The Granby offers elegance and style and is a place in which residents feel pampered and cared for. The home provides residential, nursing, and respite care.

The Granby has undergone a full refurbishment, the modernised home includes a welcoming reception area, lounge and bar area and stunning dining room. All rooms have been tastefully redecorated in a number of elegant themes. In addition to this, the home also has a café, wellbeing suite and a luxurious cinema that residents can enjoy.

The lounge at The Granby is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea and socialise as it looks out across the famous common, The Stray.

There is a superb collection of reading material including books, magazines and papers in the decadent library; now called Lord Byron’s library as this is where the famous bard wrote some of his literary works.

Residents can be treated to a new hairstyle in the hairdressing salon or even relaxing aromatherapy or reflexology sessions in the privacy of their own rooms.

There are attractive grounds in which to relax or take gentle exercise. For the more adventurous there is a seven-seater minibus equipped for wheelchair access which means residents can enjoy excursions both into Harrogate town centre and further afield. A range of recreational activities take place in the beautifully restored and original Crystal Ballroom.

The standard of accommodation and care afforded at The Granby is second to none, with every resident being actively encouraged to retain their independence in order that they lead as full a life as possible.

We used the Granby for respite care for my mother. The staff were welcoming and friendly and throughout the duration of the stay, nothing was too much trouble. Her bed room was bright/ warm comfortable and spotlessly clean. Food was good and served either in her room or dining room. My mother had no
complaints and ate very well during her stay. We especially loved the coffee shop where residents and family could go and sit and enjoy free drinks and cakes. A lovely space to sit and relax and look out over the Stray.
There are lots of areas to be able to go and relax either quietly on your own should you want to read the papers or books or if you wish company, the main lounge in the reception area is a great meeting place for residents. There were plenty of activities arranged and my mother joined in most of them, she especially enjoyed the cinema which is on site.
I was able to go away safe in the knowledge that my mother was being well cared for.

Due to a family emergency my Mum stayed at the Granby for 3 weeks for respite care. I found the home to be clean, welcoming and there were plenty of activities for the residents to participate in if they so wished. The meals were healthy and varied and residents could eat in their rooms if they wished
or in the communal dining room. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

As the family of a resident, we’ve raised concerns regarding checks of my mother’s hearing aids on many occasions, over a period of time now spanning years. The management of the home has consistently failed to address these concerns, meaning my mum is often left unable to hear and effectively left
isolated within a bubble unable to communicate. A complaint has also been raised with Brighterkind regarding this and other issues and sadly this also failed to address the issue.


This issue has caused us a great deal of upset and it is incredibly frustrating and upsetting to be continually ignored in this matter. Short of moving Mum elsewhere (which would be hugely upsetting for her in part due to her Parkinsons) we do not know how to get Brighterkind to listen to and address our concerns.

Although this has been working very smoothly, there was one day where things didn’t quite work to the high standard we set for our residents.

The Granby has benefited from a new management team, who are dedicated to the delivery of high care and service standards, so naturally they are really upset and sorry that there was an issue with your mother’s hearing aids on this occasion.

The Granby is outstanding in many respects and is much superior to any of the many homes I visited looking for care. The building is fantastic, but the most important thing is the quality of the staff and management. The customer relations assistant and care home manager are brilliant. The staff are

On joining a resident at the home for a meal I was offered the soup, main dish and dessert.

After the sad loss of my father and Mum needing additional care as we were due to go on holiday we decided to give us all some respite care and chose the Granby as its reputation was so good. And it truly did live up to its name - so good that we have booked Mum in again for another week so we can visit
our Grandchildren who live in London. She said she thoroughly enjoyed it and the food and daily activities were not to be missed! Thank you to all the staff, it really is a home from home.

My father thoroughly enjoyed his respite care at The Granby, he felt that all the staff were very helpful and were there for him when he needed them.
The food was great and with plenty of activities to keep him occupied.
He would certainly go in again without any hesitation. I would really appreciate
it if he could go in for a days respite care occasionally, it would help me and I feel keep him in contact with other residents at The Granby.

