Priory care Residential Home is a privately-owned Cottingham care home providing professional, individual and compassionate care in a friendly, welcoming environment.

The home has undergone a full refurbishment in the recent years and now has a residential unit with large lounge area, access to the garden area, dedicated activity space and its own hairdressers. Upstairs is a specialised dementia unit with a sensory garden in the grounds of the home.

The last section of the home is the palliative/end of life care part, which is complete with large bright rooms, facilities for families to stay overnight, a kitchenette area and a family lounge area perfect for the full family to visit.

It aims to be more than just a standard care facility as it strives to make each resident's home a place where they can retain independence, personal freedom and live out their lives with enjoyment and fulfilment.

The staff have many years of experience providing care to older people in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, where all services are designed to ensure that care home residents are happy and that individual care needs are met. Care workers treat all residents as they would wish to be treated themselves and believe that while old age, dementia or confusion might mean they can no longer live alone, it should not mean any loss of privacy, dignity or respect.

Priory Care accept private clients as well as local authority-funded clients, and welcomes day care visitors and those who have short-term respite needs.

My sister and I had to try and pick a suitable care home for my father who was coming out of hospital needing palliative care. The welcome we received, along with a viewing of the facilities immediately made this home stand out above the others we had viewed. After moving my father in, we had time to
look more closely and were relieved to find that the whole place was absolutely spotless, with good security, and above all, the most wonderful staff. My father soon moved towards the end of his life, after which, five family members stayed with my father over three days. There was a lovely lounge for us to use with drinks and snacks always available, plus the food that was provided for us whenever we needed it, we wanted for nothing. Thinking about the staff fills me with gratitude because they were the most wonderful, sensitive, caring group of people I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. They made our emotional journey completely stress free. Thank you so much, everyone.

My auntie went into Priory Care initially as a respite resident. Having Dementia she was unable to take care of herself properly at home and with family doing as much as possible we were unable to give her the round the clock care and company she needed due to our own circumstances.
As soon as we
walked into Priory Care it felt right. She is so happy there and we are content that she is being looked after and enjoying herself daily. The staff are brilliant and she regularly tells us about her daily activities. They keep it fun and full of life. They provide stability and a proper home. When we can't always get there to visit, we know she is safe and in great hands. The staff are friendly, approachable and nothing is too much trouble.

It was an exceptionally difficult decision for us to make, on Mum's behalf, however, all the staff have treated Mum with dignity and respect and I have been reassured by the continued level of support. If Mum wants to join in any of the many activities, then that's great, however, if she needs some
quiet time in her room the carers check on her frequently.
Mum doesn't always want to eat and this is flagged up to us if it becomes a concern, which again assures us that her needs are being met. The staff on a whole are wonderful, truly caring about their residents. Lots of stimuli provided by the team ensures that health and social aspects of the resident's lives can be and are improved. In many ways, it has been a step forward.
One concern, however, is the availability of fans to cool the resident's rooms or lounge area as these operate on a shared basis.
Thank you, everyone, for all your care, attention, laughs and such a friendly environment. We positively made the right choice for Mum.

Our mum has now been in this care home for 10 months, initially as respite following serious health problems and a time in hospital. Ideally, she would like to be living back in her own house but that is not realistic. The home is kept extremely clean and tidy and the staff are professional and caring.
I especially liked the duck eggs that were at the home around Easter time. Mum had loved watching them hatch and then seeing them grow for the short time they remained at the home.

Priory is a very friendly, welcoming place for residents and visitors. My relative can, at times, display very challenging behaviour due to illness yet the staff are always caring. They respond to him calmly, listen to him and I feel that he is safe there and well looked after, whatever is happening.
The staff contact us promptly if there are any issues.
The home is always clean and is modern and bright with age-appropriate pictures. My uncle enjoys the food and it's good that the residents are given choices.

At times, meal times have been mixed up with food orders/requests.
On two occasions have forgotten to bring food to the resident's room.
Rooms are modern but very small and dark.
Food in the evening made by care staff should be a much higher standard.
Staff asked to do too much, including evening
meals.

