Ladysmith Care Home is a purpose built 90 bed care facility. It is owned and operated by Knights Care Ltd, a family run business that has been in the care industry for many years.

Ladysmith Care Home provides residential care and dementia care, as well as respite care which can provide much needed relief for those caring for a family member at home.

Residents enjoy 24-hour care from the friendly and experienced staff who strive to meet the needs and wishes of every individual in a person-centred manner. Everyone benefits from state of the art facilities.

Ladysmith Care Home has been carefully designed. The facilities are high quality and based on the latest research into care for elderly people to offer a warm and inviting place to live at an affordable price. The reception area is a welcoming environment with a receptionist and two members of staff situated in an office so there is always someone to meet, greet and assist guests, relatives and residents as they move around the home.

They have a main lounge on the ground floor which is a large open social area allowing opportunity for social gatherings, in-house activities, live music and entertainment. The seating is arranged in a manner which encourages interaction, whilst maintaining opportunity for privacy. They have a variety of smaller lounges on each floor giving the building a homely feel, where small functions, quiet time and small group activities can be undertaken.

The wider corridors allow wheelchair and walking frame users to get around easily. The four dining areas focus on nutrition, another prospect for socialisation and a time to share good food. Residents and visitors can access drinks and light snacks from the kitchenettes that are situated in each dining area. All ground floor lounges and dining areas open up to the attractive enclosed gardens which include walkways, garden furniture and a summer house for sunny days.

My father has been a resident st Ladysmith for almost three years now. During this time, we have been happy with the home environment, the care he has received and how the staff interact with him. A few months back he was admitted to hospital; whilst in there, he tested positive for Covid-19 as well
as developing some nasty pressure sores. He has to go to an isolation unit before he could go back to his care home; during this time, he continued to deteriorate rapidly to the point where things were fast-tracked for end of life care. When he returned back to Ladysmith, my father, who also suffers from dementia and is bedbound, immediately appeared more relaxed and content. Fast forward six months, my father is still with us, the pressure sores are now healed, and I know he is comfortable, relaxed and very happy in his surroundings. This is a testament to the dedication and exceptional care he is receiving at Ladysmith. The home is also clean, very welcoming, well run, and all the staff teams are friendly and caring. I would have no hesitation recommending Ladysmith Care Home for a loved one.

I come to visit a friend, I can't fault the receptionist or staff. They are all very friendly and greet you when you come in. Very COVID secure too. COVID test, apron and gloves to be worn to protect everyone. Want to praise the receptionist on my visits as she is lovely and very helpful. Lovely clean
care home. Definitely would recommend.

My husband was admitted to Ladysmith Care Home for respite as an emergency. I cannot thank the manager and all staff including carers and housekeeping enough for the dedicated care given to him and myself. I had been very disappointed by his treatment at a local hospital but the staff there restored
my faith in the caring sector. Nothing was too much trouble and I will always be grateful for their support at a very difficult period in our lives. Thank you.

Nan went into Ladysmith at the start of lockdown in March 2020 initially for respite. Nan settled in well and the staff go above and beyond to make her feel special and relaxed. Nan has continued to reside at Ladysmith and, as a family, we feel they can offer her the stimulation and independence that
was slipping away from her at home she is a now a full-time resident. It is lovely to hear her talk about going to have her hair and nails done, enjoying a drink in the Ladysmith Arms and partaking in various chair-based activities. It has been difficult for us as a family not being able to visit the home as we initially thought we would due to lockdown but Ladysmith staff have gone above and beyond to keep our daily contact going. The staff have been fantastic and it's reassuring to know that Nan is well supported and cared for but most importantly for us in a consistent, professional and genuine manner. I wish I could write more to show how pleased we are. This is home from home.

To be quite honest, my dad spent a few days of a year at this care home, and he always felt like he was home. I and my family can't thank all the staff for the care they gave my dad; it was excellent. I would really like to thank them all, two of them in particular, and their team of staff are just
like extended family. I would recommend Ladysmith Care Home to anyone.

My mother-in-law came to stay in August for 3 weeks respite. It was wonderful to listen to her telling me about the lovely staff and delicious food when I came to pick her up, she had written down the meals she had particularly enjoyed especially the puddings! She told me detailed stories about how
caring and kind the staff were to her and how safe and well looked after she felt. When I rang up, the cheerful staff always gave me great feedback on how she was and nothing was too much trouble. The home manager is also really friendly and kept me informed of her progress throughout her stay. The staff had even managed to encourage her to join in the activities which is a first! The home manager clearly runs a professional well-led team of happy staff who make the residents feel special and it's clear they really do care about them. We will definitely be returning to Ladysmith, a big thank you to all the staff for looking after her so well.

