Ladysmith Care Home is a purpose built 90 bed care facility. It is owned and operated by Knights Care Ltd, a family run business that has been in the care industry for many years.

Ladysmith Care Home provides residential care and dementia care, as well as respite care which can provide much needed relief for those caring for a family member at home.

Residents enjoy 24-hour care from the friendly and experienced staff who strive to meet the needs and wishes of every individual in a person-centred manner. Everyone benefits from state of the art facilities.

Ladysmith Care Home has been carefully designed. The facilities are high quality and based on the latest research into care for elderly people to offer a warm and inviting place to live at an affordable price. The reception area is a welcoming environment with a receptionist and two members of staff situated in an office so there is always someone to meet, greet and assist guests, relatives and residents as they move around the home.

They have a main lounge on the ground floor which is a large open social area allowing opportunity for social gatherings, in-house activities, live music and entertainment. The seating is arranged in a manner which encourages interaction, whilst maintaining opportunity for privacy. They have a variety of smaller lounges on each floor giving the building a homely feel, where small functions, quiet time and small group activities can be undertaken.

The wider corridors allow wheelchair and walking frame users to get around easily. The four dining areas focus on nutrition, another prospect for socialisation and a time to share good food. Residents and visitors can access drinks and light snacks from the kitchenettes that are situated in each dining area. All ground floor lounges and dining areas open up to the attractive enclosed gardens which include walkways, garden furniture and a summer house for sunny days.

Breakfast is excellent.
The lunch is very good and could always get extra portions.
Tea not very good poor choice.
The sandwiches were often dry lacking filling, not appetising, cups of tea not always drinkable.
Suggestion - Have a hot water urn and tea bags/coffee and let the residents decide
how they want it.

I have been to seven different homes for respite and this is the best one by far. I could not fault it at all. Everyone was brilliant, really kind and caring. I couldn't have found a better place to give my daughter, son in law and granddaughter a break as I have lived with them for a few years now
since my husband died 14 years ago.
My daughter saw it on line. I would never ever go anywhere else for respite or permanently. I'd recommend it to anyone.

My mother has been a resident at Ladysmith Care Home for approximately three years and during that time has been treated with great care, respect and kindness. The staff are really great and the turnover of staff seems very low. The same careers have been involved with my mum's care all the time she
has been a resident, so they know her really well and she is comfortable with them. Mum has been hospitalised a couple of times since moving to Ladysmith and staff have treated her like a family member when she has returned ensuring her every comfort, offering re-assurance and support to help her back to better health. I would happily recommend Ladysmith Care Home as a safe and caring home for those no longer able to cope on their own..

I'd like to say, I recently needed emergency respite for my mama as she lives with me and had been unwell for weeks. I'd done numerous spot checks on local residential homes and wasn't happy however as soon as I entered Ladysmith Care I felt totally at ease and so did my mama as I'd taken her with me
because she had to be happy with it. The staff were so attentive and it felt right they were more than happy to carry out an assessment and did so, not only professionally but friendly. My mum was more than happy to stay under the circumstances. My daughter brought mums belongings and mama was booked in for 2 weeks. I was so relieved and grateful and most definitely will be using their care home in the future. I'm glad I didn't read ridiculous reviews, seems that they are all paperwork problems and not actual care, far too much time spent focusing on paperwork rather than what's needed ... CARE ... they were wonderful and have my vote, keep up the good work ladies. Thank you, much appreciated.

Since mum was admitted in May 2015, I have visited her frequently and have always felt reassured that she is well cared for.
The home is clean and bright and welcoming. The staff treat the residents with patience and kindness. I am always impressed by how gentle they are with everyone.
There seem
to be many activities such as bingo, crafts, quizzes, a visiting singer etc.
Visitors are always made to feel welcome.
Although mum is confused at times, she does say how happy she is there and what a lovely place it is.

My sister has been a resident of Ladysmith Care Home since April 2012. She went there following a spell in hospital following a stroke after which she was not able to care for herself. Whilst in hospital it was also found that she has the onset of dementia. Ladysmith Care Home have provided excellent
care and support to her since 2012 and following a recent fall which resulted in a broken hip and wrist they have nursed her back to being able to walk with the aid of her walking frame and continue to use her arm. My sister is 92 years of age.

The place mentioned above is ideal for anyone. My experience is a good guide to follow, the staff are very reliable and helpful in every way. As regards food etc no complaints as everything is well organised and respected, everything is accepted and nothing is too much trouble which makes life well

I am treated with respect and humour after being swept out of my own home by flooding water! The red cross and local fire brigade soon had a big lighting system outside my house. I was taken into Ladysmith Care Home where I am being looked after with dignity. Now there's no place like home but there
is the next best thing! Thank you all "God Bless you!"

