  • Newgrove House Care Home, Grimsby
Standing in acres of landscaped gardens, Newgrove House has been extended extensively to provide a custom built accommodation for the elderly.

Care has been taken throughout to ensure that the 'old' and 'new' blend together harmoniously. Although the original house has been extended and modernised it still retains the atmosphere of a family home. This emphasis on responding to the needs of the residents and creating an environment that is pleasant, homely and luxurious too is apparent throughout Newgrove House.

The bedrooms, most with en-suite facilities are tastefully decorated, furnished to the highest standards and have a television, direct dial telephone, brass fittings and call bell system. All five bathrooms have a lifting hoist and special wall panels that allow for better hygiene than normal bathroom tiles. Solid, wooden handrails have been put in throughout the building for safety. The spacious lounges look onto the landscaped gardens, which are planted with a variety of flowers and shrubs. The bigger of the two lounges has a large television and leads onto a large patio. There are two conservatories, one on each side of the main lounge and a quiet room next to it. There is a further quiet room on the first floor. All of these are furnished to the highest standards to enable the residents to really enjoy the splendour of the internal environment and the panoramic views of the large landscaped gardens from the inside of the home.

Dad spent final week of his life here. The staff were caring, professional and thoughtful to dad and also to all the visiting family.

My mother is currently staying at Newgrove. All the staff we have met have been caring, helpful and attentive. Individual members of staff asking questions about Mum so they can get to know her on a more personal level, support her and make her feel better, things like this mean a lot. The manager is
always on hand if needed to see how you are doing and answer any questions and concerns. Mum’s room is clean and tidy. The food, cooked and prepared in-house is excellent. We know we can call or visit at any time to see Mum. There are daily activities for residents to participate in as well as a visiting hairdresser, and chiropodist. Trusting someone else to look after one of your parents is a huge thing, something that I never ever thought I would have to do or want to do. On behalf of myself and my family, it is comforting to know that Mum is being cared for in a safe place which can cater for her current care needs. Thank you to all the staff at Newgrove, you are a brilliant team.

Excellent provision for elderly care. Vibrant atmosphere and staff are all lovely. Always seems to be something happening in the afternoons with quizzes and singing. Bedrooms are homely and we were encouraged to personalise Dad's room. Also nice to see a good mix of male and female care providers. Dad
feels more comfortable with getting help from males, so this is good. Well done team. Keep up the good work!

Having my mother go into a care home was initially my worst nightmare, I had no idea that it would change my mother's life for the better because of the level of care performed by everyone who works at Newgrove House. The carers are brilliant with my mother, the manager is so attentive of the situation
and deals with all situations with dignity and the care needed for all different needs. Thank you to all the staff and management involved, keep up the work that you are doing.

Mother went to Newgrove after a fall at home. She stayed sixteen nights. Mother was sad to leave, she enjoyed the company and the staff were so kind and gentle. Nothing was too much. Mother gained weight and she became my parent again after three years of depression. Thank you so much for making a difficult
time so much easier.

Originally, my mum was in Newgrove House for a short stay. But, after we had witnessed the care and cleanliness of the home, along with the pleasant staff and good meals, we decided Newgrove House was for her. She settled quickly and enjoys a chat with the staff and the new friends she has made. Any
concerns or problems and management are in touch straight away. I can visit Mum and then go home knowing she is safe and getting the best possible care.

I am extremely grateful to all staff at Newgrove House for all the care and attention they gave my nan whilst she stayed for respite. They put everything into taking care of her from everyday care to just sitting and chatting with her when she felt down, putting a smile on her face and keeping her laughing.
I'm very grateful to each and every person.

Had a meeting with the manager yesterday for review. Very happy with the advice he gave me. All staff friendly. Always asking if want drinks. Dad is clean looking and tidy and feels himself again. Dad rings the buzzer and the ladies always come to help and are polite and nice. We all know Dad is safe
now and looked after.

I am sorry to say that my experience at the old people's residential home was extremely disappointing. The service provided by the staff was terrible, and it appeared that the residents were left unattended most of the time.
The home was specifically designed to cater to the needs of the elderly, particularly
those with dementia. However, the staff seemed uncaring and disinterested in providing proper care for the residents. Many residents were left sitting on their own for hours without any interaction or attention from the staff.
The living conditions were appalling. It was evident that the residents had not been washed or had their clothes changed in days. The unpleasant odour in the building was unbearable. The lack of cleanliness and hygiene in the home was concerning, and it was clear that the staff was not meeting basic standards of care.
The safety of the residents was also a concern. I witnessed several instances of residents wandering around the home unsupervised.

Staff are good.
Only complaint some are always on their phones.
They also tend to go to the smoking area together, which leaves the other staff short-handed.

Unfortunately, this home was very disappointing. I don't think the staff or management understood the meaning of person-centered care. Thankfully my relative had full mental capacity and so was able to voice her concerns ranging from the medication being withheld, hot drinks being withheld and a member
of staff shouting in her face. No customer service from management and still waiting after one week for an explanation into why my relative was shouted at. Thankfully my relative was able to leave.

I honestly can say that I felt so assured when my grandad was at Newgrove House. The manager was always eager to help and give us information and helped reassure us. His staff were so helpful and caring. My grandad was always clean and shaved when we would see him on camera chat. If all homes are like
the Newgrove then I would happily live in a home when I’m older.

My mother has resided at Newgrove House since 2014 after a severe brain haemorrhage left her in need of around-the-clock care. This was not a 'typical' scenario for care but the staff have been kind, attentive and supportive (towards my mother and me) from the beginning. The current manager has implemented
an overhaul of the care plans since being in-situ and she is always willing to extend the best care possible to all of the service users. It is an accessible location with a pleasant outlook overlooking fields and stables. Newgrove is my mother's home and we have always been made to feel like family, not simply paying for a service. I am grateful on a daily basis to all the staff for everything they do. I recommend Newgrove House for consideration of anyone who may need care and support for themselves or a family member.

Mum has been a resident in Newgrove House Care Home for the past 2 years. The home has a very relaxed "family" feel and an excellent team of staff who provide a fantastic level of care and kindness to all residents - they all go the extra mile to ensure residents wellbeing. I have no hesitation in recommending
Newgrove House Care Home and am very thankful that we were lucky enough to find this "home from home" for mum. Thank you all!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.643)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.643) out of 10 for Newgrove House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.743 for Newgrove House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.743

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newgrove House Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
