I want to express our sincere gratitude for the exceptional care my mum has received since moving into Thorndene. From the moment she arrived, she felt completely settled, and it has been heart-warming to see her thrive in such a wonderful environment. Her appetite has improved tremendously, she often
comments on how much she enjoys the delicious, home-cooked meals. The carers are truly wonderful, and the open-door policy of the management team has been incredibly reassuring. The entire staff, both carers and managers, have created such a warm, homely atmosphere. It feels like a family, and it's clear that everyone cares deeply for the residents. we are confident that placing Mum at Thorndene was the best decision. She's not just living she's thriving. Her room feels like home, thanks to the personal touches we were able to bring from her own house. We would absolutely recommend Thorndene to anyone seeking a care home with a family-oriented, homely feel.

Awful, gloomy, depressing place. The care staff try their best but the building and facilities are clapped out and clearly let down by poor management and a lack of investment. The rooms are very poor, both in terms of the state of repair, and the quality, quantity and suitability of the furniture.
The lounge smells and the residents just sit around the outside staring at each other or the TV for most of the day. There is little evidence of organised activities or any visits outside the home. The dining room is also clapped out. Tables are clean but sticky. If your relative is self-funding they can do much better for the same price elsewhere. Nice staff, let down by extremely poor infrastructure and facilities, poor management and a lack of investment.

I am shocked to read your review. You stated the home is 'gloomy and depressing', yet the home has undergone an intensive redecoration plan, including bright dementia friendly colours throughout. The home has had new vinyl flooring laid throughout along with a large purchase of new chairs for the residents. Activities are ongoing throughout the day; these may be one-to-one sessions or group activities. The home also hosts theme nights and other events to stimulate our residents. We have not had any previous concerns relating to the cleanliness of the home, we have regular inspections from the local infection control team who are happy with our IPC control measures. I am saddened to hear of your experience and again slightly confused as it does not reflect the current condition of Thorndene, before the finance department made contact with yourself relating to payments, you had made no concerns or indicated in any way you were not happy with the infrastructure of Thorndene.

My mother stayed here for over 2 years and spoke very little English. Thankfully, the management hired 2 staff members who spoke the same language as my mother to aid her and they also used a translating tool to help. The care is the best in this home, thank you so much.

The care and compassion the staff show my mum is second to none. Staff are always friendly and helpful and show they really care for the residents. The meals sound wonderful as mum tells me. As a family, we feel very supported by the staff. They are wonderful to Mum and very thoughtful. Mum has settled
well into her new home, and we are very grateful for all they do.

My mum was admitted to Thornedene after a long stay in hospital in October 2020 during the Covid pandemic. I cannot thank the staff at Thornedene for their compassion and understanding in what was a very distressing time for me and my sister. My mum has been looked after with such care and love. I have
visited Mum for the first time last week due to Covid restrictions, and I can honestly say she looked lovely and had definitely recuperated well. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I would definitely recommend Thornedene.

My mum was a resident at Thorndene for almost 6-years. She was always very well looked after. All the staff are friendly and approachable. They treat residents as though they were their own family. I cannot thank the manager and the girls enough for all that they did for Mum.

My mum has been here since the beginning of 2016. The staff are doing an amazing job. My mum is well cared for. She has a lovely time with everyone and she is spoilt rotten. The management team and the new owners are so friendly and have an open door policy. If you have any concerns with your family
member's care, they will sort it right away.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.099)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.099) out of 10 for Thorndene is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.167 for Thorndene is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.167

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.932 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thorndene is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.4 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
