Borrage House supports up to 40 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle and provides dementia care and continues to welcome new residents. The home is proud to hold Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accreditation to be able to provide tailored care for veterans.

Set in a quiet town location, in its own beautiful grounds, Borrage House care home is close to local services and amenities, such as the North Yorkshire Moors and the beauty spots of Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care, and long-term care for those who can no longer look after themselves.

The care team get to know customers and work with them to organise wellness activity, while matching individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community.

Each customer’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements. Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible by their team of highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

Anchor, which operates Borrage House, are one of England’s largest providers of housing and care for those over 55 years of age and has 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit provider of services to older people.

Borrage House is a happy caring home with friendly staff who try very hard to provide good care for the residents, in our experience. Borrage has been home for my mother for about 5 years and she continues to thrive beyond her century, probably in no small part to the excellent care she has received,
including through the difficult period of the pandemic.

The highest accolade I can give to Borrage House is that when mum has left the property to visit us at home she is more than happy to go back as she says she feels very safe there. My mum has to have regular medication often through the day and tells me this is administered on the dot, always. The staff
are upbeat, friendly and know just how to get the best out of my mum. The building and gardens are well maintained and clean. My mum loves gardening and Borrage House provided plants, planters and equipment for her to spruce up the patio area. She loves it and it looks fabulous. I have always had support and questions answered. I truly feel mum's welfare is at the heart of what they do and you couldn't ask for more for your mum.

Mum is treated as if she is one of their own relatives. I feel this is genuine. Staff are kind and sensitive to Mum’s needs. The chefs make fabulous food. They will make dishes they know are favourites (as far as they can!).
Over the past year, staff have tried really hard to entertain the residents
and interact with them in a meaningful way. I feel staff have done whatever they could to keep residents cheerful and comfortable. It is, after all, their home. Staff have bought gifts for Mum, and even a fur coat, which has caused a lot of fun! It was on Mum’s wish list for Christmas. They checked it was ok.
Strict measures were in place during COVID and the staff have been brilliant. Borrage has remained a COVID free zone. I cannot thank them enough.
Everyone has been sympathetic to my plight as a daughter too. They really appreciate how difficult those ‘window’ visits were. They have become skilled at testing too.
I feel any concerns are treated seriously and resolved.

Very happy with general care provided. I am happy that staff always act in the best interests of the residents and treat them in an honest, appropriate and caring manner. My mother is content there and likes all the staff, which says a lot. She is happy with the food and facilities, though does not
always take part in activities, due to her age. They contact me when they feel they need to, but not unnecessarily. Zoom and Skype calls can be arranged if requested.
I feel that the home would benefit from employing at least one member of staff with a nursing qualification. Particularly given that the staff are not always happy to perform some minor medical tasks such as cutting toenails. Doctors are however contacted promptly when required.
The home is clean and does not smell. It has a good reputation within the wider community and I would not hesitate to recommend it. If we needed to move my mother, I would consider another Anchor Trust home.

My mother is very happy in the care home and is supported and looked after by all the staff who are very kind and caring and they all attend to her needs. The catering is of a very high standard and the cleanliness and hygiene are of a very high standard and I am confident that all steps have been taken
to make the home Covid 19 safe. The staff are very hardworking and conscientious and provide lots of activities and entertainment for all the residents.

My mum became a temporary resident after a hospital stay in August 2019 and later a permanent resident in September after she came to terms with no longer being able to cope. The managers and staff have provided excellent care for her and managed a very difficult elderly lady with kindness and patience.
The atmosphere in the home was lovely when I visited, the public rooms are airy and friendly and staff always available. Since lockdown we have received regular newsletters with pictures and whilst mum much prefers her own company it is reassuring to know that whilst she does not socialize the opportunities are there and the staff and residents look happy in their community. On personal level-wise words, kindness and support given to me by staff and management have helped me greatly to cope with mum.

Borrage House has been providing excellent care for my aunt since February 2017 and my mother since July 2020. The care staff are kind and caring and treat the residents like family, the atmosphere is warm and friendly. They know each resident well and are attentive of their needs and treat them with
respect and understanding. Families receive a newsletter each month with lovely pictures of the residents joining the various activities provided to keep them stimulated and entertained. We can also ring the home at any time to arrange a FaceTime with Mum and Aunt which is a lifesaver in these times and a lovely way to chat whilst they sit in their room with a cup of tea, and so reassuring to see Mums face as we talk and Mum can see us. It’s been such a relief to us as Mum was not coping at home to know that she is safe and secure, well feed and looked after to a high standard.
The manager and admin staff are friendly, approachable and organised the transfer into the home efficiently.