My dad is at the home, due to very difficult circumstances, my mum, his carer of 42 years, received a terminal diagnosis and died after 4 months at the end of 2020.
The staff have treated Dad and ourselves with the utmost compassion, dignity and empathy during these pandemic times. The home is clean,
friendly and caring. The staff are professional and approachable. My dad is well looked after and has settled in well. The most welcome recent addition is the COVID secure visiting room, which has meant I can see my dad weekly in a safe environment making it feel I am in the same room, although behind glass. Thank you Ladysmith Care Home.

Had 11.00 a.m appointment to see my mum today. Arrived at ten to eleven.


Sent to visitors room at 11.10.


Mum arrived at 11.25.


Another couple in the room to see their father.


Could not hear my dementia/Parkinson mum at all.
All I could hear was the other visitor's conversation.

My family and I have extremely happy with the high quality of care for our beloved granny. The staff are always are smiling, singing and engaging with residents. Because of this dreadful virus, my family and I are unable to visit- but we are comforted by the fact that our wonderful granny is surrounded
by a superb team of people who care deeply.

My father was a resident of Ladysmith Care Home for nearly two years. In all that time he was provided with the care and support we as a family could no longer give. He was treated with respect and dignity by caring and professional staff with a good dose of humour too. I have experience of other local
care homes that don't even come close to providing the care my father received. We as a family were always welcomed on our visits particularly my mother.

My mother was admitted to this home for recuperation after a hospital stay. On her return to her own home, she asked to be re-admitted as a full resident to the home. We took her to see other homes but she wanted to go back to Ladysmith. As soon as you walk through the door at Ladysmith, you sense that
this is truly a loving, caring place. My mother was very happy in the home for the last two and a half years of her life. I cannot recommend the home too highly, especially the very friendly and smiling staff.

I would and have recommended this home to anyone wanting dementia care. The staff are very welcoming to visitors and as I visit at different times, I can honestly say I have never seen or heard staff treat the residents with anything but kindness and respect. If a problem has arisen, I have been notified
and sorted immediately. I fell completely at ease knowing my mum is safe and well cared for in every way. Not an easy task as I know how volatile and frustrating dealing with dementia is.

Carol Woodliffe

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

Carol Woodliffe has 26 years of experience in the care industry, and 13 years at the management level. This experience has armed her qualifications including NVQ Levels 2,3 & 4 in Health & Social Care; QCF Level 2 (Management structure) in Dementia care, Mental Capacity Assessment, End of Life Care, Person Centred Care Planning and Medication management. All this training has underpinned skills and extensive knowledge in the care industry, specifically older people.


Carol has utilised the rationale for good person-centred practice by honing excellent people skills, a professional approach and versatility. She is a self-motivated individual with a commitment to high standards of quality care provision. She focuses on sharing her ethos of ‘resident first and foremost’ with staff in her employ ensuring a driven, compassionate and empathetic team continues to evolve positively.

Olivia McFerran

Liam is very passionate about his role and promoting our values, ensuring our residents receive the care they deserve.

Debbie Macleod started working at Ladysmith as a cook when the care home was first built in 2011. Debbie had worked in the care industry for a few years before this but decided she wanted a change in direction. After a year of working as the care home’s cook Debbie decided to go back into the role of a carer and after two years became a senior, as Debbie’s confidence and skills grew, she was able to move on to become lead senior before taking on the role as care manager.

Katie Barnard began working at Ladysmith Care home in April 2019.
She completed an NVQ Level 2 in Business & Admin back in 2005 when she finished school. Since then, Katie has worked either reception jobs or admin jobs, gaining experience along the way.

Deana Wharton

Job Title: Home Adminstrator

Joined: 2020

Deana Wharton previously worked in the hairdressing industry for 20 years and for the last 7 years as the assistant manager of a hair salon in which she carried out all administration duties. Deana started working at Ladysmith care home in July 2020 as an administrator and is now settling into the role very well and enjoying working in a care home setting, which she finds very rewarding.

Mandy Rigall

Mandy began working at Ladysmith Care Home in September 2016 originally as a carer but later on, became an activities planner.


She thoroughly enjoys helping and spending time with all the residents.


Mandy plans activities and fun days out for all the residents. She chats with them and helps build their confidence and self-worth up with her positive energy.

Michelle Chidwick

Michelle started work at Ladysmith Care Home in 2012 as a care assistant. In 2016 Knights Care created the new post of Housekeeper, which Michelle applied for as she wanted a more senior role. After successfully achieving the role, Michelle now supervises a team of ten domestic staff ensuring the home is clean, tidy and odour free and a professional laundry service is provided.


Vivienne

Vivienne Clarke

Vivienne joined Ladysmith Care Home working as a cook in October 2018. She has over 25 years’ experience working in the care industry working her way up from carer to level 4 and registered manager. However, on reaching her 60’s she wanted to return to a more hands on role and having catering experience (Home baking cottage industry) she enjoys meeting the needs of the residents and working as part of an excellent team. She also has teaching and training qualifications allowing her to deliver in house moving and handling sessions and would like to develop this role if there is scope within the home.
