward for the past few weeks after a hospital stay. She has settled in well and tells me all the time how wonderful the girls are who look after her, and she very much enjoys the food. Because of Covid restrictions, I haven't been able to go inside, but I have been in the
conservatory to visit, and from what I cam see, the rooms inside are light and airy, well lit and nicely decorated. There is always lovely music, and the manager and staff are so friendly.

My lifetime friend became a resident this year. I cannot express how happy myself and her family are at how well she has settled in.
We are extremely happy with the care and support she is receiving and from photographs received by the manager, my friend looks amazing she looks happy again a look we
haven’t seen in a very long time. A huge thank you to the manager and all the staff.

My step father-in-law was admitted to King Edward Care Home in August, having spent the previous 6 weeks being treated at various hospitals in Lancashire. The manager and staff at the home were very professional and cared for him diligently in a strict Covid-19 lockdown time where the family and friends
were unable to visit, relying instead on phone calls to keep in touch.

My mum has been a resident at King Edward for about a year, and I cannot fault the care she receives. Throughout lockdown, the home has remained Covid free, and the safety and welfare of the residents have always been the manager's prime concern. I have been able to have garden visits and video calls
with my mum and the home are also building a special visitors room. Because the manager feels that my mum's mental health has been suffering due to the lockdown, I have been able to visit her in her room, which has been fantastic and very reassuring! King Edward is a small home, and the staff know the residents really well. They are like a big family, and it has been an enormous relief to know that my mum has been kept so safe during the last few months.

Mum received a very high level of care at King Edward. The staff were dedicated and very caring under the manager's professional management. Mum lived in the care home for 18 months after settling in well and being very chatty, she loved her new friends. The owners of the care home continue to invest
in the care home and respond to the needs of the residents. They are currently building an additional room responding to the restrictions caused by Covid.
Mum enjoyed the food and the environment which feels like home. I always knew mum was being looked after which helped to put my mind at rest. Sadly mum passed away recently, I was able to visit mum when I wanted. The care home provided the highest level of care to mum during her final days ensuring her final days were as comfortable as possible. Thank you.

When I was looking for a dementia care home for my mum, I was looking for a combination of ‘home from home’ and an experienced team. We had visited and spoken to many homes and it wasn’t until I walked into King Edward did I find what I was looking for. The team treat the residents with the important
combination of dignity, compassion and nothing is too much trouble attitude. My mum has been very happy and I can’t thank them enough. Thanks to all.

King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia specialist care home is the most caring and considerate place you could wish for. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, they have shown the utmost concern for the residents. The manageress and her staff go the extra mile to look after our mother and all the residents.
We have regular updates on their health and well-being and photos and videos of activities.
V.E. Day was a really good example when they decorated the home, had fancy hats and flags, music of the era and a tea party.
We have since been given a laminated sheet with a message from the staff and on the reverse our mother's handprint inside a heart with the message "like a handprint on my heart". This week they gave us a glass sphere on a stand with feathers and a cherub inside, surrounded by rosebuds and the wording on the sphere "with love from Mum".
These are all things that show their care and affection which means a lot to us all. They are all a credit to the care industry and we consider ourselves very lucky that our mum is a resident at this care home.

My nan recently became a resident at the home and couldn't be happier. The manager and the team are absolutely fantastic, they can't do enough and go out of their way to make the residents feel special - they even held a VE Day party which looked amazing. Whilst we're in lockdown and I'm unable to visit,
the team have been helping to keep communication open between myself and my nan and call me on a regular basis (I've even held a video call with my nan for the first time ever!) Thank you so much for everything you do!

As a family, accepting that our mum was no longer able to live safely alone, was difficult and challenging to say the least. We found the situation and the all-consuming guilt unbearable at times and couldn't see a happy outcome for mum or for us. Two months down the line, we are amazed at mum's transformation!
Since becoming a resident at the King Edward she has regained her ability to communicate, is mobile and has a great rapport with the staff. Most pleasing and surprising is that mum has rediscovered her appetite and is not only eating well but is looking forward to her meals and actually enjoying them! She has started to put on weight and is physically stronger as a result. The staff are brilliant! A small and exceptionally well-managed team who know the residents well and genuinely care for their wellbeing. Everybody is treated with respect and dignity and we are confident that mum is safe and well cared for. As visitors, we are made to feel welcome and part of the King Edward family.

Extremely well managed home. Mother-in-law now been here 2 months and has settled in well. Staff always on hand to help. Good variety of activities and special effort made to make Christmas a treat for everyone. Have also met the owner who also made himself known to us. The manager always checks with
the family to make sure our mum's needs are cared for. Nothing too much trouble. She had her hair and nails done within a few days of arriving. Nicely decorated with bright and airy feeling.

My aunt has lived in the home for a few years. I struggle to visit often as I live away. Each time I visit I am always greeted with the utmost respect by staff and managers. My aunt can be challenging at times and I have witnessed how professional the staff are with her. I would really recommend this
home, they are excellent getting the best out of dementia residents. The food always looks tasty.

Absolutely fantastic home, the manager and staff are great. Always doing something with the residents, painting, nails, games. The manager gets on the same level as the residents, always smiling. Always doing hands-on care which you don't see very often. The staff are pleasant and welcoming. The home
has had a brand new refurbishment and looks very nice

My mother has been a resident at the King Edward Care home since 2015. During this time she has been treated with utmost respect and dignity. The staff are very caring and understanding of the residents' needs. It is a loving and friendly atmosphere in what at times can be very challenging situations.
Mum is no longer mobile but is not left in her room. She is up and dressed in the lounge with all the other residents. She recently celebrated her 105th birthday and the staff put on a fantastic party which was attended by about 25 guests including family and friends. The dining room was dressed for a party and the food was lovely. We have not had cause to complain or be worried about the care and attention our mother receives.

The Management and staff were amazing and the care that our friend received was exemplary. He settled in very easily and despite his dementia, it was easy to see he was calm and contented. We are only sorry that his stay was curtailed due to external influences. We would thoroughly recommend King Edward

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.385)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.385) out of 10 for King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.385 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 13 registered maximum number of service users is 2.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.6 = 0.385

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