As per conversation with the care manager last week, we confirmed that your dad was offered lunch/tea but as he was busy, he refused and we returned at a later time. The room your dad is in you chose personally, we did offer you other rooms that were brighter and bigger, and you chose the room in question, so think this is unfair to mention. We have over and above staffing numbers at all times. Evening meals are prepped and cooked by the kitchen staff not care staff. Only special last minute request by residents are then cooked by care staff in the evening, as no request is too big for our team.

The home is advertised as having daily activities for residents and it is also mentioned on a board with pictures in the lounge. On various visits during the week and weekends by family and friends since August we've only seen 2 occasions where any activity is being done. Staff don't seem to interact
with residents very often they are usually on the computer with their back to the residents or chatting.


Some of the things on the television I don't feel are appropriate for people suffering from dementia ie Jeremy Kyle (lots of shouting). I feel that music from various eras would be more suitable. Some staff go out of their way to inform you what's happening with your relative whereas with some it feels like hard work and that you are putting them out.


All in all we are happy with the care she receives. Mum seems happy and settled. I feel there are some areas for improvement however.

We feel my mum is happy in the home, however, some staff appear to be more interested in my mum than others. On several occasions when visiting, friends and family have noticed that there don't appear to be activities going on even though they are up on the board. I believe that some of your staff are
going above and beyond but some just do what is required.

The staff are all very caring and we feel as though we are listened to when we had concerns and that Mum is in safe hands. No complaints but a couple of suggestions. Residents in shared rooms need to have a curtain or screen between beds, that can be pulled across for their dignity when having personal
care e.g. Washing, changing etc. Also, bed bound are not included in activities for more mobile residents, so for them could you provide something e.g. Hand and foot massage or someone to just come into their rooms and spend quality time talking to them etc.

The home is well run and well managed. Small details are attended to quickly when noted. All of the staff respond quickly and accept - point of contact, responsibility. Care provided is of an exceptional quality and delivered with an understanding of the importance of dignity and personal privacy. The
staff and shift management are helpful and friendly and engage well with the residents. Issues are dealt with immediately. We are satisfied and impressed.

I cannot fault Priory Care Home. All the staff are friendly, caring and approachable. My father was made to feel very welcome on his arrival and has adapted to life in the care home.

Myself and my sister feel our mum is extremely well cared for by very caring staff. We feel she is treated with respect and dignity at all times, which is very important to us. Her room is kept immaculate along with the communal areas.
According to Mum, the food at meal times is excellent.

My mother is treated with care and consideration by the staff and management, and I have found everyone to be friendly and approachable. Any problems or issues have been dealt with quickly and tactfully. The standard of cleanliness in the home is excellent, and laundry is also excellent. My only slight
disappointment is that maybe they could do a bit more in the way of activities though I do realise that sometimes it can be difficult getting elderly people to join in!! Overall, I am very pleased with my mothers care. Thank you.

Priory Care Home was fantastic during the transition phase of settling mum into their dementia unit providing me with regular phone calls. Mum settled within a few days and has enjoyed the company of the staff and other residents. She is so expertly cared for, safe, clean and dressed appropriately.
This was not the case when she was living alone. She does miss her garden and would value activities based on gardening if appropriate. I would not hesitate in recommending Priory Care Home.

Elaine Bismor

Elaine Bismor is the care home Manager and Owner, She is a very hand’s on Manager who believes that a Care home should always feel warm, inviting.
Elaine has worked in the care industry all her working life, and has owned Priory care since 2015 and now runs the home with her family. She is also registered manager at The Old Coach house - Hessle and she was as a nurse at Hull Royal Infirmary.


In her job role Elaine has the overall responsibility for the smooth running of the home and to make sure the residents are receiving the best care possible at all times by being a proactive hands on manager. Elaine manages the staff team to a very high standard ensuring that home meets and exceeds the various demands of inspection and all regulations.


Elaine has a string qualifications including but not limited to:

I am part of running the day-to-day business future-proofing the business for years to come.


I love working in a caring environment on a daily basis, we are always having a laugh and joking around the home and ensuring the residents are living a fulfilled life.
