A very caring homely little home with not too many residents so the staff can be very attentive they care for my nana so well! We are made very welcome when we visit which is several times a day every day! The manager is amazing as so all the girls really loving and patient we feel so lucky to have
found this little gem of a home when you read so many nasty stories. My nana had no appetite when she left hospital and they have built her up so much with lovely home cooked meals.

King Edward is a lovely home, small with only 12 residents. It's bright and airy, smells fresh and the bedrooms are a nice size. The staff are wonderful, caring and attentive. My aunty has settled in really well, which I'm still surprised about. We looked at a few different homes before setting
with King Edward and I'm glad we did.

My father was admitted as an emergency admission as we were in crisis at home. His wife was also struggling with her health and could no longer care for my father. The staff in the home are exceptional. They are caring to all residents and all have an excellent rapport with both residents and relatives.
They are aware of all residents needs and do strive to ensure all individual's care are met. I am so sorry that my father cannot stay at King Edward, but due to his deteriorating health, he needs more complex care. I would not hesitate to recommend this home and will continue to praise the work and care given on a daily basis to people who need their help. Once again thank you for all your care and compassion. The reason for my marks below are dad has only been a resident for 9 days and during that time I did not see any activities being undertaken, although I did see some fun pictures of activities carried out in the past.

Due to the very nature of care homes, a family tend only to come in contact with them when a loved one is in difficulty. I recently found myself in this situation, as with many families children often live miles away from their parents, and in my case, my father lives in Blackpool and I live in North
Norfolk. My father’s health and mental well-being had deteriorated dramatically, meaning that he could no longer be taken care of at home, and so the difficult decision to find a suitable home was made. The support that we received from the staff the day that he arrived was exceptional. Their calm professionalism was reassuring and compassionate, particularly when dealing with my father and stepmother. I cannot praise enough the level of support and service that we have received, and we now have the peace of mind knowing that my father is safe and having all his needs taken care of with great dignity. This allows us to enjoy time with him as family, rather than spending that time as carers.

We moved my mother to the King Edward earlier this year from a larger home, because we believed she would benefit from being in a smaller place with a more personal service. We chose the King Edward because it fitted this criteria, whilst also specialising in caring for residents with dementia, which
my mother suffers from. It was immediately clear that we had made the right decision. This is an excellent, comfortable and friendly home, and the management and staff are outstanding in their care and treatment of my mother, and the other residents. She settled in very well, and very quickly and I would not hesitate in recommending this care home to anybody looking for a safe and friendly environment for their relative.

Always greeted with a friendly welcome. My mother was not the easiest of residents. She has settled in well now, enjoys her sherry in the evening, great that I am allowed to speak to mum on the phone day or night. Good that they have outsiders providing activities in the home/music/prayer/hairdressers
ect. We take mum out regularly and the home always have her ready for us, (she likes to spend 30 minutes in the bathroom) All residents appear happy and mum insists she is back by 4:430 for tea. When I leave my mum always thanks me for coming kisses me and smiles. Excellent care.

This small care home is very clean, bright and well laid out. It has a lovely large lounge, separate dinning room and toileting facilities downstairs. There is a large, modern lift to access the first floor. Mum has a good sized bedroom with lovely décor and bedding. She also has her own en-suite comprising
of toilet and basin. The staff work hard looking after their residents and provide lovely home cooked food which mum very much enjoys. All the staff are cheerful, approachable, good at listening, helpful and very skilled at taking care of the needs of all their residents. Hence, there is always a pleasant relaxed atmosphere when I visit. Consequently mum seems happy and has settled well since arriving five months ago.

During my mums period of permanent residence, commencing October 2012 (until end August 2015), all staff strove to meet mums care and support needs. Dignity, privacy and the right to choose and to make choices as informed as possible were always maintained. Communication barriers in terms of supporting
mums lack of hearing, were discussed with myself and between the staff team. Any matters relating to health and well being were always raised with me and fully discussed and solutions shared. The staff team were prepared to listen, in order to understand mums sometimes challenging and changing requirements. The planning of care meticulously reflected all efforts to get to know mum and engage her trust. As a relative I was also supported well. Safeguarding of residents was observable, as was theirs and (mums) cleanliness. End of life care was compassionate and comforting.

Mum was only there 2 months then died suddenly after a stroke. The home only has 11 residents which makes it cosy and more personal. The staff are loving and caring. Mum was cared for very well, the rooms are bright and tasteful. I would recommend King Edward Care for the Elderly. My mum was very happy
there.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.385 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for King Edward Care for the Elderly Dementia is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 13 registered maximum number of service users is 2.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.6 = 0.385

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
