I would like to leave this review on behalf of myself and all my family.
My fathers stay at Abbey Lea was a liitle short but the care he received in that time was excellent.
His care was so warming and genuine this was also extended to all family members.
The home is extremely clean and well kept,
the food is home cooked and served with love.
The personal care my father received was exceptional...thank you.
The Management team are also exceptional they deal with you as a famiy that they do actually care about, they go above a beyond to be there for you throughout the journey of your loved one who is in their care.
We heartfelt can not thank you ALL enough at Abbey Lea.

First-class care is always given to my mum. All the staff are kind, caring and show compassion towards the residents. Mum is very content at Abbey Lea, all her needs at met, they go over and above to support mum. Her room is always clean, comfortable and warm. There are always activities which are adapted
for Mum as she is constantly in bed. The food menu always has a good selection of choice.
The home is very welcoming to relatives/visitors and the staff keep the relatives updated if they have any concerns. Nothing is ever a problem at any time day or night. I would definitely recommend Abbey Lea to anyone.
Definitely the best care home in the area. 5-star plus.

Unfortunately Mum passed away in December. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the staff at Abbey Lea for the care they gave to Mum. They all went above and beyond with the love, compassion, and dignity they gave Mum in her last days. Also, the support they gave me nothing
was too much trouble for them. Thank you so much to you all.

My mother is a resident at Abbey Lea and I live far away so am unable to visit her frequently. I didn't really want her to be in a care home so was very apprehensive the first time I visited her. To my absolute delight, she was thriving there. She was happy, safe and joining in all the great activities
they have daily. This was a complete 180 from when she was living alone as she was so depressed, confused and isolated. The staff there are all so dedicated to their jobs and genuinely care about each and every resident so it really is more like a big family. All of the staff including management interact positively with the residents every day and are always finding ways to make Abbey Lea as warm, happy and homely as it can be. I would not want my loved one to be anywhere else and I know she wouldn't either. It really is a lovely place. Well done to all.

My very good friend's dementia took hold quite rapidly and despite being confused with his new living situation, he warmed to the staff at Abbey Lea immediately as they helped him to settle into his new home. We both found the whole care team, including management, to be very helpful, understanding
and kind. It can be a rare thing to find kindness and care wrapped up in professionalism and humility. Abbey Lea very quickly began to know my friend well; his likes and dislikes, his sense of humour, his love of nature and being outdoors, his favourite foods (cooking all homemade) and which tipple he likes at a party! They have many activities on offer throughout the year and always try to think about what all the residents might enjoy. I have seen the staff first-hand encouraging residents to socialise with one another and also take the time to sit and chat with them. It makes me happy to know that my friend is well cared for and as happy as he can be at Abbey Lea. Thank you all.

My father was a resident at Abbey Lea from October 2018 until he passed in July 2023. It was difficult for both my dad and us, as family members, to adjust to him going into care. However, Abbey Lea has created a team that provides a compassionate, supportive, respectful and very reassuring caring role.
Information on Dad was requested to enable the carers to have conversations relative to my dad's background in an attempt to keep some memories active, and efforts were made to play music which he would recognise and engage in. Confidence was instilled when I visited, seeing how my dad responded to the team members and how he could forget so much but never to smile. I am so very appreciative that this is where my dad spent his final five years.

Abbey Lea care home is a homely, welcoming place for all residents. The manager and care staff pulled out all the stops throughout December to deliver a full, fun and entertaining programme of events for residents and families - school and local choirs, entertainers, singalongs, parties to name a few.
It is a small and caring setting, top marks from me!

I was looking for a care home for my dad and Abbey Lea was recommended by a number of people. I visited with my wife and we were both impressed by the homely feel and the pleasant nature of the staff. Dad has now been a resident for just over a month and he has settled well, largely I feel due to the
caring and friendly nature of the care team. I feel he is listened to and treated more like a family member by the staff. There is a range of activities throughout the week and there always seems to be a good atmosphere whenever I visit. I feel the staff go above and beyond to look after dad. After a difficult few years I now feel he is getting the care and attention he needs and deserves. Thank you.

I was looking for a care home to look after my mother and someone recommended Abbey Lea care home at Barlby, Selby. To know my mother is looked after by caring, dedicated staff was priority over all other considerations. After deciding to place her there I am not disappointed. My mother appears very
happy and contented. The staff all treat her as if she were their own mother.

My Mum has been a resident of Abbey Lea Care Home since November 2021. My sister and I have found it very difficult to make the decision to place our Mum in a Care Home, but it has been the right decision. The staff are responsive to our Mum's needs, especially as she has taken some time to settle.
We like the small family atmosphere of Abbey Lea and that we can talk to the staff easily. The recent Jubilee celebration was well organised and allowed us as a family to come and share with Mum the planned bbq. Abbey Lea is well led by the Manager who inspires confidence so that we are confident that our Mum is being well cared for.

My mother became a resident at Abbey Lea in August 2020. She stayed 21 months in all, she really enjoyed her stay there. The staff and management are all pleasant and take great care in caring for the residents, nothing seems to be too much trouble. Her room was always clean, and she always looked well
cared for. Mother enjoyed sitting in the garden on fine warm days - it's lovely. I would have no hesitation in recommending Abbey Lea to anybody wanting a safe, secure, and caring place for their relatives.

My Mum came to Abbey Lea in July 2021. As a family, we could not wish for a more homely place for her to live now that she requires extra care. The staff cannot do enough for her. Everyone is so polite and helpful and caring. She has a lovely room and has settled very well. She is enjoying the company
of other residents and particularly likes the lovely garden to sit in. She can have her hair done every week and has even had her nails painted! It is nice that she still has some independence and choice in her daily life whilst always having the security of knowing assistance is there at all times.

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review, it will give our team a real boost after such a difficult 18 months. We really try to make Abbey Lea as homely as possible which has been challenging throughout the pandemic! Your Mother is a pleasure to look after and our team take great comfort in how much you and your family care for her. It is lovely to see how you have personalised her bedroom and how often you visit and take your Mother out. We look forward to the future where we hope to once again hold afternoon tea socials and can freely invite residents friends and families to attend. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!

I would like to recommend Abbey Lea Care Home to anyone looking for a good home for their relatives or loved ones. The manager and her staff offer a fantastic level of care to all the residents. The home itself has a friendly welcoming environment, almost a home from home. The bedrooms and public areas
are bright and kept very clean. The meals are tasty. There are plenty of activities arranged from carol services at Christmas to summer garden fetes, and sing-alongs.
My mum was at this home for just over 4 years and I was always met with a warm welcome when I visited, and regularly kept up to date by email/phone call when I couldn't. I live in Spain, so it was important for me to know my mum was in good hands.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.717)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.717) out of 10 for Abbey Lea is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.917 for Abbey Lea is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey Lea is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
