Magnolia House, in the leafy suburb of Cottingham, is a wonderful, residential home for the elderly offering exceptional respite and day care services.

A recent resident led refurbishment has given the home a top-to-toe makeover including stylish new décor throughout and en-suite 'wet-rooms' for every room.

With a home from home atmosphere and relaxing environment, additional new features include a new main lounge area with spectacular garden views. Residents enjoy tasty, nutritional food.

All carers are trained in personalisation methods, getting to know the needs of each individual resident.

A dedicated activities co-ordinator organises a variety of leisure pursuits, therapies, entertainments and outings to stimulate, inform and brighten the day for the residents and staff.

In the eleven months my mum was a resident at Magnolia House she received exceptional care and the staff and management went above and beyond. Also, the support we received as a family during my mum's end-of-life care, we will be forever grateful, thank you to everyone.

I have no hesitation in recommending Magnolia House. My mother became a resident in March 2022, originally for respite care that turned into residential care. High standards of cleanliness throughout and a pleasant environment in all areas. A real plus is the stability of the staff, enabling a thorough
and consistent understanding of Mum's care needs. Management is approachable and straightforward, sensitively guiding through some difficult decision-making. Mum left at the end of January to relocate to a care home nearer to her family. If there had been an option to remain in Cottingham, Mum would have happily continued to reside at Magnolia House.

The general atmosphere is calm and cheerful. My room is a good size, light and airy. It includes a small bathroom area which is very welcome.
Food is very good, plenty of it.

I found there were lots of changes to my lifestyle. Getting into a different routine at meal times. Overall getting my food consumption into a routine as I have lost lots of weight, and the staff were brilliant in my increase in my buildup.

At first, I found it all a bit unsettling and bewildering. My stay was only going to be two weeks, but this is now my third week. I have nothing but praise for the staff, who all seem dedicated to their job. There is nothing that is too much trouble. They will do anything for you, but at the same time,
you are encouraged to do things for yourself.

During my father-in-laws time in Magnolia House, he was very happy with the care given by the staff. His health improved since arriving at the home due to nursing care and good food. Unfortunately, he had a large stroke and passed away. Thank you all for your care with/for him.

I came to Magnolia House after a prolonged hospitalisation. I found a welcoming and caring atmosphere. My room is comfortable and warm and I am able to have personal items displayed etc. I have an ensuite facility. I have access to medical care when needed. Night care is particularly good - reassuring.
Magnolia is in the village where I lived for 18 years and friends are able to access easily.

Overall, I am satisfied with the care my mum receives at Magnolia House.
However, it has been frustrating and upsetting during the pandemic not being able to have face to face visits (we have regular video chats). I look forward to visits being allowed by the home, especially as my mum is above ground
floor and bed bound and therefore window visits would be very difficult.

The manager and her staff are always welcoming, you can contact them anytime and they will help you if they can.
They have been very supportive of what mine and my uncle's circumstances have been and knowing he is looked after 24/7 and he doesn't have to worry about anything is a great comfort. Magnolia
House have been exemplary in their conduct and dealing with the Covid19 virus. Always with the residents best interests at the centre of every decision made, trying to keep residents safe. Social media posts show the activities within Magnolia HOuse and it's nice to see the staff engaging with all the residents and having fun.

I have only had 1 visit since my mum's admission and did not enter the home due to COVID restrictions, hence I am unable to rate some of the areas asked. I can only say that my mum looked lovely, stress-free and happy. Something that I have not seen in her for the last few years, it gives me so much
peace of mind knowing she is settled. Amazing hard work by all staff!

I feel my mother is very well cared for. Covid has pushed everyone to their limits and Magnolia has been exemplary with its policies to care for its residents.

My mum has been a resident at Magnolia House for 18 months, she is always treated with care and respect. Although we have only been able to have window visits for the last year due to covid restrictions, the staff have always been very accommodating. Mum had a spell in hospital last year in May, obviously
no visiting in the hospital either. Magnolia House were kept involved in the situation all the time and made covid safe arrangements for her to be able to return safely to Magnolia. Mum is always happy and gets on well with all the staff and carers. I would highly recommend this care home and count myself lucky that they had capacity when Mum was no longer able to look after herself or with carers in her own home due to Alzheimer’s. Thank you to all the staff at Magnolia House, you’re doing a great job, especially under these very difficult times for everyone.

Even before this unprecedented year, I would have highly recommended Magnolia House. But during this year of extreme pressure on staff in care homes, the workers there have stepped up. All the staff from cleaners to manager, the receptionist to seniors all have played a vital part in keeping my mum
safe and happy. I can not imagine the pressure they have been and are continuing to be under but when I drop goodies off for my mum they always smile and have a quick chat telling me how she is getting on. I struggle not seeing my mum, pre-COVID it was three times a week, but the staff have organised it so I could chat to her on video calls and it made my Christmas to see her in person in the converted room behind a screen. It was a hard decision to find a care home for my mum. I looked at a range in the area but am even more convinced now I made the right choice for her.

As a family we were reluctant to put our Mum into a care home. Sadly her illness and day to day needs became unmanageable and we decided on Magnolia House. We have been more than happy with the care and attention she has received and despite the restrictions of Covid 19, we have had window visits and
video calls to keep in touch. Mum seems happy and settled, is always immaculately dressed and well-nourished. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are kind and sensitive to all her needs.

Lindsay

Lindsay Altoft

Job Title: Manager

Lindsay is one of life’s all-rounders! She began life with Park Lane Healthcare working in the accounts department, handling all the residents’ families’ queries, fee payments, bills we had to pay and a myriad of other things too. She even used to organise all our special award days that our top performing staff receive for their efforts, many of which go way beyond the call of duty. If all of this was not enough, in her own time she studied at Lincoln University and gained a degree in social work, such was her calling for looking after the elderly and vulnerable in society. All of this led to her joining our regional team, ensuring our homes were compliant in all aspects of care delivery and it seemed the most natural thing in the world to place her as manager at Magnolia House when the position became vacant. Although a large home and with its large challenges, Lindsay works tremendously hard at all times to ensure that every resident feels that little bit special.
