My father came to positive steps in late February this year, a little bit apprehensive about what to expect.
After a couple of days, he felt so at home with the care he received, the meals he received and the overall 'well factor'.
Everyone treated him with dignity and respect and he was genuinely
sad when it was time for him to move on.
On behalf of me and my sister, a big thank you to everyone at Positive Steps. Well done!

My mum, who suffers from Alzheimer's, was referred to Postive Step after a hospital stay following a fall. She received kind, patient and attentive care from the staff, who were flexible about our visits given we weren't local. The staff to resident ratios were such that residents received the personal
input and stimulation they required. The facility was very clean and well kept and Mum's room was spacious and comfortable. The involvement of Positive Step's social worker, care staff and other health professionals really helped us to decide on the next best step for Mum's care. Mum's stay, just over a month, at Positive Step was good for her and our family, as it gave us the time and professional input to decide on and organise her future care. If your family member is referred to this facility, my experience is that they will be very well looked after.

Recently my father has spent 3 weeks at this residential home as part of his rehabilitation.
His progress here was beyond my expectations and with the excellent care , physio and nursing needs my father was able to go back home .
The bedrooms could be a little more inviting ,however the home throughout
is very clean .
Day rooms have lots of light and space to enable residents to walk around freely.
I would like to thank everyone concerned for their efforts and care and kindness that I witnessed here .

After a fall just before Christmas, Mum's care needs changed. As she also had an infection I was not even sure what her care needs were as they changed day to day. She was being pushed to leave hospital, but I was stuck to know where she should be.
Mum was admitted to Positive Step and they have been
brilliant. She only needed to be there for ten days as they are an assessment centre so she was comprehensively assessed. They had a case of diarrhoea and vomiting, which meant she was actually there for nearer to three weeks as the place was locked down to prevent infection, but Mum was not ill herself and these things happen.
Moving forward, Mum still has difficulties, but after her assessment, I can be sure of what she needs and am better able to help her.
The surroundings were plain but clean. The staff were great and supportive. The Christmas party was fabulous (before the D and V). I would have preferred extended visiting hours on Christmas day, but that is a small thing.

My mum was in a hospital for a few weeks and was going downhill rapidly. She had had a fall and as she has dementia was very confused. She went into Positive Steps just before Christmas and we were all very worried. She was going to be assessed to see if she needed to go in a full-time care home. The
nurses and carers were all lovely and happy to talk with family and to reassure my mum who was very tearful but after a few weeks she came on leaps and bounds and made lots of lovely friends. After six weeks she was returned to her home as the team thought she would be able to cope. She is still doing great although she is lonely on her own and I think the residential environment suited her and wouldn't be upset for her if she went in a full-time home in the future.

The staff and carers at this unit are extremely professional and genuinely care about the patients which is exactly what is needed for our loved ones. I cannot thank them enough for the care we have received both for our loved one and ourselves. They keep us informed as much as possible as visitors
as well as providing a high standard of care in the day to day running of the home. I just wish the NHS could provide them with more staff as they are working flat out and have so much paperwork to complete it is almost asking the impossible of them to do the job they are doing but I would highly recommend this home to anyone! Thank you for everything.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.366)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.366) out of 10 for Positive Step is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.955 for Positive Step is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 4.955

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.411 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Positive Step is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7 = 0.286

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
