My mother went to Gills Top for one week of respite care and spent the next eight years their because she liked it so much. Mum was always very complimentary about the staff and the excellent care she received. Very professional and well managed, she regarded them as friends as well as carers. They
would often come and chat with Mum, share a joke or two and have a laugh. She liked that and also the company of the other residents. Mum was also very complimentary about the food and she looked forward to meal times. I did not hear one complaint in eight years. The home is in a great location and most rooms have splendid views over the dales. I was always made to feel welcome on my visits and it was particularly comforting when I left to know that my mother was in a safe place and being well cared for.

I arrived at Gills Top after being in hospital for 12 weeks. It was sudden and I had been very ill at the time, I have found all the carers helpful and compassionate and caring at Gills Top. As time went on, I personally' analysed' the food after teaching other people about food and nutrition in older
people. The cooking of the food varies because of the dislikes and likes of the residents.
I was falling a lot at first when I came into Gills Top and had no understanding of why, GP looked into this and I was happy with the outcome because I'm not falling anymore.
The programme entertainment is excellent and it varies, Gills Top take us out into the village to have coffee and cake and also to see the calendar girls' musical outings.
We are encouraged to enjoy the garden in the sunshine, it's peaceful.

The staff are great here and always friendly, never too busy to talk or answer questions. They interact well with the residents and visitors. Always cheerful, no matter how busy they are. They always keep you informed of events or appointments to what's happening. A very friendly and warm environment

Gills Top Care Home is friendly, very clean and welcoming and the staff are great. When Mum first arrived, straight from hospital, for respite care, the carers helped get her to her room and immediately asked if she wanted tea and biscuits - which were promptly provided, making Mum feel much better
immediately. The food is freshly prepared and there is always a choice and the cake is excellent! Nothing is too much trouble and Mum is settling in nicely.

Looking around, my first impressions were good. The rooms were lovely, as were the staff. Mum is now settled and very happy at Gills Top.
Mum thinks all the staff are wonderful and only has one complaint and that is the food and the way some good meals are spoilt by the way it is cooked. We have been
told a new chef is being employed, so Mum is looking forward to better meals.
We all have been made to feel very comfortable and welcome.
Could not have found a better home for Mum.

After looking at so many care homes and none of them feeling quite right and some absolutely terrible, my sister and I viewed Gills Top - straight away I was impressed with the place and the enthusiasm shown by the manager who showed us around. My first impression was of a homely atmosphere, everywhere
was clean and tidy, the staff all seemed friendly and talkative and the rooms were a good size. Now, after my mother has been there for a couple of months and settled in there, I have absolutely no need to change my mind from my first impression. My mother is happy there and that is all that matters. Well done to all the staff there for taking such good care of Mum and for constantly making us welcome whenever we visit.

I would highly recommend this hidden gem.
The staff are without exception courteous, efficient and treat my parents with compassion and respect.
Whether you are social or more reclusive, Gills Top Care Home is a good place to be as there is always something going on if you would like to participate.
The
food is great.
The rooms are spotless and well-decorated.
It is nice to leave Gills Top knowing that my parents are in safe and caring hands.

A great choice of care home if you're looking for care for a family member. Very homely atmosphere and can't fault the staff who go above and beyond to help both the resident and the family. They always keep in touch with us if there are any concerns. The home is lovely and clean and the premises are
well looked after. Residents can also have some of their own possessions with them which is helpful in helping them settle in, making it a home from home. Meals can be provided either in the resident's room or in the communal dining room which, if the resident likes their own company, works well. There are lots of activities going on to provide stimulation, even external visitors bringing in something different. But back to the staff. My mum can sometimes display quite challenging behaviour but everyone is patient and kind and do their best to accommodate all situations. We are very pleased with the care provided and wouldn't hesitate in recommending Gills Top to anyone.

My nana needed some care in September 2022. The home manager and home administrator came to our home and undertook a really in-depth assessment of my Grandma and her needs. All the staff at Gills top are so kind and compassionate. My Grandma found the transition very difficult. The staff are so very
understanding. I visit every day and Gills top is always clean, friendly and welcoming to me, my husband and our labrador Jess!

Having read the positive reviews from others re Gills Top I have to agree that I feel very much the same especially with reference to the vibe you receive there - a very homely environment and the helpfulness and kindness of the staff is so important when you're trusting your family to their care.
The
premises are lovely and clean. Have had great feedback regarding the food. Would definitely recommend Gills Top.

It's always a worry when you place a beloved parent/husband in respite care for the first time. We knew we had found a gem from our first dealings with Gills Top staff, who have been nothing but kind and supportive. We now wouldn't put Dad anywhere else. He always really enjoys his respite holidays
and we feel secure in the knowledge that he's in good hands.

My dad was in Gills Top. My dad was happy at Gills Top, myself and my sister were happy with Dad's care. Thank you. Highly recommend Gills Top to anybody. Gills Top is very friendly, caring and treat everybody with respect. Gills Top is a lovely place to live.

Whilst only the briefest of time in Gills Top collecting my friend for our trip to the village, I found the staff to be friendly, courteous and caring. My friend took me to her room which was lovely - bright, airy and cheerful.

Knowing we needed to start the care home ‘journey’ by booking my mum in for two nights’ respite care and actually doing it were two very different things in my mind. However, with the help of the wonderful staff at Gills Top, in the end, it was all much easier than I had anticipated. From our very first
visit, it was clear Gills Top sets the highest of standards in the homeliest of ways. It exudes warmth and kindness; there is a calmness that is instantly reassuring. On picking up my mum at the end of her mini-break it was very apparent that she had been extremely happy and settled at Gills Top and had made the most of her stay, joining in the many and varied activities, enjoying the lovely garden and most certainly savouring the food! Having interacted with the fantastic Gills Top team in the run-up to Mum’s stay, we had already known she was in very safe, amazingly patient and extremely caring hands, but witnessing the hugs as we left Gills Top sealed it for me - she'll be back!

My aunt has been well cared for for some years at Gills Top. The staff are always friendly, well organised and create a home from home atmosphere. The activities, good food, Covid-19 compliance and general health care of the residents is always paramount. The staff are always happy to go the extra
mile and that is such a bonus for us. The residents always seem happy when we visit and that speaks volumes.
I would highly recommend Gill Top.

Whilst I have not been allowed access to the main part of the home during the pandemic, the ensuite accommodation enjoyed by my mother is more than adequate. What is most striking is the friendliness and devotion to my mother of the staff. I cannot speak too highly of them. The care and concern of the
staff are excellent. My only negative comment is the answerphone message which refers to a ring back, then this doesn't happen, which is understandable but perhaps the answerphone message should be amended.

My father spent the last two years of his life in Gills Top and I have no hesitation in recommending them. I never felt that it was anything but absolutely the right place for him. Alzheimer's meant that he gradually lost the ability to live at home alone, and eventually ended up in hospital with a
broken hip after a fall. I visited a lot of care homes around the area, but the "vibe" of Gills Top immediately felt right to me, and the care he received from the brilliant staff proved me correct in that gut feeling. He was well looked after and fed, and while he wasn't a great one for activities, there was certainly lots of opportunity for interaction, and he was occasionally persuaded out for things like canal boat trips and fish & chips. The beautiful and comparatively remote rural location also means that staff tend to be quite long-term, so there isn't a constant turnover of new faces which would be confusing for someone with dementia. Great place, great, caring people.
