My Mum has been a resident in Briar Dene Residential Care Home for the last fourteen months and I have been so happy with the care she has received. During that time the staff and management team have been absolutely amazing. No request has ever been met with a negative response but only with enthusiasm
and a can-do attitude. Everyone is friendly and the environment is calm and welcoming on every occasion I have telephoned, contacted or visited. My mum has been treated always with respect and love and for this, I am so grateful. Keep up the good work. Just a further note, my mum thinks the meals are fabulous!

The home is not adequate for people with dementia or poor mobility as residents are often left unattended in the lounge and dining room. Mum fell unwitnessed by any careworker whilst in the dining room and sustained life-changing injuries after only 10 days in their care. I arrived one day and the staff
did not even know where Mum was! I found her in the toilet in the dark on her own. I had to clean her up and asked that the staff shower her that evening. It did not happen until the next day. Although the home is new and looks good the service it offers does not match up with hardly any activities for residents. Also, the only home I have come across (and having volunteered with an Alzheimer's charity for years I have seen many) that does not allow residents' or visitors' dogs into their private rooms.

We are sorry that your Mother had a fall, however, this was an unfortunate accident witnessed by a member of staff just metres away who was unable to prevent this happening. As you are aware from the falls that your Mother had whilst in your care, the risk of a fall can be minimised but sadly not eliminated.

Unfortunately, it was clear from day one of your Mother arriving into our residential care home that you were aggrieved at the fact that your siblings had chosen a care home in closer proximity to them than you. Clearly, this vitriol has resulted in you making comments which are quite simply false and defamatory.

Sadly, you have decided to tarnish the good name of a care home that has provided care to the highest standards for nearly 40 years.

Current Review Score: 6.5 (6.514)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.5 (6.514) out of 10 for Briar Dene Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.435 for Briar Dene Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 3.435

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.079 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briar Dene Residential Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.6 = 0.079

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
