My mother entered Hallgarth Residential Home in 2014 on a respite session after problems in medication and beginnings of Vascular dementia and never left. She thoroughly enjoyed her time in the home and took part in several of the events and games ,even winning a gold medal along with other team members
in a county game of boules. Her time was made even better by the staff who looked after her and by the staff member who organised all the activities.
Management also played a significant part in enabling the smooth running of the home.
She passed away in March 2023 at the grand age of 99 , three months short of her 100 birthday.
To show our thanks and gratitude we provided the home with a bench and plaque.

Mum has been in Hallgarth for 5 years, and initially went in for respite care, but never left. Mum has vascular dementia and is disabled, she now gets the attention she needs 24/7, which was proving difficult in her own home. The changes along the way with Mum's health have been challenging, the Care
Home has always been there to help and support with decisions required to make Mum's life more comfortable. The care given to Mum by all the staff is beautiful, and caring as if she is their own family member. This comes from the cleaning staff, carers and management. Mum has been seriously ill at times and hospitalised, and eventually moved to end-of-life care. Fortunately, Mum wasn't ready to leave us all at that time and is still here 1 year later getting the care she needs. There was no hesitation from the Care Home to bring her back to the home so they could care for her to the end, whenever that day was to come. Mum has formed beautiful relationships with her carers, they all show her love and respect.

Hall Garth is such a happy place. My mum has moved into long-term care following us caring for her at home for the last 2 years and the manager has been superb in helping us with the transition and settling Mum in. The staff are fab, nothing is too much trouble and the frequency, quality and variety
of the activities she's involved in are wonderful. She's settled in well and is happy there. Happy Mum equals happy family. Thank you, Hall Garth.

My mother moved into Hallgarth from hospital with a permanently dislocated hip and severe cognitive impairment. I can say in all honesty that she couldn't have received any better quality care over the last 15 months. I'm sure that Hallgarth saved her life as she was in such a poor state after 6 weeks
in hospital, and they have kept her safe. Whenever I visit my mother (which is usually unplanned), she is always well-dressed, clean and well-cared for. The staff even come in on their days off to chat with Mum. They are extremely welcoming and supportive of relatives and always willing to spend time with you if you have any queries. Having worked in healthcare for 35 years, I know a good care home when I see one. The staff have worked there many years and seem happy in their work. They are friendly, efficient and competent and work tirelessly to ensure that the residents have the best care possible. There are lots of bigger and flashier care homes in the area, but this one is a hidden gem.

My mother required full-time care for dementia. Hallgarth was local to my mother's home and had some familiarity with her. In the early days, there were plenty of activities to keep my mum entertained and engaged with other people. Singers, bands, vintage displays and exhibitions to trigger memories,
indoor sports and crafts. As she became less able, the staff helped her through her days with patience and understanding.
She was there for two and a half years. This time gave us peace of mind that she had 24-hour care.
The only thing I disagreed with, which is not the care home's fault is that my mum had to use her own savings to pay for care of what is an illness and should be funded by the NHS. She had worked all her life and paid all her taxes and NI. Shame on you government!

Mam finally had to give up independent living at the age of 93, and having looked at a few residential homes, and selected Hall Garth, Mam continued to live independently with the security of assistance on hand 24 hours a day. Our experience was extremely good, and that mam felt comfortable and included
even though she still had a decent amount of independence. The staff were very friendly and approachable, keeping the family updated on anything relating to Mother's care. The food was of a really good standard, the entertainment was varied and frequent. The family were allowed to visit whenever was convenient.
Sadly mam passed shortly after her 95th birthday, and again the staff responded extremely well when she needed to be admitted to hospital, again keeping the family well and showing great respect when mam finally died. Would recommend it to anyone who wants care for themselves or an elderly friend or relative.

Hallgarth is a lovely and caring place. My mum is there and I know that I do not have to worry about her. The staff are fantastic and treat my mum like their own family. In these testing times of Covid I know that even if I am unable to visit she will be looked after. When I visit her she always look
well, she’s eating well and has her hair done regularly. She always looks clean and smart and this was always important to her before her dementia. The manageress does a brilliant job along with all of the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.211)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.211) out of 10 for Hallgarth is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.944 for Hallgarth is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.944

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.267 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallgarth is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
