Priestley Care Home in Birstall offers high-quality residential care as well as respite care.

There are 40 ensuite bedrooms and residents are encouraged to decorate their rooms with personal items so it feels like home to them. There is a beauty salon where residents can go and be pampered and a whole range of activities from arts and crafts to gardening and exercise classes.

Staff are caring and compassionate and are committed to giving person-centred care where the residents' wellbeing is their priority.

I really enjoyed my week stay at Priestly Care Home and can only praise the staff there who went above and beyond the call of duty not only for myself but all residents and families alike.
Beautiful home and very clean and welcoming.

This care home welcomed my mum with open arms for a respite stay of 2 weeks. She was treated with friendliness and respect from all the staff and enjoyed her stay, particularly the shower facility which she used twice. The home was accommodating of her desire to bring in her own chair and mattress and
her need for daily bananas and particular bread. My big regret is that this home will possibly not be offering respite beds in the future, a necessary lifeline for us family coping with elderly parents in their own home.


Improvements would be - more reclining chairs in the public lounges as my mum wasn't comfortable sitting on the chairs that were provided and more stimulating activities for residents who still have mental capacity.

Everyone was very friendly, caring and kind. Very welcoming when first arrived, lots of activities, music and talking. I am sure my mum put on weight with all the food and lovely puddings they were given to eat.

The care and kindness given to my mother was an extremely high standard. All the staff have shown that they are well trained and have a high regard for all relatives and residents. I can't praise them enough.

I got a wonderful welcome. I felt cold, afraid and alone. They gave me a cup of tea, some dinner and put a jumper on me. I'll never forget that welcome. I had a lovely room. It was like a hotel. I could keep myself to myself or join if I wanted. I got on with all the patients and the staff. Staff were
helpful, good-natured and created a happy atmosphere. The food was good. It tasted homemade. There was a good choice and the portion size suited me.
The hairdressing was top class. They knew what they were doing and I was pleased with the result. Problems were that my TV didn't work properly, it took four days to get cream for my sore skin. My emergency card broke and wasn't put back. Bells kept me awake at night and light flooding into my room when staff opened the door.

My mother has been at the home for several months now and has received great care and kindness from all of the staff. They are all prepared to go the extra mile to make sure that my mum is happy and settled. Everyone is always bright and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. It is reassuring to
know that she is in such good and caring hands.

My aunt came to Priestley in November 2015. I visited other homes and decided on Priestley after my first visit where I got a good feeling about the care. The staff are a good working team and gel well together. The manager and two deputies are very hands on and are always well informed. They are always
willing to answer any questions/concerns. My aunt settled quickly and has a much better quality of life under their care. Well done to everyone at Priestley.

My mum went to Priestley Care Home in January 2015 after a time spent in hospital. She had previously been very healthy and living independently. This sudden decline necessitated the need to have 24 hour care.


Despite illness, and challenging behaviour on occasion, the staff were kind, caring and

went over and above what they needed to do. They really cared about her as well as caring for her.


This was particularly evident when, after a serious accident and hospital stay, her needs increased. The compassion she was shown by the staff during this time was immense. I won't name any particular member of staff, they were all brilliant, even throughout the night.


I was apprehensive when she was first admitted. I had no need to be. One of the things they said, on many occasions, was "we're not here JUST for your mum, we're here for you as well". Sadly my mum died just before her 91st birthday in June 2016.


Excellent staff, very good care, as good as it can be.

Hi, My name is Shelley and I am the registered manager of Priestley Care Home and have worked in care for over 30 years. I originally started out working in the community environment for Age Concern, a job that gave me the direction to follow a career in care homes. I started working at Priestley Care Home in 2007, employed initially as a senior carer. I enjoyed working with the residents and would often give up my free time to join in and organise activities and events that the residents would enjoy. I was promoted to Deputy Manager of the home in 2011 at which time I learned more about the running of the home allowing me to continue working on my NVQs, I’m now qualified for NVQ Level 5. When the opportunity arose I progressed to home manager in 2014.


I maintain the ethos that the residents are at the very centre of life at Priestley Care Home and I ensure that their home and environment are welcoming and comforting. One of my proudest achievements as a manager is our current Good rating from CQC.


I have lived in the Birstall area for the last thirty-six years and was raised in Batley Carr. I have 5 grown-up children and many grandchildren. I know the local area very well and I have spent my entire career at Priestley promoting and maintaining strong relationships with the homes community. I enjoy holidays, walking, crafting spending time with my family. My hobbies are often transferred into Priestley I will often make things for the residents to enjoy and I also donate these items to help raise money for the home's residents' fund.