I have an independent flat in an adjoining wing. On a daily basis, I go into Granby Court and have been able to assess just how good Granby Court is.
I eat lunch with the residents in the beautiful and upmarket restaurant. The food is excellent.
They have 3 full-time Chef's, very experienced.
The
home also has 3 Activity Coordinators so the residents have a full program of activities and do not get bored. The Granby is the only care home I know that has its own Cinema, Residents use it a number of times each week.
The management team here is headed by a manager and all the leaders have a good working relationship with her.
I personally have viewed respect being shown to all residents. All personnel show a genuine interest and understanding of each resident.
Meals can either be taken in the resident's room or the restaurant.
This home also has a free Cafe where relatives and there loved ones can go for a drink and a snack.
I have not ever witnessed a care home of this quality before.

My father in law was a resident of The Granby for 2 days. The assessment prior to admission did not seem to identify his needs, likes, dislikes or equipment he required to keep him safe. He fell out of bed twice on the first night. We expected a much better standard of care from a nursing home. A
formal letter of complaint has been submitted to the Manager.

The staff were welcoming and interested. The surroundings and facilities were delightful.


Unfortunately, as a family, we underestimated the level of support my father would need, and consequently, we shortened his visit to The Granby. This was in no way due to shortcomings in the arrangements

we had made with staff before my father became resident. Therefore would be happy to recommend The Granby to someone with similar requirements for respite care.

My mother came into the nursing home for respite care. We had looked around a couple of other nursing homes but when we saw The Granby it was very apparent that the ambience and facilities were far superior to other places.
We felt that she received a warm welcome and were pleased with the care that
she received.
As a family, we would be very happy for her to return if the need should arise in the future.

I cannot recommend The Granby highly enough, our wonderful mum who was well known to staff was a real character, she sadly passed away on the 19th January but her few months spent in The Granby were very special.


We cannot commend the staff highly enough they are just brilliant, always caring, sharing

a laugh with mum and being very patient as mum had mild dementia.


They made her last 2 weeks very comfortable and you could tell they cared for mum and us family as we were also looked after with their support.


We as a family will always be eternally grateful for all they did, the manager and the team are just wonderful.


We miss our mum terribly but we rest knowing that she had the best care not only from us but particularly from the staff that she adored


This place is not like a normal care home but more like a 5-star hotel, it's just beautiful


Highly recommended.

Visited for respite. The section I was resident in is under refurbishment. The work and design is to a very high standard, worthy of the best hotels. Work in progress gave some inconvenience but the tradesmen were polite, considerate and helpful. The new lift will be a great improvement and the ballroom
"should be listed" and the sprung floor preserved. My room was comfortable and quiet with shower room, good adjustable bed and TV. Maintenance staff were helpful.


Service was at the end of a button with a quick response. Heating was adequate but needed controls. Reception rooms were of a high standard, with beverages served, and also the use of a snack bar. Food was of acceptable quality but there was a limited menu for residents who are not mobile and had eating problems, therefore not always to my requirements. I did not require medical assistance, however, it was comforting to know it was available. The respite visit helped my recovery, however I am fitter than many of the residents.

We are very grateful that a room was provided at short notice to help out in an emergency. The building is very elegant, well maintained and is being upgraded.
Once the upgrade is complete there will be a larger lift, which will be a great help for users in wheelchairs.
The staff are friendly and
seem professional, although not always as proactive as they could be in offering help.
This resident spent more time in her room than she wanted, apparently because staff were not always available to help her to access the public rooms.

My mother was in The Granby for about 3 years. Throughout her stay, the staff always showed a very high level of care. The food was good, the home was clean and bright with attractive pictures on the wall and generally gave the impression of a good hotel rather than a care home. There seemed to be a
wide range of activities available although my mother wasn't interested. There were a few faults, mainly the home's inability to return the resident's own clothes to them after laundering, but I can't speak highly enough of the staff. My mother was bedridden for her last 6 months but never developed a bed sore and was always kept comfortable. The staff never gave the impression of anything being too much trouble. I have heard so many stories of homes where residents were neglected in some way, even expensive homes, but I never experienced this at The Granby and could not recommend it more.

Ruby graduated with a BS in Nursing Degree in 2000. She began as a nurse in United Arab Emirates working in the private medical team for the president. In 2004, she returned to Lebanon as a nurse in the accident and emergency department before becoming Deputy Nurse Manager and being trained in advanced nursing diagnostics. In 2009, she got a job with one of the best Ophthalmology surgeons in Lebanon. She managed three clinics as well as assisting in surgeries, and diagnostic procedures. In 2017, she obtained a CELTA, which enabled her to work as a school nurse and an English teacher before she moved to the UK.


Ruby is a proud mother of two girls and enjoys reading, studying languages and acapella choir singing in her spare time.