My mother receives excellent care from all the staff. She is in good health and enjoys life here. The meals are well prepared and offer a good varied diet. The surroundings are well maintained and cleanliness seems high on the list of priorities. Overall I don't think you will find a better care home
in this area which is well managed and has dedicated staff who always work in a professional manner.

Our close relative has been living at Ladysmith for 2 and half years. The family visit five/six times per week. The care has been consistently excellent.
The carers are empathetic and proficient; the senior staff and management are approachable and responsive. Liaison with outside agencies especially
medical services is also very good. There are good social activities.

Since both my parents went to Ladysmith, they were treated with nothing but kindness. Sadly after my dad passed away, Ladysmith became my mum's home. The staff couldn't do any more to support my mum through this sad time. The care my mum receives is excellent and the way in which the home treats our
family when we visit it makes us feel we are part of a larger family and always welcome. Thank you Ladysmith, you have put our minds at rest with the care, love and support you give to mum.

My mum was a resident at Ladysmith care home for nearly 3 years, sadly she passed away in December 2015. I just wanted to say that the care she received in the 3 years was excellent. The staff, senior carers and management have looked after her as if she was a family member from the day she arrived.
The last week of her life was traumatic for the family but the palliative care given was dignified and loving, I would not have wanted her to be anywhere else, certainly not in the hospital, the comfort they gave to her and myself was second to none and I would without hesitation recommend this home to anyone seeking a safe, loving environment for those people most precious to us to live.

Carol

Carol Woodliffe

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

Carol Woodliffe has 26 years of experience in the care industry, and 13 years at the management level. This experience has armed her qualifications including NVQ Levels 2,3 & 4 in Health & Social Care; QCF Level 2 (Management structure) in Dementia care, Mental Capacity Assessment, End of Life Care, Person Centred Care Planning and Medication management. All this training has underpinned skills and extensive knowledge in the care industry, specifically older people.


Carol has utilised the rationale for good person-centred practice by honing excellent people skills, a professional approach and versatility. She is a self-motivated individual with a commitment to high standards of quality care provision. She focuses on sharing her ethos of ‘resident first and foremost’ with staff in her employ ensuring a driven, compassionate and empathetic team continues to evolve positively.

Olivia McFerran

Liam has been in the care sector since the age of 18, he came to Ladysmith Care Home in 2011.


Whilst at Ladysmith he has developed his career as a care assistant, Senior Carer and Senior Lead.


Liam has also completed multiple qualifications including an NVQ level 3 Diploma in management and leadership which has enabled him to be promoted to the position of Care Manager.


Liam is very passionate about his role and promoting our values, ensuring our residents receive the care they deserve.

Debbie Macleod

Debbie Macleod started working at Ladysmith as a cook when the care home was first built in 2011. Debbie had worked in the care industry for a few years before this but decided she wanted a change in direction. After a year of working as the care home’s cook Debbie decided to go back into the role of a carer and after two years became a senior, as Debbie’s confidence and skills grew, she was able to move on to become lead senior before taking on the role as care manager.

Katie Barnard began working at Ladysmith Care home in April 2019.
She completed an NVQ Level 2 in Business & Admin back in 2005 when she finished school. Since then, Katie has worked either reception jobs or admin jobs, gaining experience along the way.

Deana Wharton

Job Title: Home Adminstrator

Joined: 2020

Deana Wharton previously worked in the hairdressing industry for 20 years and for the last 7 years as the assistant manager of a hair salon in which she carried out all administration duties. Deana started working at Ladysmith care home in July 2020 as an administrator and is now settling into the role very well and enjoying working in a care home setting, which she finds very rewarding.

Mandy Rigall

Job Title: Activities Co-Ordinator

Mandy began working at Ladysmith Care Home in September 2016 originally as a carer but later on, became an activities planner.


She thoroughly enjoys helping and spending time with all the residents.


Mandy plans activities and fun days out for all the residents. She chats with them and helps build their confidence and self-worth up with her positive energy.


Michelle

Michelle Chidwick

Job Title: Housekeeper

Joined: 2012

Michelle started work at Ladysmith Care Home in 2012 as a care assistant. In 2016 Knights Care created the new post of Housekeeper, which Michelle applied for as she wanted a more senior role. After successfully achieving the role, Michelle now supervises a team of ten domestic staff ensuring the home is clean, tidy and odour free and a professional laundry service is provided.


Vivienne

Vivienne Clarke

Job Title: Cook

Joined: 2018

Vivienne joined Ladysmith Care Home working as a cook in October 2018. She has over 25 years’ experience working in the care industry working her way up from carer to level 4 and registered manager. However, on reaching her 60’s she wanted to return to a more hands on role and having catering experience (Home baking cottage industry) she enjoys meeting the needs of the residents and working as part of an excellent team. She also has teaching and training qualifications allowing her to deliver in house moving and handling sessions and would like to develop this role if there is scope within the home.