Borrage House is clearly managed by a friendly and supportive team of amazing people. In my opinion and from what I can seen, my mother is happy, safe and well-nourished. We have observed a weight gain since her arrival in February/March 2020 - she looks healthy and younger than her 77 years. Her specific
diet is adhered to and it has been communicated that she receives support at mealtimes.
The staff are so willing to go the extra mile to be the communication link between my mum and the family. They show her video messages we send; print out pictures we occasionally email; and happily clean and quarantine gifts we deliver.
We couldn’t have wished for anything else to give Mum the best of her Alzheimer’s life and to give us the chance to live our lives once again.
Thank you to each and every one of you - from cleaners, chefs and care workers to wonderful managers.
You are all worth your weight in gold!

Mum was always very much against leaving her own home, she did have care at home for several years until it became impossible for her to stay there. Following a stay in the hospital, it was with trepidation that we moved her to Borrage House, and the move went very smoothly; she settled in very quickly.
I am very sad that Mum does not take advantage of all the varied entertainments and facilities offered, but the staff respect her wishes. I cannot speak more highly of her care by the friendly staff at Borrage House.

This care home is amazing! The staff go above and beyond for their residents. They are kind, caring, happy, they’ve got fun activities, they’re great at communicating, lovely rooms, great food, the list goes on. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Since my Mum went into Borrage House, she's been looked
after like part of their family. It has been an absolute relief and delight for my sister and me to have found such a nice place for our Mum who has Alzheimer’s.

My mum has Alzheimer’s and is often anxious. Since we went into lockdown we have only seen mum 3 times socially distancing. However every week my sister and I speak to mum via a portal, which has helped a lot. The staff are so caring not only to mum but to my sister and myself. The staff have and are
continuing to be amazing in caring for our mum. The staff often do things with the residents including singing and even playing cricket.

My Dad has settle din really well at Borrage House. The staff are all extremely friendly, caring and helpful. Dad's room is clean, tidy, bright and spacious. I have visited three times so far (he has been in three weeks) each time he has been entertained, listening to music, dancing and today singing
along with an entertainer (pianist). I am very happy with the service so far.

Our relative has been in the home for over 3 years now, during which time we have visited regularly. Whatever time of day we have arrived we have been greeted warmly by friendly, courteous staff, as indeed has our dog! Our relative is contented and is genuinely appreciative of the ministrations of the

I came to Borrage House in Ripon for respite and I stayed approximately a month and was well cared for, looked after by the staff carers. The food was delicious with a choice of menu. I had a comfortable room in the care home and joined in the activities. The care home has two cosy lounges. I became
friendly with the residents and wanted me to come back and visit them, which I shall be pleased to come back again. Kind regards.

My mother was a resident in Borrage House for almost five years until she passed away in September.
Borrage House is a very well run Care Home with great facilities for its residents. The bedrooms are a good size and are well equipped. The chef does a magnificent job and the food is much appreciated
by everyone. There is also frequent entertainment for the residents which my mother particularly enjoyed.
The best thing of all though about Borrage House is the staff. They are all exceptional and create a happy and caring atmosphere. There are so many calls on their time but they stay calm, kind, sympathetic and so patient. There is always a senior member of staff for residents' relatives to talk to and they are happy to listen and offer advice and help. My mother had dementia and she thought the staff were her family and the staff, in turn, treated her as though she were a member of their family. I will forever be grateful to them for all their care and kindness.

Everything about Borrage House is first-rate. There is a friendly, welcoming atmosphere; staff engage with residents in a way that promotes conversation and dignity. The staff appear to be happy and to genuinely enjoy their work. Rooms are well equipped and all areas of the home are clean, tidy and
well maintained. Numerous pictures, photographs and visual displays provide both a cheerful atmosphere and stimulation. The food provided by the chef is truly exceptional. 5 stars. Staff and management have gone to good lengths to prepare my Mum for respite care.

My mother moved into Borrage House on 16th May 2019. After a long stay in hospital, she has dementia and was finding it very difficult to live back at home.
She says when we visit that all the staff are caring and she is treated with dignity as she has said on more that one occasion Excellent. Her
social worker went to visit her a few weeks ago and she has said it's the best she's ever seen her. It's a pleasure to go and visit her.
