My mother has had respite care 2-3 times a year for the last four years so we can go on holiday. We are always happy to leave her there as the things that matter to her are willingly provided. She is a devoted catholic and the staff help her attend mass further up the road.


They help her shower

and provide a commode, as she is used to at home. The place is clean, comfortable and friendly. Mum is 90 and a bit forgetful, but she is treated with respect and welcomed by the residents she has grown to know. It means I can have the odd break from caring duties without worrying.

My aunt was made really happy at the care home and the staff treated her with great kindness, dignity and respect. She lived there for the final two years of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed the environment and experience. Following a stroke the staff responded by taking her back into palliative
care and they gave her the best possible end to her 96 years.

The management and all staff clearly care for and know how to look after my Aunt. All her caring needs are met her room is clean and generally well maintained- when she had skin problems it should have been arranged for the cleaner to hoover the carpet more often. All her clothes and linen are washed
and ironed very well - turn around time is very good. Any mislaid clothes are found! Her medical care is generally very good- they are attentive and quick to react to her needs. All hospital appointments and visits are well managed - correct taxis ordered and a carer arranged. Very, very rarely the home has a smell which is quickly sorted. My Aunt is very happy at Headingley Hall.

During the ten years in which my aunty lived at Headingley Hall, she was treated with respect, compassion and dignity. What I particularly liked was the friendliness of the staff, their welcoming outlook and the fact that my aunty had fun with them. Her independence was nurtured and cherished her idiosyncrasy
were accepted and when we lost my aunty her passing was really mourned by the staff who did care for her.

My disabled brother with learning difficulties has lived here for 2 years. He is 69 years old. Also my sister has lived here for 9 months. She is 76 years old. They are in rooms next door to each other. I can honestly say the staff are lovely. The home is "homely" it is well laid out with different
kinds of rooms and different sizes. The meals are lovely- plenty of choice always something happening for residents who want to take part. The home "smells" nice as you go in. I feel at home when I go and have asked to go on the waiting list for when it is my turn to be cared for. I am 70, I have seen lots of homes but this is the best.

Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer about 6 weeks ago. He refused to eat initially and then wouldn't drink. The staff have been supportive to Dad and us as a family. The level of care to dad was excellent. He was shown respect, his personal care was always attended to and he was made as comfortable as
he could be. He was confined to bed towards the end and was turned every 1 and a half hours to prevent pressure sores. Dad was very happy living here and I'm so grateful he has the care that enabled him to stay here till he passed away.

Charlie Render

Job Title: Interim Manager, Headingley Hall Care Home

I started working in care 24 years ago when I was 16 years old as a weekend job whilst studying for my A-levels.


I progressed into working with elderly adults with learning difficulties and led a group of young adults with Down Syndrome to work within the care industry themselves, supporting them with a career in catering and social care.


I left that role to attend University in Leeds where I studied Interdisciplinary English Literature and History.


After a brief stint working in finance, I made a decision to return to care and remain in Leeds and before I knew it, I gained a job at Headingley Hall 14 years ago and have never looked back.

I started as a night care assistant before progressing into a Senior Carer role. This made me realise that this was my chosen profession. Seeing the difference, I could make in someone's life by ensuring their health and well-being were as supported as possible gave me satisfaction.


I discovered a keen taste for liaising and providing support to all health professionals who visited Headingley Hall. By working alongside the health professionals and gaining their knowledge and experience, I was able to review our service users with a holistic approach and ensure care remained person-centred.


Since then, I progressed to the Deputy Manager role at Headingley Hall and completed my Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care.


My learning continues every day and I continue to love the challenges each day throws at me. I am excited about the opportunity to lead as Interim Manager and I hope my future continues to progress within the care sector.


Sharon

Sharon Earnshaw

Job Title: Operations Manager

Joined: 2003

Sharon joined the care team at Headingley Hall in June 2003 as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Care Manager, taking on full responsibility for the care delivered to the residents in June 2011. She became the home’s General Manager in October 2012.


Sharon has worked in care homes since leaving school at 17. She started as a Care Assistant and rose through the ranks to Senior Care Assistant and Residential Co-ordinator before leaving her first care home to join Headingley Hall. Sharon is now the Operations Manager who oversees the overall activities across Westward Care Services.


Sharon believes that good communication skills and developing excellent relationships with residents and their families are key to providing outstanding care and support to everyone.


Elaine

Elaine Yechezkel

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2010

Elaine has worked in administration since the age of 17.


Her prior experience involved working in an import/export company, an international charity and a furniture manufacturing company before coming to work at Headingley Hall in 2010.


Part of Elaine's role is to provide full admin support to the General Manager and Heads of Departments across the care home and retirement apartments.


Elaine is also involved in managing the enquiries for the home and she is passionate about ensuring families have smooth transitions to the home when making this important decision.
